caught Waylon once…night off in London, heard him in The Hammersmith Odeon about 35 years ago…bought 2 cassettes and played them in the Van for years after…I think I covered one of his songs in The Box Set 1964-2004
Following on from ‘Rory’s 10 minutes’ (surely, a BBC Radio 4 title…) – thought I’d pick a favourite artist’s song at random and see where it leads… just tried it and there’s enough time to make a cuppa… Dylan ‘ No more auction block’, followed by the same song by Paul Robeson… well set up for the afternoon now…
Great seeing the list of gigs and the red “Sold Out” beside them. Good reports from the couple that have already been. Hopefully the list will grow and our confidence will return. Great that you continued to be fairly creative through the pandemic – heard a few performers say they just could not do anything during that time and that must have been hard for them. It takes different vibes to feed different artists and that’s what makes it special i suppose. Keep on singing anyway and best wishes to all of the crew.
Lovely thoughts from Rory. Here’s a few of mine.
If I had 10 minutes to do anything I’d
Sing Musgrave to a group of people who really wanted to hear it
Listen to my dead grandmother tell stories
Float in a hot air balloon at dusk and watch the lights in the houses come on
Feel the heat of a fire outdoors while the flames lick the sky
Breath air next to a high waterfall, hardraw force in Cumbria looks like it has fairies at the bottom of it
Stroke my cats head
Feel the swirling cauldron of vicar street once more
Its good to dream. As it is, I feel like I’ve got flu. Tested negative for covid yesterday.
Hi Christy,
If you had ten minutes to do someting with, anything , what would you choose?
I reminded myself tonight that Me and the Rose is a hugely entertaining ten minutes, it might take me ten minutes to enjoy a strong cup of black tea and a slice of Brack, if i was so inclined perhaos a decent cigar might float someone’s boat or a chapter of a good book….
but for me i’d slap on the Red disc from the box set and head straight for the Hamburg Medley.
Surely it must have been the most memorable of sets for anyone who witnessed it, as i lie here in the dark listening , i marvel at it’s beauty , uniqueness and it’s messages.
Roll on ‘The Tractor and the Blackbird.’

” to do something with anything” you say..but then you appear to limit those precious 10 minutes to matters of work..I need a more precise guideline before I decide how I might spend my last 10 minutes…..or is it any 10 minutes
Well Christy, making up for lost time on the concert front over here; I’ve already got tickets to see Squeeze, Madness, Andy and Donals band, Usher Island, and Saving Grace (Robert Plants new band) in December & the Eagles next June, Just need a Christy Moore ticket to complete the collection, the music might be keeping the spirits high but it’s definitely keeping my bank balance low. but money well spent.

What a diverse line up you have there John…hope you enjoy every morsel that comes your way
Hope all is well .. was a great gig the other night in gorey . Great to hear some of the new songs amd the old favourites I nearly called the contender. Was a lovely venue and very well ran gig by all the staff .. looking forward to carlow roll on ..

Greatly looking forward to the new LP – and hoping the Zozimus/Zimmerman waves will ripple into the world of those who pick up on all things Dylan…it’ll be great to add to debate…’Immigrant’ too…I’m really looking forward to that – such a brilliant song and always done so well, in whatever format you sing it.
Ever heard Jakob Dylan (aka son of Bob)? I really like his approach – Wallflowers being a canny bunch, but I’ve spent a few recent miles with the car CD playing 2008’s ‘seeing things’ – a really excellent LP in every way.
Hello Christy,
Just thinking about the freedom of a solo stage and what you said about new songs. Also about what you said ages ago about when is the time to do the non sugar coated stuff.
That sound check of rocky road to dublin on life on the road is a style of thing that jumped straight off the screen at me. Love it.
I once went to a harp duo concert at the Bridgewater Hall. The music was challenging. The duo spent some time explaining what they were doing and why. One piece was about a fight between two scorpions. At one point they were hitting the harp strings with rulers.
The audience did manage to buy into it. Maybe the explaining helped.
Hi Christy, watched a programme earlier on TG4 about Lilywhite Dermot Early, what a lovely man and such a talented footballer. I remember you saying that you sang for the team on many occasions. Just wondering what song you kicked off with.
Christy's reply
I’ve only sung for the Kildare Senior Squad on one occasion (before they lost a Leinster Final)….The Intermediate Women’s Squad (shortly before they won an All- Ireland)…. “Curragh of Kildare” on both occasions
Dear Christy,
Just back in from the play Fighting the Enemy by The Firebrand company supported by us at the Bill McLaren Foundation.
Its a play about Bill McLaren’s time in the TB hospital, the war and the parrallel connection with George Orwell.
During the play the 3 person cast sang Hamish Henderson’s ballad of the D-Day Dodgers.
What a hattrick of heroes McLaren, Orwell and Henderson.
I suspect that all 3 are in the top twenty list of many of us , but it’s extra special for us in Hawick because of The Man that Oo Ca’ Bill.
Keep an eye out for it as sufficient funds were raised to film it for streaming.
Cheers
Rory
Hello Christy,
There were a dozen pipers at the uilleann pipes day in Manchester yesterday. Lots of things going on including a reed making workshop. I saw and heard lots of different pipes and pipers. Here’s a snippet of the session that sprang up in the afternoon when half a dozen pipers got together with a, fiddle. https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=10165384934690136&id=847680135

Thank you for dedicating the beautiful Gortatagort to our good friend Traudel last night in Gorey, dear Christy. It was a song she loved so much. Her sudden passing without warning was a huge shock for Uwe and me, particularly since we had just spent a happy holiday week together in Hamburg. Life is a fragile good that should not be taken for granted … It will take time to comprehend that she is no longer around. Your music was the basis of our friendship and over the years we have met many times here in Germany or around your gigs in Ireland. Traudel was such a generous and warm person, we will miss her deeply. Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to Horst and we hope he will find some comfort in listening to your songs.
Christy's reply
Sending condolences to You and Uwe….We here have lost a dear friend….we did not meet Traudel very often but we all felt a special connection with the beautiful lady that she was….You have lost a very close and dear friend…Myself and all the team loved seeing Traudel and Horst when they showed up for a gig…they usually had front row seats and I would see them and sense their presence as I sang…its a great privilige for any singer to have such devoted listeners….I first encountered Traudel over 30 years ago at a German Concert…it was in an old art house cinema…and I recieved a perfect carrot cake which helped sustain me for the remainder of that German Tour….I will think of Traudel every time I sing Folk Tale or Gortatagort
hey Christy,
Purple shirts?
that is a bit of a travesty, i assume the marketing team felt that rather than have the green clash with the red and white hoops, the sales needed boosted on the old stock.
What next, Scotland in terracotta against new zealand in pastel salmon?
Back to the old black and white goggle box for me.
Rory
ps maybe an idea for colouring of the next box set
Jings christy, no gouging in those scrums, dont be sharpening the 3 inch studs and no up and unders but plenty smelling salts and embrocation.
Have booked my seats for ireland v scotland, i think it will be the grand slam decider in march….ish.
Tractors and blackbirds what a fab idea. A 2nd boxset of outtakes, stories, half finisheds, obscure and crackly recordings would sell out like hotcakes.
Connor would be wearing the marigolds, he is no match for mrs brown i’d say.
We survived the flood but only just , we are 45 miles from the sea but the coastguard was here!
We collected a pair of each of the lesser spotted corbyns, a couple of gretas, two david keenans, a brace of attenboroughs, a duo of colin keanes and a duet of margaret barrys but the door to the hawick ark shut before two mile borris ( j) could get in.
Enjoy the drop kick

Its called Scorpion tales iii, tale of Orion.
All on two harps with a few other bits and pieces to get different noises out of them, the rulers etc…
Rebecca

When Paul Robeson goes low everything shakes
Mr Liverpool, I wondered who’d be first. Just when I was trying so hard to behave myself too.
My final 10 minutes, well I know the first thing I’d do, just a matter of what to spend the final 9 minutes doing.(probably fall asleep). zzzzzzzz
