My first time ever doing this kind of thing, but I just heard The Tuam Beat, powerful. I have seen you at Macroom Mountain Dew, Cleos in Bandon, the Point, now I live up north, I have four tickets for Waterfront in September, really looking forward to it. I blasted your “Hey Ronnie Reagan” in the American Embassy in Addis Ababa on St. Patrick’s Day 1988 or 89, I thought they were going to escort me off the premises but the ambassador wanted more of it. I was short a good voice. Happy Birthday and many more of them. Really looking forward to the Waterfront and the New Album. Tá an séasúr fada agus dá bharr sin bíonn ort aire a thabhairt duit féin

it was quite well recieved in The Town Hall, New York circa 1984..in fact there was a bootleg cassette floating about for a while..I managed to purchase a copy off a guy who used to flog bootlegs out of a suitcase on O’Connell Bridge 30 years ago…shite recordings but he always had nice home album sleeves

Morning Christy,
A good start to the week, reading your comments about misunderstandings about songs.
A few years ago,on a gig ,we sang ‘American Tune’,written by Paul Simon. On returning to the venue,a few months later,a woman asked if we could play a song she’d enjoyed on the previous gig.The composer was forgotten – as was the title …but she knew the song mentioned vol-au-vents….immediately,we sussed it as ‘American Tune’….
‘you don’t have to be bright and BON VIVANT,so far away from home….’almost impossible to sing the correct words for ever after….
Happy Birthday Christy… Just back from the Bord Gais. Jeez you gave it socks. Fantastic show. Tis younger you’re getting boy!! Son was great with the harmony…. Seeing that you were in our neck of the woods it was great to hear you talk about Ringsend and ‘Lawless’ went down a treat with the crowd.
Keep her motoring Christy.
Regards

I always enjoy singing Mick Curry’s song “Lawless”…it has interesting and potentially ‘challenging’ aspects to it that are contained in very few songs….it has humour, disfunction, exploitation, unexplained violence, abandonment and the the closing image of the lost young child walking where “the Liffey flows into the sea….
I’m reminded of a night in Manchester over 40 years ago when someone ranted that “Lakes of Pontchartrain” was racist…all I could say was ” ye feckin gobshite”
another night in Longford a woman complained about the “Muslim” dress in Wally Page’s classic “This is The Day” ( them feckin muslins)
Best of all was the Texan lady in Castlebar who lost the plot when we played Morrissey’s “America,You are not The World”… the poor woman was apoplectic with anger and bile…said she intended to write to Time Magazine, that I’d never be allowed into America again….the promoter wanted to give her money back … but,as she had complained about one song only, I suggested he give her 1 euro 50 cent … we had played 30 songs..
Thinking of you, Christy, today and most days.
I played one of yours on today’s radio show
and let listeners know you’re alive and well.
May the birthday be full of cheer and good feeling.

Happy Birthday Christy! Seize the day (or the remaining hours) to relax and to celebrate your special day. I’m strolling through the bustling town, running against the Luas sites everywhere and looking forward to the birthday gig tonight. It was such a mighty gig yesterday and I can’t wait to listen to the Songs, to you and your wonderful band again.

Hi C.The current gigs and new songs are only mighty !!,,, and just three weeks til we hear the much anticipated new CD. The song Wallflower epitomises the consistent twin themes that appears to me to be fundamental to your work and Journey… the Balladeer as the carrier of news & chronicler of events but also the Activist… “You may disappear, you’re not forgotten here
And I will say to you, we will do what we can do “. To me those few lines say it all. Wishing you many happy and healthy returns of this day. Go maire tú an céad, agus bliain chun aithrí! Beir bua agus beannacht. H
