My husband Ben introduced me to your music in January 2007 (about two weeks after we’d first met…!)
I am VERY English and he is VERY Irish. And he sang along to your Live At The Point songs, which were all fab, and then Bright Blue Rose came on… I’d never heard it before but I thought it was beautiful.
I took a dangerous punt and asked him to marry me (during the instrumental bit at the end). And HURRAH! He said yes!
Because of the role of Bright Blue Rose in our relationship, two beautiful children now roam the planet – Ferdia and Pippa, our children.
Christy Moore, you have so much to do with their creation. One day, when we’re all pushing up clover, perhaps I’ll see you up there, sitting on a cloud and strumming away on your guitar, being witty and sardonic and clever, and hating politicians. (What a good song that is!)
If so I’ll wink at you and thank you, and laugh at you taking the Michael out of the Royal Family and Maggie and all the other odd bods.
Your dedication on Saturday night made my year. In fact, it is SO special in my head that no words can sum it up.

among my memories over 50 years of recording, one of my most precious is that piece on the outro of Bright Blue Rose….I had two Pipers playing there , LIam O’Flynn and Paddy Moloney … it was a magic moment for me..
When my sister Anne married Davoc Rynne in 1969 there was a beautiful session of music in the cellar of Downings House ( where I subsequently recorded the Prosperous album)…Liam and Paddy played together that night and it was a beautiful moment…. I always wanted to hear them together again and 20 years on they played that outro to BBR

Great to hear Duffys Cut again. Some real beauties in the mix last night and some decent calls from the crowd … “first time..” was class , not often you get a request for it and then the songs seemed to melt into each other seamlessly. Loved “The Well ” too and a rip-roaring finale. . . . So easy to drawn to yourself and Dec and miss out on the hard graft Jimmy is putting in on the crescendo of No Time for Love.
Anyway I have a shift done so ….seconds out ….round two !!

Cathal is away with” 4 Men & a Dog” tonight…he has been with them now for nigh on 25 years. I first met him when we toured Finland together….great that they are still barking… we will adjust perameters, loosen belts and take all measures necessary to insure that the brief is fulfilled…..

I came from Helsinki Finland to see Cristy Moore at Clanree. My first time ever in Ireland. Voyage was my first album I bought some 25years ago. Thursdays show filled my heart with joy and left me little bit speechless and emotional. I cover some of the songs in my hometown occasionally and I keep trying to learn new ones. For me it’s been a long time coming to see Christy play live. I had a great seat and the sound could not have been nicer. I wish I had booked Friday also. Thank you Christy for the show and your work.

Clanree has changed completely since I first played here..total overhaul…crystal chandeliers twinkling in the night..swimming pool for midnight apres gig dips…gym to shed surplus averdupois…..its such an added bonus to play these double gigs..get to see the town…check out the locality..visit friends from the distant past…I’m here in my room thinking about all these potential activities..just thinking about them has me exhausted …goin to play a different set tonight ( maybe) gotta look after the listeners who are doing the double shift..Cathal cant be with us tonight so we are back to a Trio..Declan will have to pluck more notes from the airs tonight..may even do a few solos myself…Cathal has brought some fresh colours to the sound…he busks beautifully…last night I played a few songs he had never heard before but by verse 2 he was jamming verse 3 harmonising and then towards the end he was ready to rock….its uplifting for the singer when surrounded by such music as these players provide…Jimmy is rock solid..I still remember when I first heard him…he was in Eleanor Shanleys Band and we did a UK tour together….then he disappeared into RIVERDANCE for a decade to tour the world with the music of Bill Whelan….these times he plays ( sometimes) with The Stunning, Altan, Mairtín O’Connor Band also guests with many different Trad Outfits, a wedding band and teaches rhythms at Chuck Feeneys in UCL….anyways John, tis time for the breakfast..two hard boiled eggs with toasted muffins to calm my echoing stomach….coming back to Derry in early November, hope to have a new live album by then….fierce mixing going on at the moment

I’m thinking back on that room last night…we hit that stage to find 700 people waiting….listeners from many distant places… the ones that I could see included those 2 boys from Gweedore…You Wilson lovebirds from British Columbia, Hilary from Tralee, Lar from Blackrock, 2 Martys & Ger from Tír Conaill…from Derry,Sligo,Leitrim, Antrim and Tyrone good people came, Traudel and Horst from Germany via West Cork…..I heard requests for Musgrave, John O’Dreams, Last Cold Kiss, January Man, Johnny Jump Up, Only Our Rivers and many others too, but sadly there was neither time nor vocal left…its all a mystery to me….this night 51 years ago it was just beginning…what has happened since is all beyond me…way out there, all beyond me…I met Declan in London in 1972, Cathal in Finland in 1988, Jimmy in Manchester in 1995, here we are, somehow together in Donegal in 2017….drawn together by songs and fate, held together by our love of playing music, sustained by the desire of good listeners to hear ….travel safely you good Wilsons, wherever your dreams take you

after the gig last Thu,my wife and I were exiting thru the back stage area..as we walked the passageway there was Bob standing 12 inches away from us. He was deep in discussion with an old friend….It was indeed a special moment for us to stand so close to that man who has delivered so much to so many…Despite a whelming desire to (simply) say hello or thank you we desisted and moved on rapid, leaving the good man in peace…both my wife and I experienced special precious moments at the gig, he sang a great set, the band were just right for the night, no tricks nor shapes nor egos,(they’ve been around him a long time)…. everyone (Bob included) played second fiddle to the songs….there was a lot of love in the room….he came with the dawn and was gone with the wind
Helo Christy. I just had a dream that you were sitting in some overgrown woods telling me a story about a guy who tried to make threats to someone over the telephone by using movie quotes. When the guy on the receiving end noticed, he started replying with the corresponding quotes. Eventually the one doing the threatening ran out of quotes and the guy on the receiver said, “well where’s the rest”? and he didn’t know what to do. There was also some story about spending 80 dollars on vending machine candy. Anyway, I hope you’re doing well. I love your music and I hope some day I can come back to Ireland and see one of your shows.

We first heard your music almost exactly 24 years ago when we travelled through Ireland on our honeymoon. We had very little money but we rented a car and purchased one cassette tape at a record shop to listen to on our 2 week tour of Ireland – thank God for the recommendation of the woman at that record shop that we bought your album! We have been fans ever since and always wanted to see your live show. In the mean time we’ve raised 3 children and have finally returned to Ireland again for a “second honeymoon” and when we learned that you were playing in May it seemed meant to be. Hi Christy, great to look at the old set list, when I started singing the songs were , Peggy Gordon, Kevin Barry, Boulavogue, Bat outa hell for to speed it up before they fell into a coma. Did a few songs in Boston and met George Doyle , he was with yourself and Rory backstage in lisdoon, lovely man. he is in under the bonnet even as we speak,checkin points plugs and tappetts, brake pads replenished,oil changed,tyres kicked and wing mirrors adjusted…the nose is pointed towards Letterkenny….I always remember the Folk Festival there in the 80s…also used to play “The Golden Grill” … I think the gaffer was in politics at the time….I think I slept on the Beach after a gig there..is there a beach in Letter?

he is in under the bonnet even as we speak,checkin points plugs and tappetts, brake pads replenished,oil changed,tyres kicked and wing mirrors adjusted…the nose is pointed towards Letterkenny….I always remember the Folk Festival there in the 80s…also used to play “The Golden Grill” … I think the gaffer was in politics at the time….I think I slept on the Beach after a gig there..is there a beach in Letter?

saw a programme called Wild CIty on TG4….an insightful look at the wild life that exists around,beneath and above that City of Wonder, Crack and Beauty, saw Otters, Starlings,Swans,Barn Owls,Squirrels,Seals as the City roared all round them..
its part of a series on TG4..the guy narrating the Galway episode was very good….great incidental music too
