As so often, your music and recall of people and places leads to great diversions. I’d never thought about ‘Dr Bill’, but having riffed about him with Rory/reading your account – I’m aware of a very colourful character RIP – and he has a wikipedia entry…
Great that you’re engrossed in Atkin world and hopefully, enjoying the promos. Also, ahead of the curve in the style department -. Bob’s following your lead by re releasing some early LPs on white vinyl!
Have a good day
Dave

Me and Bob go way back..all the way to 1967…but I doubt that he’s aware of it ! he’s due back here next year…
Good evening Christy,
Firstly my son Charlie made a fair point today, that NO TIME FOR LOVE is one of the best ever punk songs. Good shout Charlie.
Secondly i was pouring over Lisdoonvarna and trawling for micho Russell, willie Clancy and Noel Hill, finding some great stuff on them , with Noel and Micho even together on youtube on The Pure Drop, but who was ….Doctor Bill?
I know Dave has a theory but i reckon you might know!
Cheers
Rory …the Banner Man ( whilst investigating Lisdoon anyway)
Christy's reply
Rory,
Dr Bill was Doctor Bill Loughnane…..as well as being a medical man he also played Fiddle and, betimes I think, was a member of The Tulla Ceilí band. He came on stage with Planxty one night in The Merriman Tavern in Scariff, County Clare.Back in 1972-3 Aiden and Síle O’Beirne hosted great gigs in that renowned venue. We used to gig there on a Saturday night but sometimes did not leave ’til Monday.

Just got the latest newsletter from Simon at http://www.notquitelight.com As ever, fascinating visual and info content. Wonderful images and, for anyone interested (esp in Northern England),it might be worth signing up for news, as some events are planned for 2021, pretty much in the Salford area – his home patch.
Time for a cuppa and a wander through the website. Wonderful photos among the NQL mojo of night/day – urban/rural – goes well as ‘early years’ resonates.
All the best
Dave

Up to my eyes here in lyrics, melodies, chords, verses, choruses, intros, outros, keys, some new songs reverberating, barely had time for the dinner,
Hello Christy,
Do you still have the sound desk recording? I’d love to hear it.
I’m full steam ahead learning the peacock’s feather. Watched a couple of dance videos of hornpipes too. It’s a gorgeous dance rhythm and the tune is lovely too. I’m hoping to have got the feather tamed in a week or so. Thank goodness it’s not the whole peacock.
Rebecca
Hi Christy, being a long-time listener can I just echo Pat’s comments he put it much better than I could.
Constantly listening to Early Years too.
Hope everyone well. Pam
Ah Christy! Beautiful Early Years. My old next door neighbour in Haggardstown, at the age of 90 something, gave me a bit of advice. He said never listen to those buttering you up to be a great fella. They are only blowing the wind up your arse to put a big head on you. Well Christy, I’m not blowing…. Deadly serious I am. You seem to be around all my life, entertaining, educating, challenging, putting it up to all to do right, and many times just having and giving pure fun. The Early Years captures all that and more. Some great memories, some beautiful moments. Thanks. I will return with more reflections, but it actually exceeds my expectations!
If Rory likes to drop me an email, patdarcyis@gmail.com, Paddy could be on a cloud…. Not the vinyl, I’m holding out for the €1087 for that…
Love your Vicar St. Selection, really looking forward to seeing/hearing yourself and Andy together on stage.
Does this train stop on Merseyside…. Fair play fella!

Your Neighbour in Haggardstown spoke wise words….lets keep the ball on the ground and face the puck out
RIP John Lennon – gone 40 years ago today, after 40 years on the planet.
I heard the news mid morning on 9th,told to me in an offhand way by a dismissive colleague. It felt like a kick in the gut as the Beatles/John and Yoko had helped shape my life…hopefully, today will see good music and tributes,
Also, good that Yoko finally gained belated respect. Her 60s art that initially attracted John was way ahead of its time.
All the best
Dave

John & Yoko could stir it up..no doubt….Paul stick bangin out the hits….Ringo still kickin about…let my guitar gently weep
Hi Christy,
Good old Dave reminded me that Crock of Gold is out today.
Shane for pope…what a world it would be.
Great, great lyric writer, he lives life to the max, i collected the pogues stuff from early doors, saw them support costello in Edinburgh playhouse in 82 then all over the shop for years and years, he is a living legend.
You have been lucky enough to have shared a stage and sing with him…what a bhoy.
He is my second favourite entertainer, superlatives and raspberries he does not care but The Auld Main Drag, Rainy night in Soho, fairytale, paddy public enemy no.1, the snake, a pair pf brown eyes ( i love your live version) , sally maclennane ( i have a shaped picture disc bought in wishaw market) , fiesta, Streets of Sorrow, Broad majestic Shannon….where does the list end ?
When you sang Spancil Hill with him on the late, late show the words may not have been perfect but what a highlight for me.
Now where is that botte of martini and my vinyl of Red Roses for Me?
All the best
Rory
Hello Christy,
Oh good, I was wondering if we’d get another listen to you from the National Concert Hall.
The thing with Laoise and Liam is fab. I liked the whistle playing. There wasn’t a single rough shod jazz player in sight.
Georgia and Fiji was a slug fest, wasn’t it. I think Georgia and Italy could be a fine match. I hope they keep this competition going in coming years.
Rebecca
Lining up music and jobs for the day and realised I’d neglected Gerry Diver’s website… in the ‘video’ section, the first is a wonderful piece on Shane, that I hadn’t seen before… Gerry produces a treasure trove, for sure
The other day it struck me that it’s nigh on 30 years since the release (and huge impact of ) the combined talents of ‘A Woman’s Heart’. Now,lots of online info/youtube clips ,but ,great to remember the early 90s impact…
also, the tour, with the chance to hear great combinations of voices.eg Dolores Keane and Mary Black (and, the first time I was lucky enough to witness the ace playing of Mr Declan Sinnott!)
So,lots of memory lane to wander on a gloomy Monday – and heaps of background info about many artists (inc your good self/Planxty) c/o www,dararecords.com Time for a cuppa first – and another listen to the ‘Button Factory’ clip (what a great name for a venue…)
