since my first visit to Ireland in 1979 I am definitely one of your truest fans.
Last Christmas my son Vincent (21) gave to me the best Christmas present I ever got. Four envelopes, the first contained a voucher for a rental car, the second a hotel voucher, the third a voucher for a flight to Dublin on the 24th of March, the fourth contained two Tickets for your gig in Tullamore. I cried, he cried, and everyone I told later about this present, cried too.
So I am very happy to get the chance to listen to you on March 25th in Tullamore.
I was the one who always shouted “Nancy Spain” when you asked for any requests at your gigs in Hamburg – do you think you could possibly play it in Tullamore? This would give the little extra to my wonderful Christmas present!
I am also so much looking forward to listen to your songs of your latest album “Lily” which I also got for Christmas!

Hi Christy, there aren’t enough superlatives in my vocabulary to describe tonight’s gig in the Clonmel Park Hotel.All I can say is that it was an absolute privilage to be in the same room listening to a storyteller of that caliper.
Christy, you are one of a kind. The Commercials shouldn’t be offering you that county medal, they should be organising that OBE that you were on about.

Hey John,It was great to be home in The Vale,so many memories came flooding back as I crossed the Mainguard, passed beneath the Westgate….many contemporaries from those heady days no longer with us but their legacy reverberates….when I landed there in 1963 my Landlady was the legendary Annie Kehoe..last night her Grandaughter and two great-Grandaughters were seated in the front row….I felt at home….
we had travelling listeners from Melbourne, Atlanta, Holycross, Ardfinnan, Offaly, Kildare,Tralee and from many other parishes…hitting the stage last night the waft of perfume and aftershave had me high as a kite….

I was NEVER entitled to a medal from my brief time with Clonmel Commercials…they were a great team of players…my fantasy was that I had played in the County Final against Ardfinnan….I told the story so often that, somewhere along the line, I began to believe it myself. Yes I trained and kicked with the Commercials. I even donned the colours occasionally (when they were short a man or two).However my GAA skills were far behind the likes of Theo English, Johnny and Timmy Ryan, “Boc” O’Callaghan, Mick Egan, Liam Boland, Johnny MacNamara, Frank Lafford, Tom Pollard, Timmy Dwyer, George Collins, Dennis O’Donoghue, Conor Dwyer, Brendan O’Keeffe and the other great players of that squad……I usually came into my own during “the afters”….once the ballad session started, once the large bottles were frothing, Twas then I was never found wanting…..we had some crack….Rosin The Bow, Brennan on the Moor and the Tri Coloured Ribbon….. and the same again til morning……
Hi Christy. Really looking forward to seeing you again here at the Royal Concert Hall 28th April. I chose the ‘quieter’ contemplative Concert Hall gig this time round but I’m sure the Barrowlands will be an altogether more ‘lively’ hoot! There’s someone I’ve been listening to, a lovely lady, Bronwynne Brent – from the Mississippi Delta. She has two albums out called Stardust and Deep Black Water. I’ve seen her a few times and I can imagine you doing your thing with one of her songs – along the lines of your Natalie Merchant, Morrisy, etc covers. I hope you don’t mind me suggesting this source material but I think her lyrics and melodies might be interesting to you. I’m 66 years young and never been moved to such boldness! As far as my listening goes she’s up there with you and Natalie – flavours of Joni and Amy coming through too – definitely niche artist. Maybe just not so many albums though. Hello Christy, I’m Riccardo from Teramo (a small city in Abruzzi, Italy). Since I was a child I have always loved rock music… and Ireland, so I always loved Rory Gallagher. I know your song for him “Rory is gone”. I’m writing you because I’m working on a literary project about Rory Gallagher. It’s not an official biography, it’s just my little tribute to him. I wish you could tell me about him and, maybe, give me some photos with him. In 2016 I published a novel (“The last bard song”), a thriller where four guys go to Ireland on Rory trails, across the wonderful “Emerald Isle”: the trip starts from Dublin, by car, then they go to Ballyshannon for “The Rory Gallagher International Tribute Festival”. They go to the historical points where he’s remembered, like the commemorative plaque at the hospital where he was born. Finally Cork, and then they come back to Dublin to leave for Italy. I met Rory 4 times ,always in backstage locations..
we never met outside work situations..from those few brief conversations I have memory of a quiet private man, an introvert who exploded into an extrovert guitar hero soon as he strapped on his Fender and faced the loving listeners…
I saw him play 3 times live and recognised him to be the “real deal” … no shite, no contrived showmanship,.. just pure,raw, beautiful music delivered with passion, creativity and brilliant skill

Just wanted to say thank you for yet another fantastic gig in The Woodlands Hotel in Waterford last week. Yourself, Declan, Jimmy and Cathal were in flying form. The craic was mighty! I’m only counting down the days til the next gig in Carrickmacross on the 24th.
Went to see Declan O Rourke tonight in De Barra’s, a brilliant night. My first time in that venue,’tis a fantastic spot!

I also heard a rumour that Tom Touhy apparently surfaced in Mayo a few months back, I don’t know how true that is but I’d thought you’d like to know!

Hi Christy. I had the absolute pleasure of listening to you and Declan in UL in Limerick a few months ago. Absolutely mesmorising! Loved it. I gave my husband Pat and two sons Joe and Tom tickets for Clonmel for Xmas. Tom Hynes my youngest was thrilled as he has been listening to you since he was about 8 years old (15 now). There was a time where ‘Sonny’ was on all day and nearly broke my heart but then he decided he wanted to dress up as Christy Moore for Halloween when he was about 8. He told me he needed a white swimming cap, black tshirt, black pants and a guitar and he’d go to the houses ‘trick or treating’!!! He changed his mind and wanted to get an Aran jumper to be Liam Clancy but in the end went as Dracula!!! Anyhoo they will be in Clonmel Park Hotel Fri 10th March and his favourite song is “Bees Wing”. If you could say hi to him that would make his year altogether. So looking forward to hearing how much they’ll enjoy it I reckon it will be an memory for Pat and the boys they’ll talk about for a long time. Hope you and Declan and the crew have a great night in Clonmel. Looking forward to seeing you again sometime. These days 4711ers have been sending me songs about hares, and H Tralí insists that hares must run free like in the song tunnel tigers she sent me.John Doire sent me The Creggan White Hare then this somehow led me to discover Andy Irvines version of “The close shave”. Never heard of it before did you hear it? ,I might give it a rattle very funny song.There are many songs somewhat similar to it ,damsel of nineteen years old ,Caileach na Screebe, to name just two.I am also in the early stages of learning Cool in the Traffic(Padraig Stevens the bard of Tuam )
My other dadó (82) locally is one of the oldest members going to meeting .He is 45 years in the rooms “as he says himself” “The gardener song” tells about him.He broke his hand last week drives him crazy to stay inside.I like to be with him.

back home after once again a fantastic but too short holiday in Ireland. I’ve said it here before I think, but you are truly the nicest people on earth. The way we were treated so kindly, surprises us each time. You, your crew, Hilary and other 4711-ers, the local people, give us always such a warm welcome feeling, while being foreigners at the end. Thank you all for that.
We are so enjoying each concert of you, that we keep coming back as many as possible. And it was so nice to see that Lars enjoyed it even more, attending the gig as well as being in Ireland.
On Sunday, we hiked in Glendalough and on Sunday we walked in Blessington and visited Russborough house .
I think it was the very first time we heard you live singing Johny Jump Up. Well, If we live to a hundred or a hundred and ten, we will never forget those magic nights in Ireland. Thank you and see you soon.

I heard on the news that Southern counties yellow warning . t’is grand here… none of that goin’ on in this place … some rain not too bad, even though we usually get bad storms , gale winds , báisteach never any sneachta.Last storm , the trees fell and landed on the walls that are now supporting them… magpies , crows , pigeons , eagle , Caileach Dubh,seabhac are all flying off and investigating while dad tries with a chainsaw to cut up the trees… How’s the weather where you are a mhac?
Yesterday , I took a wander to see if there was grass growing on other fields for the donkeys… Was sittin’ on the wall , mindin’ me own business what came out of the Yellow Furze but a hare …. she was sitting there for about 15 minutes we just sat there looking at each other …then she flipped her legs , jumped , skipped and whatever a Hare does across the swamp…. I saw them before but not so close and for so long… usually they are havin’ a break, climbin’ a mountain or jumpin’ in a lake on the High Rocky Slopes of Connemara. I told my neighbor about seeing her and he told me shes there alright ..but then he told me that there is a black one living on a little island beside my field.I didn’t say one word but I know hes fond of the drink and maybe its a mink or an otter or an hallucination he is seeing.
Anyways I am glad to hear you are doing continental ceile again its one of those hard songs with lots of words to master like follow me up to carlow.

Hi Christy. I had the absolute pleasure of listening to you and Declan in UL in Limerick a few months ago. Absolutely mesmorising! Loved it. I gave my husband Pat and two sons Joe and Tom tickets for Clonmel for Xmas. Tom Hynes my youngest was thrilled as he has been listening to you since he was about 8 years old (15 now). There was a time where ‘Sonny’ was on all day and nearly broke my heart but then he decided he wanted to dress up as Christy Moore for Halloween when he was about 8. He told me he needed a white swimming cap, black tshirt, black pants and a guitar and he’d go to the houses ‘trick or treating’!!! He changed his mind and wanted to get an Aran jumper to be Liam Clancy but in the end went as Dracula!!! Anyhoo they will be in Clonmel Park Hotel Fri 10th March and his favourite song is “Bees Wing”. If you could say hi to him that would make his year altogether. So looking forward to hearing how much they’ll enjoy it I reckon it will be an memory for Pat and the boys they’ll talk about for a long time. Hope you and Declan and the crew have a great night in Clonmel. Looking forward to seeing you again sometime. These days 4711ers have been sending me songs about hares, and H Tralí insists that hares must run free like in the song tunnel tigers she sent me.John Doire sent me The Creggan White Hare then this somehow led me to discover Andy Irvines version of “The close shave”. Never heard of it before did you hear it? ,I might give it a rattle very funny song.There are many songs somewhat similar to it ,damsel of nineteen years old ,Caileach na Screebe, to name just two.I am also in the early stages of learning Cool in the Traffic(Padraig Stevens the bard of Tuam )
My other dadó (82) locally is one of the oldest members going to meeting .He is 45 years in the rooms “as he says himself” “The gardener song” tells about him.He broke his hand last week drives him crazy to stay inside.I like to be with him.

back home after once again a fantastic but too short holiday in Ireland. I’ve said it here before I think, but you are truly the nicest people on earth. The way we were treated so kindly, surprises us each time. You, your crew, Hilary and other 4711-ers, the local people, give us always such a warm welcome feeling, while being foreigners at the end. Thank you all for that.
We are so enjoying each concert of you, that we keep coming back as many as possible. And it was so nice to see that Lars enjoyed it even more, attending the gig as well as being in Ireland.
On Sunday, we hiked in Glendalough and on Sunday we walked in Blessington and visited Russborough house .
I think it was the very first time we heard you live singing Johny Jump Up. Well, If we live to a hundred or a hundred and ten, we will never forget those magic nights in Ireland. Thank you and see you soon.

I heard on the news that Southern counties yellow warning . t’is grand here… none of that goin’ on in this place … some rain not too bad, even though we usually get bad storms , gale winds , báisteach never any sneachta.Last storm , the trees fell and landed on the walls that are now supporting them… magpies , crows , pigeons , eagle , Caileach Dubh,seabhac are all flying off and investigating while dad tries with a chainsaw to cut up the trees… How’s the weather where you are a mhac?
Yesterday , I took a wander to see if there was grass growing on other fields for the donkeys… Was sittin’ on the wall , mindin’ me own business what came out of the Yellow Furze but a hare …. she was sitting there for about 15 minutes we just sat there looking at each other …then she flipped her legs , jumped , skipped and whatever a Hare does across the swamp…. I saw them before but not so close and for so long… usually they are havin’ a break, climbin’ a mountain or jumpin’ in a lake on the High Rocky Slopes of Connemara. I told my neighbor about seeing her and he told me shes there alright ..but then he told me that there is a black one living on a little island beside my field.I didn’t say one word but I know hes fond of the drink and maybe its a mink or an otter or an hallucination he is seeing.
Anyways I am glad to hear you are doing continental ceile again its one of those hard songs with lots of words to master like follow me up to carlow.

the Cratúr is the worst for the hallucinations….I’m 28 years away from it this month..one day at a time I give thanks for the sober life…..I know how your neighour feels….I remember one night I saw a huge badger about 40 years ago…I can still the look he gave me…I was driving back across country between Kilbeggan and Kilkenny, it was close to dawn as I steered my old red Renault 4L across the boglands…I often wonder was he there at all
