Looking forward to seeing Christy and Declan tonight at the Usher Hall in Edinburgh and I hope to hear my favourite song of Christy’s, the haunting, Ride On! :o))
Many thanks Christy for a fabulous gig. This was the first time I have seen you live after being introduced to your music over 12 years ago by my Irish partner. We have never been able to match our schedules to your tour dates. You didn’t disappoint and played Ride On, probably my favourite of yours, as this was the first song of yours my partner played me all those years ago and it was amazing live. Thanks again for such a great night, I look forward to more nights with you, come back soon!
Christy's reply
Thanks Lizzie, glad that the gig lived up to expectation…what a beautiful venue
That was a brilliant night Christy ! Loved the unaccompanied song which clearly came from your heart(can’t remember the name) It felt like a privilege to be there listening to you. Thanks so much x

Would love it if you could play the Galtee Mountain Boy or No Time for Love and give a shout out to my Dad.
Up the Premier!

Hi Christy, thanks for the latest in a long list of memorable Phil gigs on Saturday night, this one will go down as ‘ the night they left the lights on’ second only to ‘the night Jackson Browne turned up’. I managed to grab a quick chat with Davey after the concert, he is a sound man in more ways than one. Good luck in Newcastle tonight, just don’t mention yesterdays Sunderland game and you will be OK. I am back at the Phil next Tuesday for ‘The Songs of Ewan MacColl’ to celebrate the release of the Blood & Roses album, Peggy Seega, Martin Cathy, Norma Waterson, Eliza Carthy, Seth Lakeeman and rumours of Mr Dempsey all on the same bill, we are in for a treat. I know you have also contributed to the album so any chance of you calling in to give us a rendition of Companeros on the rocky road to Hollyhead on the way home? Good luck to yourself & the rest of the team for the Scotland leg of the tour have a safe trip & don’t come home with a pocket full of Scottish £10 notes as they are a bugger to get rid of. John
Christy's reply
we were thrilled to get the call to play on that album…I have listened to it and there are many stand-out tracks ..could not make the up-coming tour due to prior commitments….yes indeed, the room was a bit lit the other…Fiona Bruce was in filming for an antique road show special..she is seldom on the box, we took pity on her
….never had trouble with Scottish Notes…The Scotia and Sandy Bells always sorted them out for me
I am an arts student from Austria, who moved to Edinburgh. Tomorrow I will visit your concert in Usher Hall. I am a big fan, as I started playing songs from Planxty at the age of six or seven, when I learned to play the recorder. My parents had a music group and all the members were like a big family to me. I know that you traveled around a lot and realized many different music projects with musicians all over the world. That’s why I wanted to speak to you about a project idea of an intercultural music exchange from Scotland to Zanzibar I had in the last weeks. Maybe you have some time to talk before or after the concert tomorrow? I am sure you have some advice on how something like that can be organized and who I might want to contact? 🙂
I would be very thankful if you have some time to talk!
All the best,
Esther
Christy's reply
Dear Esther…I have numerous commitments before and after The Usher Hall concert and cannot meet…I have indeed colluded with many of Scotland’s finest ………………….Mick Broderick, The Lagan, Whistlebinkies, Paddy Bell, The Corries,The Humblebums, Aly Bain, The McCalmans, Archie, Hamish, Josh, Wee Danny frae Paisley, Jimmy McGregor, Calum Kennedy, Dolina McClennan, Hamish Henderson ….
I’m not too sure about getting to Zanzibar but it does sound exotic..I wish you every success with your project
Played in Austria with Planxty way back in earlier times.visited the vineyards too
Hi Christy, for this Fri’s barrowland gig, could you please play the song of the same name for William Senior McLauchlan? He passed away last week age 85, a great Glasgow man & was a close friend of the family. Thank you sir.
Best wishes

Hi Christy, it was really a wonderful Gig in Philharmonic Hall in Liverpool.
It was a great pleasure for me listening too your songs and stories.
My wife suprised my with the two tickets on my birthday. Many thanks for the good music. I often play your songs on the guitar. Hope to visit one of your Gigs again in the future. Any plans for gigs in Germany!?
Christy's reply
I hear rumours on the wind…agencies are talking but I am often the last to know …I do fancy a stroll down Gooter Strasse…..
Evening Christy, can’t believe how quick the months have gone since the Waterfront gigs in Belfast; time really does fly by in the blink of an eye especially as you get older. A few of us heading over to see you in Glasgow on Thursday at the Concert Hall then up to Celtic Park to see the Bhoys play Aberdeen on Saturday. We have EVERY confidence in you Christy…..pity we can’t say the same for our back 4 on the pitch. I know you get requests all the time but would be greatful if you could play Biko Drum or Pair of Brown Eyes for the Belfast lads on Thursday. Thanks and take care.

Hi Christy, hope your enjoying your night off in the North East. Great gig at the Philharmonic Saturday night…loved every second as usual …”Does This Train” had me buzzing, and of course it’s all ways nice to hear a rendition of “The Hills” when your away from home (Thank You) …just back from Anfield, where the performance levels would not have been up to the same standard as that of Declan, Jimmy’s and yourself. Lots of work to do for Mr Klopp if the glory days are to return to the old stadium. Had a lovely morning though before kick off in one of the cities old ale houses..had a meet and greet Q&A session with 2 of Liverpool’s finest, the great Alan Kennedy and Terry Mc Dermott, now they were class footballers…had a great chat about the “74 cup final where both of them played for Newcastle against Liverpool…It was one of my earliest memories of the Reds watching it in Rodgers Hotel Killybegs with my Dad, and it was probably the reason I stared supporting them. Anyways I digress from the music, best of luck with the rest of the tour and good wishes to all your faithful followers who are tramping the road with you. I take my leave of Liverpool in the morning and head back towards Donegal, another memorable time spent in the company of friends and legends. See you soon …Love & Respect Martin Mac

there have been better days at Anfield…Tranmere are on the way up…Everton have their moments, here in Newcastle spirits are low….they are smiling round Roker, I’m a Blythe Spartan myself, ever since I scored there in 1968….also went to Hartlepool once, myself and Tony Capstick, sending joyful felicitations back to the old sod….day 5 and I’m a bit homesick…love to Hibernia….home next Sat Morning..one day at a time…
Hello Christy – my son Michael (age 16) and I touched down in Edinburgh today from San Luis Obispo, California for Tuesday’s concert. My wife is working on her Ph.D at the University and when we came last year to visit her, with a quick stop in Dublin, we missed you there by a few days. Not to happen this year. Bought the concert tickets before we had our flights. I’ve been hearing your melodies around midnight many days this past month coming from his room. (giving Dave Mathews some space). As we walked the Royal Mile he was singing Ordinary Man to himself and just now “away from the island….” as he settles down for the night. Thanks to your inspiration, we’ve been writing and performing Irish folk music together for about 4 years as a duo called Young Ireland and look forward to many more years sharing the Irish story through music wherever and whenever we can Tuesday will be an amazingly special occasion for us. All the best. Patrick O’Hara
