Christie..I have been dying to see you live for years but due to always being on the road I have always been in some other country, or you gigs sold out before I got wind of them. saw you last night in Gorey..amazing ..my wife got me tickets for my birthday. It was so good to hear some of those songs and hear you doing one from a local writer. I realize you must get hundreds of tunes sent but I have been carving out. a living writing and would love to get some to you if that was possible….just not sure how to do that. Either way such a great show and you are truly one of the artists on my ‘bucket list’..wonderful stuff.
International pipes day today and we’re somewhere in Manchester (no idea where} all ready for a piping thing that’s going to last all day looking forward to hearing lots of pipers, some maybe together?
I like the way Japan play too. Such heart and stubbornness.
Continuing the Tyrrell links…I’ve been led to the lockdown concerts by father (in Ireland) and daughter,Aine in Australia…
wonderful chemistry and I think many readers here will appreciate Aine’s work via content and videos at http://www.ainetyrrell.com – very relevant to many COP26 discussions as well. D

greetings to Suffragette City…..all red and blue today
RIP Sean Tyrrell. Just read the sad news and being reminded of the quality of his music and collaborations – Druid theatre/ Francis Ledwidge based pieces amongst others.
Once again, I’m impressed by a tribute from President Higgins – it’s a universe away from anything similar here, sadly.
Have a good day.

Sean Tyrrell was a long time Troubadour….he ploughed a straight furrow with his distinctive voice, repertoire and accompaniment….Paddy Doherty and I spoke long last night about a session Sean played in Lisdoonvarna with Wally Page and Johnny Mulhearn…it was pure magic…a golden memory of sweet music that still resounds…..may he rest in peace
Hi Christy, i see the chat about poor Traudel, such a shame.
I have banged on before about Folk Tale from the box set.
It is beautifully raw, with only a tractor and a blackbird for accompaniment.
Love is a big word but i love that version.
To be frank its often the quirkiness of parts that makes the Box Set the only thing to save from the sinking ship.
Regards
Rory

Good man Rory…
it does my heart good when I read of your visits back into
“The Box Set 1964-2004”
….perhaps its time for another retro bundle of outakes..but the world has changed since 2004….
you got me thinking’,that would be a good title…
“Tractors & Blackbirds”
Have you filled your Ark yet?..you enquired about including an Irish couple on board your barque…might I suggest Conor McGregor & Mrs Brown….
ps we are girding loins for todays tussle at Lansdowne Road with the Kamikaze Pilots….I love their style of Rugby (except when they are beating us)…..I’m heading in their shortly..Andy Farrell rand me this morning and asked me to bring my boots…Tadhg Furlong got a bad pint last night and his nose is out of joint…I’m stretching myself here at the moment in case I’m called upon
Andy’s burning times interpretation is what stopped me listening to the song when I first heard it. It was only on forcing myself to dive in this morning that the other stuff appeared.
Both are there for me right now.

the Earth is a witch,
and we still burn her,
stripping her down with mining and the poison of our wars.

a teacher and a Mother,
a weaver of a web of light that keeps us all alive.
She gives us the wisdom to see through the chaos,
She gives us the courage… it is our will to survive….( Charlie Murphy)
After yesterday’s sad news, I spent a good chunk of time trawling youtube for versions of ‘Folk Tale’ and reading online info… I was led to an interview/ facts about Paula Meehan – the poet/author – It was a fulfilling journey…
Late in the day, I remembered the box set version (fantastic rawness to it) and read the sleeve notes…wise words, Christy – thanks.
All the best for today/the gig.

its coming back..early dawn in Passage Co Waterford….working with Nigel Rolfe in his garden high above the estuary….surrounded by birdsong until the milk lorry groaned up the hill road
I’m fairly sure that version of Folk Tale is taken from the box set recording….. and set to the pictures….. it’s live and raw…. I like it. Then there is the studio recording on the Folk Tale CD.
Hello Christy,
I’ve been listening to that recording of folk tale too. I’ve heard it a couple of times before but never really let it get in to me. So I listened properly today.
Here’s what I got, for what it’s worth.
I like the intimacy and immediacy of the recording. It feels like we’re sitting together in a forest telling stories.
So there’s a reality about it that hasn’t been polished out. The moldy has an improvised feel about it that snakes round the words beautifully
It needs ro be given a lot of space, doesn’t it. To let all the different kinds, of love flow.
Having said all that, after listening to you the other night, I think there is another version that would come out now. I’d very much like to hear it..
Rebecca

it is worth a lot…..not many share what they find below the surface….not many delve in deep…nor did I myself for many decades…I was content to sing what I liked , to keep it simple….but as time passed I began to notice complexities..be they real or imagined….
Last night I was singing “Folk Tale” with my son Andy….I learned that his interpretation is totally different to mine….he likens it to the spirit of “Burning Times”
Hi Christy,
It’s so sad to hear the news of Traudel, I too always enjoyed her posts.
Although I am unlikely to meet many fellow contributors to your guestbook we all share in the love of your music/concerts and all it entails, we’re like-minded people, so it feels like the loss of a friend. Sincere sympathy and regards to her family. Pam
My sympathies to all of Traudels family and friends.
Very sad time for you all.
When my dad passed away she sent us a lovely thoughtful sympathy note .It is still on the mantel.Just took it down and reread it.
Very sorry to hear of her passing on.

Shocked to hear of the passing of Traudel and deepest sympathy to Horst. I always found Traudel to be wonderful company and, as you say Christy, her confectionary skills were magnificent. It is more than the red fuschia that weeps today. May the sod rest lightly upon her. 🙁
A day of remembering and reflexion about the gift of life. Traudel in our hearts and thoughts. Deep sympathy to Horst

we’ve been gathered together here by the magnetism of music & song….across the years our small community has developed, even though we seldom,( if ever,) meet…. friendships and factions have evolved, some visit fleetingly only to disappear again…others remain constant……we have lost a dear friend, Horst has lost his beloved….
I’ve been singing Folk Tale here and remembering Traudel
“A young man fell in love with truth
and searching the wide world for her
he found her in a small house
in a clearing in the Forest”…….(Paula Meehan)
It is indeed very sad news to hear that Traudel has passed RIP. Herself and Horst were very faithful followers of your music and tours Christy. I think they have both been coming to Ireland for nearly 40 years and I know that she was sad not to be able to travel over the last 2 years. They loved Beara and stayed in the same house there for years, when the owner of the house died about 4 years ago that the family held off the funeral until Traudel and Horst could travel from Germany, did they become more Irish than the Irish ourselves ? They developed many great friendships through the gigs and I know that Petra and Uwe in Hamburg will miss them too, they met only a few weeks ago. I will miss her regular company and correspondence. I ‘m thinking of Horst now in this lonesome time after such a shock. Comhbron o chroi freisin. Beir bua agus beannacht. H
