Hi Christy, coming to watch you in Kilkenny tomorrow night all the way from Belfast. What’s the chances you blasting out “cliffs of doneen” to match the six creamy pints we will have on our tray ? Thanks a million Derren
Christy's reply
OK…Lets get the show on road….two posts..does that mean 12 pints ?
Some days your happier than others to see the postman. One day last week he brought tickets ! so again I’m headed from New York to Glasgow. The Royal Concert Hall on Friday April 28th and the “not so sit down” gig on Saturday the 29th at Barrowlands. I’m hoping if the mood suits that you can get The Gardener into the set one of the nights. Thanks again and I hope all’s good with you..
Christy's reply
he is the patient one
Mother Nature’s loving son
The gardener is
a friend of his…
Out of hibernation at last and just landed in Athlone. Been watching the happenings of the last while from afar. Interesting times and sad times rolled up together………… 8 o clock can’t come fast enough now. ……… hup !!!
An email arrives with a couple of dates in September 2017. Neither are that near us, nor are they on your website yet
Part of a bigger tour in the UK perhaps, or just some strange wish of yourself to visit Watford?
Christy's reply
Hey Funky Gibbon..
Whats so strange about wanting to play in Watford ? I dont recall any Watfordians voicing such queries before either of my two visits to Basingstoke………I last played Watford in 1967 and had a particularly good gig there…….dont do big tours anymore….4 gigs is a tour these days….played 318 gigs in 1969…my busiest year… but I was 24 then…..back then the usual Folk Club gig was 2×20 minute sets….these nights we play for around two hours or whatever works best on the night…have you some strange aversion to dear old Watford? ..or is it an Elton hang-up ….let us not forget “The Boy in The Gap”
Thank you Christy for a wonderful gig on 24th March at Nuremore Hotel. I have listened to you for many years from over here in the UK and was overwhelmed when we drove into the venue last week to find that my wife had booked tickets to see you perform live after flying me to Ireland for a surprise weekend. We enjoyed every minute of the night and Declan was brilliant too. Truely awesome! Thank you. Paul & Trudy
Christy's reply
Thanks Paul,
Thanks for sharing the circumstance of your visit…what a surprise Trudy put together for you…
I like the drive to Nuremore, I love the rolling Monaghan hills and its always been a good gig county
It was a lively gig ..that bus load of rapscallions from Tyrone certainly injected energy into the night but I enjoyed their enthusiasm..it was fuelled entirely by their passion for singing and songs..they brought me back to those distant teenage nights when I went to hear The Clancy Brothers…
Best wishes to You & Trudy
Angela still has her b and b. The island is still as beautiful as ever too. If you can fit a gig in anytime on your tours my number is 0861607540 or 09973136… Id love to organise things this end. Thanks for taking the time to reply.
Slán go fóill
Karen.
Hi Christy
Any chance youd consider fitting our little island in for a gig anytime soon. I believe you used to frequent the place many moons ago. It would be a fantastic boost for the island to see and hear you here again.
Míle buíochas
Karen
Christy's reply
Truth is Karen, its never far from my mind….I have never visited a more beautiful place…will always remember singing in the community hall there the week that Tomás and Sean were lost out of Inis Oírr…..
“From Connor’s Fort and from Synge’s Chair
towards Inis Mór and Inis OÍrr
they scour the sea in silent prayer
as the go searching for their neighbours”
I wrote that in Angela Flaherty’s guesthouse all those years ago…some day I’d love to return and walk the Island again and again
What a lively evening in Tullamore, great energy as always Christy. Just makes me feel good listening to the songs, music and craic. Takes away all the troubles of the week and gives me a burst of energy.
Lovely experience for Aine, you certainly made her day.
Christy's reply
I loved the way that Áine just went for it… it was a lovely moment
Tullamore has always been a welcoming place..my first gig there was in 1972 with Planxty, maybe its the Allen Air and The Canal Water
I am looking forward to seeing you in Athlone on Friday night and hopefully in Roscommon also the following week.
I would just like to thank you for all your music through the years. The sad songs the joyous songs and all the other emotions your songs give us all. I feel your music teaches me about being Irish. As a 90s child this is something that is greatly missing in my generation. My other great teacher in being Irish was my Grandmother. I always think of her when I hear wise and holy woman.
“She sang of the eagle flying high above the mountain
The otter that swam through rivers and streams
Of the lilies that bloomed and the countless wild flowers
and the rainbow that rose in the valley of tears.”
Thanks again Christy, You are an Irish legend.
David
Christy's reply
Good man David, all of us singers need songwriters and listeners to keep us well supplied…songs come on the air, we learn them and send them on their way..without all you good listeners we would be singing songs to ourselves alone..thats ok in its own way but its hard to bate the real thing
good morning christy,
i woke early, too early ,but it gives me the chance to post about my four fantastic days in april.
on the 26th i am bringing my son to the usher hall, he has grown to love what you do, “that’s my boy” i thought.
and then my brother and i head for two days to stay in kilcullen to follow our annual pilgrimage to punchestown, for all that this wonderful event ( and ruby) provides.
on the saturday i travel back so that i can come to the barrowland concert with other relations.
yes ,i am a very lucky man.
last year i was far too late requesting a ballad for your gig in derry,so i would like prematurely to suggest ,if i can be so bold, that the scottish border ballad sung so poigniantly by john reilly, ‘raggle taggle gypsy’ might go down well against the austere facade of the usher hall ,whilst ‘the boy from tamlaghtduff’ would be a tune that we could help you out with in the barras.
anyway i must try to catch some sleep before i ramble on further, stay well christy, and whatever you sing we will adore it just the same.
rory
Christy's reply
As a boy I cycled to Punchestown from Newbridge…Old Connell, Baroda, Corbally, Two-Mile-House and into Punchestown…always loved to watch the gee-gees….within 7 miles of home we had The Curragh, Naas and Punchestown racecourses…back them we also had The Phoenix Park and Baldoyle courses…lots of Yards,Stables and Gallops…..Flat and Jump Jockeys, betting shops, Owners Trainers Vets and Valets….Tipsters,Tick-tock men and 3 card tricksters, Prince Monolulu, Boiler White and Darky Prendergast….Garnet Bougoure,Jimmy Eddery and Mrs Bullet-Biddle…Aga Khan, Rhonda Fleming and Bing Crosby….no wonder we all ended up half mad
Hi Christy, so excited that you are playing Worthing! Are you able to reveal the date yet….And is it the Assembly Hall or the Pavilion? I don’t think you have played here since 1994ish…..I know I couldn’t attend , at the time, because of lack of a babysitter….My youngest baby is now nearly 23 🙂
Christy's reply
all I have at the moment is 2nd week in September..soon as I get further details we’ll post it on the gig page….
Hi Christy, Tyrone girl again! Thanks for the nice comments – definitely took the bull my the horns, wasn’t going to let an opportunity like that pass me by:) Hope you don’t mind but I posted a video of Tuam Beat on my Facebook! it’s already got over 13,000 views. https://www.facebook.com/aineglackin/videos/10208487138638503/
If you fancy a sequel next time you’re up North give me a shout!
Christy's reply
Sound Áine….probably no sequel but we never say never..last time I did a spontaneous duet was with Coldplay !!
Christy I read your description of Martins funeral. I live in Connemara via Belfast and I travelled up to be there myself. It was heartening to see all the bards there and yes, the feeling of hope was powerrful.
An ancient feeling. Great way to put it. The Old Gods of Ireland, the ancient heros never die. They hide away only and make themselves small and wait until we need them most. I felt like we were walking behind a new one on thursday. Ireland and the Irish. Erin go Bragh …good man Christy, ye have me off on one.
Christy's reply
Heading home from Derry last Thursday evening we watched long lines of cars were heading southwards..Number plates from every county…Thousands travelled from distant places to pay final their respects to Martin….not everyone relies upon Scallcrows of the Fourth Estate to formulate opinion
Hey Christy – I’ve been watching the future gig list and it seems you get to Cork and never leave…..! Any plans for the usual autumn gigs in England at all?? Cheers. Graham
Christy's reply
London, Watford and Worthing this Autumn…… Liverpool, Manchester, next Spring..hopefully the wind will continue to blow in the right direction

“O the rain never falls on The Dusty Diamandtina”
Hey Christy, had a ball at your concert last night in Tullamore. You were an absolute gentleman. Just want to give a massive shout out to DJ Broderick. He knows what he done. Another Gentleman. He deserves an auld clap on the back for his very discreet helpfulness. (Had to Bum a pen and paper to get his name) Hope to see you again very soon.
Christy's reply
Glad to hear that everything worked out…best wishes to you and your Husband
the emotional aspect of songs is a mysterious thing…the combination of lyric, melody, situation, personal circumstance can sometimes produce unforseen reaction, I have betimes been deeply effected by a song (or piece of music) without understanding the reason why… but I always welcome such emotional response,
One Such song goes “Stand up and cry like a man”…..
Tullamore has always been a great gig town, going right back to the Folk Club, The Harriers gigs and The Bridge.. Ride On
Hi Christy I m lying here in hospital bed struggling to sleep while listening to Late Date on radio one when on comes yourself singing Beeswing it was music to my ears as your singing has been for many a long day and long may it continue
Thank you for letting your music keep our spirits high

Christy's reply
Hey Iggy, I wish you a full recovery back home among your family….you’ll be tearing away now, the high jump, the marathon, Rás Tailteann….avoid The Iron Man for at least 6 months, everything in moderation..
Sean Keane’s “One More Hour” is a beautiful recording…good luck to all concerned
Never in my life I’ve been so proud to be a lilly. The Dr Cian O Neil continues to do his magic, what’s happening in kildare football at the moment is exciting for a county that has been under achievers for so long. We are catching the dubs mightnt be this year but we will be on their heels very soon!!!
How ya christy!
The spuds are sowen the grass got its first cut of the year the dandelions are dancing in the wind!
Love this time of the year as it breaths a new lease of life into us all and the gardener really somes that up. “There is a reason for every season”.
Great to hear a new album in production. I’ve haven’t comment here for a while but have been reading the taughts and the messages over the winter and it love hearing the comments of gigs around the country. Well done to all.
Loved the comment you put up about Barrowland being noisy and sweaty!
Well we have the tickets I’m gonna put the sash jersey on again with the dancing shoes and gonna give it sox!
Some people go to lourdes or knock but I’m off to the Barrowland!!
Christy's reply
Great to see the Lily Whites making moves in the right direction…they must surely have been inspired by the Intermediate Women’s great success last year…I wish Cian and his Panel a great season ahead….we are ready for the long haul…Rhode was’nt built in a day…
