For anyone who missed some, or all, of the treat that RTE delivered over the past two nights, and whose location denies them the use of the RTE iPlayer, there’s this:
I’m going to get teary eyed again about the Conneely brothers, the song has the same effect on me as does Lovely Young One. But, on a brighter note, wasn’t it fab to see the real Whacker Humphries?! So much to think about, so many memories … xx

Thanks Helen…your post has helped many to view the Journey
Great to read the positive reviews of the Journey. Sounds like the guys did you justice – always a wee worry that they won’t, but sounds like they captured you and your work well. Hoping to catch it soon. Looking forward to the CD release too – exciting times. Hope I catch you along the way before too long. Keep well and mind yourself.
I just loved the documentary. It was so incredibly sincere and moving and it was special to see you side by side with those who are clearly so grateful and touched that you took up their cause or their experience or their pain in song. The clip of you standing by the ocean singing The Two Conneelys was one of those rare moments. Well done to all involved in opening up this ‘backroom’ insight, the DVD will one to treasure. x

Mark McLoughlin and all his crew did a great job…over 5 months they blended in with our crew and got on with their job…from 40 hours of footage Mark & Co edited it down to 2 hours….they encountered quite a few fences and hoops before transmission…it was a great experience working with them….. Inis Maan was very special, so too Granard, Pollardstown, Yellow Furze,…..Thanks for the feedback
Hi Christy,
We missed you this year in London but were lucky enough to bring our kids to see you at the Southbank 2 years ago; your music enriches our lives and brightens our days. We listen to songs over and over and find new humour and depth in them every time. My 5 year old son says ‘your music makes my heart beat’. My 7 year old daughter loves your music so much it makes her the happiest in the world. So, thanks! And we hope to see you again live soon! Our favourite at the moment: Joxer goes to Stuttgart!

Greetings to all our good listeners across the water….just had a great trip”over”…back again in July and October….Joxer still jousting
Hi Christy,
Many of us know ‘The January Man’ song. For June,it refers to ‘the man inside the man’.It could now be re written,to include those words for April, after the excellent ‘Journey’ films..They captured the different facets of you as an artist and as a man.Fair play to you for being so open,to Mark McLoughlin et al ,for deft touches and especially to your on screen colleagues.Very likely, not easy for some at times.
Powerful viewing and I hope the ‘encore’ will be some extras/outakes on the DVD.
Thanks for the amazing ‘Journey’..so far….
Dave

Watched both episodes of the show tonight Christy, a great piece of work, many congrats. Looking forward to seeing you along the road and before that to seeing my fellow Corkman, John Spillane, and the bould Lar on his new venture on the 23rd in the Punchbowl.
Lar is one of life’s gentlemen and I hope as many people as can make it turn up on the night, for him, and for a blast of songs from a man who makes me proud to be from this great city of Cork.

Really enjoyed the 2 programmes, the best I’ve seen on telly in a long, long time, some of the stories and songs would bring a tear to the eye of even the hardest man.
Can’t wait to listen to you Wednesday evening in Vicar St, if the form takes you, would you mind singing beeswing for my girlfriend Caitríona; She’s mad about the song.
Fair play to Mick Blake for writing a fantastic song too,my first time to hear it.
Keep her lit, and all the best.

Location: Belmullet, via London, Belgium & a few other places, where the pick was swung...
I have a song that I’d like to get to Christy. It was written 40 years ago, when I was a young man, in a ‘bedsit’ in Hammersmith. I was young, hungry, cold and alone. I got out, I got ‘home’…I got lucky!
Why did it take me 40 years to get around to this? I’m not sure. Maybe it’s because three of my four sons have gone? Maybe it might help them to know that I understand, how insidiously, loneliness can attack. Maybe i wish that someone else had let me know, that i wasn’t the ONLY one…I don’t know.
Anyway thats the story and Christy’s tour through the past, on TV, over the last couple of nights, moved me. If anyone can help with that, I’d be grateful.
Thanks Christy, thanks folks.

Hi Christy, hope your good. Great to see the UK tour went well, some great clips, photos and articles covering the events across there on the mainland. Just finished watching the much talked about and long awaited “Journey” on RTE 1.Difficult to find the words that could do justice this very fine piece of film. Congratulations to Mark McLoughlin and all involved in the production. I had been experiencing a certain nervousness (butterflies) before the programme aired but that anxiety was unnecessary and somewhat misplaced …brilliant, brilliant stuff…..fair to say Mark captured you in a way that you had probably not been captured before, that of course too was down to your openness, honesty and humility, Thank You. It was a real Rollercoaster of a “Journey” which spanned the decades..I feel much older tonight as a result but also much more content …LOL ! It has and continues to be an immense privilege to share the journey with you, and I’m told our best days are yet to come. Had a choice to make this week between a European night at Anfieild on Thursday or a Christy gig at Vicar Street …tough call but glad to report that I will be bringing the nephew along to Dublin for his first CM gig…The “Journey” continues and long may it do so …see you Thursday then and thanks again Christy….Love & Respect Always Martin Mac

Dear Christy.
I have been watching the Rte1 online for two nights now regarding The journey… I must say I am so impressed about your commitment and the way you make every song every time sound as exactly this song is the most important ever made. I have attended some of your gigs and every time I have enjoyed every song and been impressed. Thank you for enlightening me into the history of Ireland and thank you for making me and many other people think about our and others lives. Thank you Christy .. keep on going strong!
