Wednesday at Vicar Street will be mighty, I’m sure. Also, the date when Lisa O’Neill’s ‘Drawing from the well’ hits cyberspace via www, itma.ie the preview is enticing. I’m really looking forward to the whole feature
Have a good day.

The Irish Traditional Music Archive is on Merrion Square, Dublin.
It is close to the heart of our Music and Song. Housed in a sturdy building and situated on our most beautiful Square . There it is carefully (and lovingly ) curated and maintained by a team dedicated to the preservation of our rich culture. In recent years they have presented us with a series called “Drawing from The Well” as mentioned above by Dave, (our diligent Manchester Correspondent.) This is a very varied broadcast and has already given us many gems. I look forward to hearing Lisa’s story.
Dear Christy, just in the door for a quick mug of tea before sleep. Manchester’s Deaf Institute tonight to hear David Keenan.
Outstanding…..is the only word necessary or appropriate.
He finished with a 400 year old irish song , voice only, sung in Irish called i think ‘the rock’.
Back to see him next week in Glasgow and cannot wait.
Outstanding

good to hear that David is blazing his trail and gaining new listeners
Hi Christy
Contingent from the Yellow Furze heading up to Vicar St on Wednesday night, including a Conor Brennan (My son) maybe you would give a blast of The Honda Fifty song,,, looking forward to the show, and loving the new album
Listened to couple different records that you’ve recorded of “encore”. I like the version from the where I come from album in 2013 best so I’m going to have a go at writing that one on paper. I went to see you play around that time or maybe it was shortly after that in the waterfront, Belfast. Me and mate of mine ran into Martín O’connor that day and asked him wheres Christy haha young boys at the time lol
Hello Christy,
When I was twelve there was a machine in the science lab at school that made the noises of different sound waves and showed them on a screen. The si e wave of a pure voice, the square wave of a clarinet pudding away, the sawtooth wave. Didn’t realise this was the Reed on the uilleann pipes. Lots of singers seem to go for this one too. We talked about similar things in the Reed making workshop at the pipes day.
Anywat, what you said about mixing music visually, that’s a whole different universe. I realise this won’t be most people’s cup of tea, maybe even not yours? But I’d love to hear more.
Just thinking my way through the Bord da Mona man and chuckling about how God gives him one instruction and it was all downhill from there. Seemed like quite an easy one too.

For the past 25 years Sound Engineers and Album Producers record and mix music with their eyes glued upon screens…. I prefer to sit back and listen before making decisions….visuals certainly simplify the editing process…but we still gotta listen carefully before signing off on a final mix…
Very likely, me being an IT Luddite etc, but I’d appreciate a pointer to the website location of the new album sleevenotes, please.
Have a good day, sorting the menu for Vicar Street…lucky punters await…

Sorry for delay….the sleeve notes were ready to go…until our site technician fell ill with the dreaded…hopefully normal service will soon resume…please bear with us
Terrific post by Dietmar… information about Stolpersteine, songs like ‘December 1942’ and the experiences of Tomi Reichental are vital to education about The Holocaust and prevention of further horrors.
‘Yellow Triangle’ set the music bar high. Your hard work on Ricky Lynch’s ‘December 1942′ follows on… hopefully, many here will watch your interview on RTE player/ Late Late Show – the interaction with Tomi Reichental shows the best of humanity and is genuinely heartwarming.
Great to hear back from you, Christy. I grew up in the North East and yet you probably know it better, especially the Tyneside scene. I absolutely love the Doonans and as for Charlie Hurley, what a player and what a man. I got talking once to a black cab driver in Belfast and he said he supported Rangers, Linfield and Sunderland. Why Sunderland, I asked. ‘Because of Charlie Hurley’. I could never get my head around that
Christy's reply
I knew the Tyne & Wear &Tees & Humber Folk scenes intimately ….I served my time in those Riverside regions…met the finest of folk as I served my apprenticeship between 1966 & 1972
Dear Christy, what an album! Got it yesterday as an early birthday present from my good friend Peter with whom I attended quite a few of your shows. The sound, the songs, the arrangement – makes me think what a great job all of them did: the writers, the musicians, the ‘technicians’. A huge thanks to all! And your voice outstanding.
I’m mesmerized again by “December 1942”. This piece goes under my skin, being aware of my country’s history, my forefathers’ involvement (albeit not actively, but what difference does it make?), our own responsibility. Just weeks ago, we laid the last Stolpersteine in our town for the Jewish victims of the Nazi terror, ejected or deported and murdered though they had been “villagers” for generations – descendants of the surviving Jewish family members from that time came to the ceremony. What happened during their visit was a blessing. Together we remembered, together we cried, embracing each other realizing that together we stand against hatred in a world – again – turning upside down… A world that needs voices like yours, too.
Looking forward to early January in Vicar St, with my friend Peter again.
Is it right of left for Gibraltar? He loves St. Brendan’s Voyage…:)
Thanks so much, Dietmar

Thank you Dietmar….I really appreciate your post…I will send it to Ricky Lynch…when I set up this platform it was to create a forum that we might share about the songs….
what night will You & Peter come to Vicar St ?
Dear Christy
What a week ! a so well-deserved life time achievement award, a brand new album and another invitation for The Late Late show. We can watch the latter on the player in Belgium as well. I really enjoyed. Even with such a distance, I felt the emotions very well you seeing December 1942 for Tomi. I rehearsed the album three times and I like the song very much as also Zozimus & Zimmerman, Johnyboy and Clock winds down
Congratulations with the new album !
Keep up the good work and good luck in Vicar Street.

Great to see live shows, even awards if you don’t mind umpire…
I will read up on posts – they warm the cockles they do…
Hope you’re all well & keeping on keeping on like a bird that flew…

Could anyone send me the lyrics for the song, ‘if I get an encore (wild colonial boy)’, version on the ‘where I come from album 2013..
I’ve learned many the song with pen and paper…spinning vinyl/cassette/cd , finger poised on the pause button
you’ve reminded me that the lyric section here needs updating….
the song you mention has had many re-writes over the years…
