Thank you for the lovely comment Christy, you have made a young man in Dundalk very happy this evening, hopefully we will cross paths again, i will keep you informed on here of David’s Dublin Shows if you should ever wish to come along to see him live, All the best Aidan
Dear Christy,
thank you so much for your great concert in Tullamore last night! You made my day! Your “Nancy Spain” just for me made this event even more special! I enjoyed every second of this evening! Thanks to Declan and Jimmy too!
We arrived back home in Hamburg safely today.
I am looking forward to seeing you again soon – maybe in Hamburg?
Thanks a million,
Josefine
Hi Christy! What absolute honour to join you on stage last night, grew up listening to your music! It was your version of Tuam Beat I learnt first, but had to adapt it to keep those tyrone jivers happy!
Thanks Ruairi and Hilary for sending this on to me! Hilary has told me she has passed on my email address, hope to hear from you soon! Go raibh míle maith agat, Aine from Tyrone
Christy's reply
Hey Glack, you took the bull by the horns last night Áine, fair play to you, I really enjoyed our wee duet….I’ve not heard the man Mike sing Tuam Beat yet but I hear he has them dancing in the aisles above around The Rock and Pomeroy…soon as I started singin last night I could hear your voice and you sure stopped me in my trax…Shine On Áine Glackin
The country roads make a grand change from the motorway!
All the gigs are great, big or small. Gigging away since I’m 13 (now 18 only) I’m playing away with a band made up of myself, my father, my friend and his father. We would do most of the Irish ballad and folk songs. We are on Facebook as “Clann Eireann” if you wanted to check us out!
I see your other reply about you looking for the Tyrone woman that got up on stage with you last night for The Tuam Beat. I know her and the family well. So Iv contacted the brother to let her know about the comment.
Was a joy to see you perform a Masterclass last night in Tullamore, i last saw you play in The Warwick in Galway in 2001, i mentioned in a previous post that i manage David Keenan from Dundalk, i think John Reynolds might have sent you this track already but would love if you went over and left a comment on his youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QL8pm_4ru9M&list=PLnydjIdQPZf2Zxj0wQLorPtWbNjbU6euL – Fait Play for kicking the show off with Back Home in Derry – Keep her Lit

Thanks for the mention of The Warwick in Salthill….that gig was the very start of this leg of the ongoing tour…I remember the room very well and the gig and the buzz of it all…
Hope all you Grandmothers ,Mothers, Daughters Sisters, Aunts,Nieces and Non-Aligned Women of the World have a good day today…let us all remember from whence we came….who carried and nurtured, cradled and cooed, lifted and ‘learnt’,swabbed and sewed,
Well Christy,
Another brilliant night in the Nuremore in Carrickmacross last night. A rather lively night was had especially with that bus load of Tyrone Boys. Well worth the journey up, it was a fine set. Looking forward to hearing the new release later in the year.
On the way home today, I made a quick pit stop to the relations in Coilldubh, then out through Robertstown, over by the Hill of Allen, Milltown, and so on. Made it back to Cork to do our own gig. It’s always much easier to do the small gigs when fuelled off the energy from a gig like yours!
Anyway, not long now until Barrowlands, I’ll see ye there!
Christy's reply
we travelled the same roads yesterday Ruairí….I love those cross country journeys…to escape the drudge of those Motorways occasionally…to encounter some basics,…Ferguson TVOs, daffodils on the verge,hen-runs,talkin across the walls,
hope your gigs are going well.tell us a bit about what your at, where you playin?
it took us a thousand “small” gigs to gain the “chops” required to do what we do these nights…Declan, Jimmy and myself have done thousands of “small” between us….different bands across the decades forever trading riffs and beats, ballads and shapes
One night in Aberdeen back in 1967 I did a gig to 4 people…in my experience every gig is significant, every listener is precious, every night a life enhancing gift to me…….I wish you well in your music
Thanks for a wonderful gig in Tullamore tonight….and a new singer appears for the Tuam Beat, didn’t she do well. There was no fear of Declan falling asleep with the pace you set??.Lovely to meet Petra on her Tour.
Onwards to the Shannon Banks next where we will have the usual welcome on the Mat.
Best regards
Patsy

Fair Play the Tyrone woman last night for lepping up and joining in when invited…I was half way into the first verse of “Tuam Beat” when I became aware of a great voice in the front row…she stopped me in my tracks and I invited her up (despite the fact that she had obviously learnt the song from a different singer ! she had the “jive” version, very popular in Tyrone where they are pure divvils for the jive !) ….
(If Ms Tyrone reads this, please give us a shout here)
Good,as always,to hear from you Patsy….see you in Athlone come Friday….hometown of my Grand Father Christy Moore, never met the man, he died when my father,Andy Moore, was just 4 years old back in 1919 ….
Thanks Christy, I saw Peter Byrne & Conor Mahony in Whelan’s last November on the launch of their brilliant CD ‘Land and Sea’ and knew they’d fit right in at The Punchbowl. A right crowd expected looking for the heart of Saturday night.
Luka Bloom plays on Thursday 20th April (with Sara Ryan) and it’s one I’m looking forward to seeing Immensely…hup the gigs…
Christy's reply
Well done Lar…glad to hear you are getting a bit of a break….I hear last nights gig in The Punchbowl went very well
Christy please come to Toronto! I’m 50 this year and it’s on my bucket list to see you in concert!
Christy's reply
Happy 50th Seamus….its highly unlikely that I will make it back to Toronto….gave up using airports and aeroplanes 20 years ago.. I have much to do here in Bognia..still many towns to visit, boreens to navigate, friends to meet and songs to collect…when I was younger I loved my 4 visits to Toronto and Vancouver courtesy of Colm & Betty O Brien with Mick Casey….we had some great nights…but then I got a new van back here and a good PA system…ever since I been as busy as a bee in a bucket …I sing a few Canadian songs from the likes of Ron Hines, Joni Mitchell and Natalie Merchant….you got some great chanters over there in Canadayio …..
Morning Christy, as always it was a fantastic set from you last night. Apart from the noisy spoilers at the back, rude buggers. Just wanted to ask where and when we are likely to be able to get the new song you recorded last night about the Black Mountain. It was pretty special. Cheers again, we loved you in Vicar Street and again last night at the Nuremore, Carrickmacross.
Christy's reply
Morra Mike,
I enjoyed the banter with that van load of buachaills from Tyrone….they were noisy and boisterous but it all came from a well of enthusiasm for the songs..I hope they did not upset anyone sitting close by…my crew did try once or twice to calm them down but eventually I decided to join them rather then quell them…they took me over during “Joxer”, they outsang me during “Ordinary Man”, they tried to take over “Beeswing” but Richard Thompsons beautiful ballad shushed them for 3 minutes…..they reminded me of what lies ahead in Barrowland,Glasgow….the noisiest, sweatiest, lovliest, most challenging gig on earth which I love most dearly..
My first taste of the Barrowland experience was almost 30 years ago…I was giving “Quinte Brigada” socks when two strings snapped simultaeneously, I stopped singin but the Barrowland choir took no notice and continued on without me
“Where the shooting stars light up the fresco
where the lost ones and the lovers go
to waltz beneath the carousel of healing
to jitterbug and boogie the night away”
the song you mention will feature on the next album, due for release in the Autumn of this year, already in production I hope that last nights version will be included..Ive not heard the recording yet but the audience gave it every chance
I’m about to leave Ulster now..after an emotional few days its farewell to Monaghan Hills and Derry airs…. back now to Leinster, across the Plains of Royal Meath towards Tullamore where Donal Lunny was born in 1947….always a good night in that County Offaly town..there will be no mention of Kerry’s five-in-a-row tonight
Morning, what you did in Derry was very special, touched everyone, and will remain in many hearts and minds for a very long time, just like the man himself. It was very moving to see you, it must’ve felt the same doing it.
Christy's reply
hey Lar…hope ye have a good gig tonight with Peter Byrne in The Punchbowl in Booterstown..give him and Conor O’Mahoney my best wishes…I hear you have Luka Bloom coming there…what night is that ? hope I can make it to hear my good brother sing
Hi Christy
I’m sure I speak for so many when I say that I was truly moved by your rendition at Martins funeral. The words were self explanatory but it was in between the lines that touched the soul. Thank you. Looking forward to seeing you at Hamilton next month. Hope you have “The Blantyre Explosion” ready ? Only a few miles along the road. Would mean so much.
Christy's reply
I stepped up beside her and gently I asked her
“would it help you to talk ’bout the cause of your pain”?
weeping and wailing at last she did answer,
“Johnny Murphy, kind sir, was my true Lover’s name”
Had to write after listening to your beautiful heartfelt rendition of ” The time has come” at the graveside of the late Martin McGuinness.
What a lovely memory you have left for Martin’s heartbroken family. To honour a man of his caliber in front of his people the right thing to do.
A man who never denied his past and who ultimately led his people to peace while the hurlers on the ditches threw stones of abuse at him.
Arlene Foster said ” we will not see the like of him again ” and only a fool would not agree with her.
Its not how you start the race but how you finish.
Kind regards

Hey Barney…greetings form the Hills of County Monaghan..just finished a gig here in Carrickmacross..we had some night of it here Ulster..a busload of rapscallions in from Tyrone nearly outsang me but I scored two goals in the last five minutes and the Lily Whites bate them once again !!!
Drove here from Derry late last night after laying Martin to rest in the Republican Plot high above the River Foyle…never experienced anything quite like it… he was carried shoulder high down the steep hill from Derry City into the Bogside..tens of thousands thronged his native streets and lanes in silence showing great love and deep respect for their native son….then on up past the Brandywell Stadium (still shrouded in mourning for the loss of their Ryan McBride) Martin was shouldered high to where so many of his fallen comrades lie….
a day to remember for many reasons…Martins tight-knit Family huddled close together in their grief, their pride and dignity intact for the world to see….Arlene Foster applauded by the people of Derry for being there…..Bill Clinton travelling from USA to respect the Freedom Fighter who became a man of Peace…. The recent words of Ian Paisley Jnr still resound…Gerry Adams oration was so inclusive as he reached out across The Lough…Mary Lou and Michelle standing by his side …..
It was heartwarming to stand beside my old Planxty colleague Matt Molloy, to hear him play for Martin…to hear Frances Black sing Martin’s favourite song “Raglan Road”..to hear the Choir from Cúl Aodha sing Sean Ó Ríada’s Mass with Peader at the helm….
to meet so many old friends….an abiding memory was all the cars on the road South last night…cars form the 32 counties bearing mourners who had travelled the length and breadth to say farewell to their fallen Leader…there was an ancient feel to yesterdays proceedings…..and there was hope upon the Derry Air…a lot has changed since 1968…hope that all of us upon this tiny Island might embrace the change
lovely to get your post from The Curragh of Kildare
Hi Christy. Hope that you’re well. I’m going to see you on 26th April in Edinburgh for the first time. Growing up with a Dad from Kilcock and a Mam from Moyglare you were always on in the house. I remember the annual holiday to Milltown Malbay, where you would be played on a loop! Memories of my Dad singing Black is the Colour to my Mam. And now for myself having moved to Scotland in 2013, listening to you lessens the pain of missing them and somewhat dispels the feeling that they’re not a sea away. Looking forward to seeing you play.
Christy's reply
Gráinne..we’ll try and honour your deep Kildare roots..we’ll sing you a short grass serenade…we’ll wave the flourbags around Auld Reekie
Hi Christy, hope you’re well.
I’m headed to your gig in the Glasgow Concert Hall at the end of April and can’t wait. I’ve been a fan of yours since I was kid growing up in Clare. My mam is a proud Tullla woman and she once took great pleasure in telling me that you used to work in the bank there. I often think of you whenever I pass through The Windswept Hill. Looking forward to seeing you next month and finally hearing you sing in person.

I arrived in Tulla in 1964 and lodged up the hill with Mrs Tubridy…a lovely lady who took great pride in caring for her lodger…the first night I rambled down to John Minogue’s (R.I.P.) where I first heard Spancilhill….the following week I learnt “The Scariff Martyrs” from Teddy Murphy’s Mother. The week after that I was invited to the home of Paddy Canny and he invited me to ” vamp the bull fiddle” as he played reels by the range in his kitchen. Mrs Canny laid on a feast of I enjoyed the greatest of East Clare hospitality. it all ended sudeenly when my job was transferred Ballyhaunis in Co Mayo…and “the whole bloody business started all over again” ….what a life ! roll on Glasgow…come all you dreamers
