Happy birthday young Man……hope you are spoiled today.
See you by the Canal tonight , already great reports of you been “on fire” last night. Long may the never ending tour continue.
Still think a Boxed Set would be in order for all that unused Footage .
Ride on
Patsy.
Happy birthday Christy. I share it with you, eleven years behind, and will be there tonight, the whole family, all fans, me since 1975, them since they were born:-)
It’s been a long journey since the rowdy crowds in Rakish Paddys down in Longford in ’76 or the chilling winds at Lisdoonvarna in 1980. Long may you sing, write, bring great joy and be…Christy!

Rakish Paddy’s in Lanesboro what a great gig that used to be 40 years ago…thats where I used to meet up with “Jargon”..they were a real good band…and Joe Galligan who ran the gig was dead sound..always a lock in and all night Pool games with Joe and his brother Luke..great nights, often saw the dawn there…..then onto Lisdoon..Van The Man and Emmy Lou, Moving Hearts and Planxty too….Paddy Doherty and Jim Shannon ran some Festival there for 6 years…long before the current schimozzels were heard tell of
Good man christy.

I have acquired a donkey , She can be difficult enough.. she is refusing to leave the field she’s in to go to another field even though she has all the grass eaten.
Once she sees me coming with the rope she flips her legs and takes off with the speed of Shergar.

(PS) did you get cake?
Christy's reply
So far I got breakfast in bed…a lovely scarf, a beautiful card, I have a gut feeling that there may be a cake in the oven…
I had a Donkey once…myself and Norman,( my brother in law), we went to The Naul one Saturday morning for a few bottles of stout and a game of Pool… we came home that Sat night with a Donkey … he was a beautiful creature..he’d ate his way to Calvary and back…..
Happy Birthday Christy…… 71 just means you’re a mixed up 17 year old !! Headin to NamaLand for the gig . The talk of a singers cut of the journey is very interesting , I think we all wanted to hear more of the songs on the doc.
Christy's reply
A “Singer’s Cut” of the Journey project is still very much in my mind. Time alone will tell. There is a DVD pending that will carry both programmes plus extra gig footage. All that comes to about 10% of what was filmed. Thanks Marty…
This is the day when people around the world are thinking of you and wish you well, dear Christy … Uwe and I join in the chorus: Happy Birthday and many more to come !! Keep on doing what you’re doing and thank you for all the beautiful songs. Have a great party at the Bord Gais Theatre tonight !
Christy's reply
Thank you both for all your support and Good Vibrations.
Woke up to a Spring Shower here in Sligo. Then Mother Sun broke through the clouds piercing a vivid rainbow that arched from nearby to far off South East of here. May it touch down on you and your family, sharing a special birthday with you, Christy.
The Voyage continues with a new addition, Lily
Where did the name Lily come from, please?
Christy's reply
Almost ashamed to say that I’m still in the scratcher with the curtains yet unopened.
All of us Kildare folk are collectively known as “Lilys of The Shortgrass”.I have always assumed that the name came from our county colours being white. Thus the beautiful white Lily became our emblem. There is a verse on the album which goes:
“From Hawkfield and Kilbelin, Chinatown and Rosy’s Lane,
Scattered round the world we dreamt of coming home again.
From The Rocks of Sydney Harbour,The Bronx and Birmingham,
The Lilys of The Shortgrass are coming home again”….
From the people’s republic of Mancunium, the surrounding hills and all the places you still remember so well…..greatly looking forward to the Autumn gigs here.
Very apt that you have a Birthday gig and a chance for many to wish you well..
Have a great and busy day.,then hopefully, some rest and reflection time…
‘the man of May stands very still,to watch the children dance away the day…’
