So looking forward to seeing you in Buxton, near to home for a change. Have followed you in Manchester, Liverpool and Newcastle N.I. All great nights!!
Would be amazing if you can sing The Voyage on Friday night as it means so much to us. Cheers Christy, see ya soon.
Christy's reply
lets see what way the wind is blowing across the hills
hi christy. i wouldn’t normally ask…please would you put ordinary man on the jukebox, at the philharmonic, on saturday. your song, your music has helped to heal the wounds of this (once) broken man. thank you. mikey
Thanks for the reply and I am going to make it up to Newcastle after all.
I love it in your concerts when you give some background to how you wrote or found the songs you choose to give voice to and how you mention with such care and in some cases admiration the people who have contributed their thoughts and feelings in song. It is a lovely thing.
I am the Carol that accidentally stalked you around The ring of Kerry when you were in Planxty!
I am also the sculptor that came to see you in Basingstoke. I wish I could add a photo to show you the ‘strangest lookin creature’ I made using dichro glass, copper and silver with inspiration from the flickering light.
Today I am singing Ordinary Man when I watched the news today. You said it so well.
If you have never been to the Barrowlands, can I suggest you get into Glasgow from the Airport, throw your bags in your digs and then take the Barrowlands pub tour which involves a trip to The Scotia Bar in Stockwell Street which features in the song.
It is the oldest pub in Glasgow (Est 1792) and from there make your way along to the Barrowlands stopping wherever you chose.
There are lots of good places to eat in the Merchant City and from there it is a short walk to the Barrowlands. I can’t remember if Bairds bar has reopened or not, but it is right underneath the venue.
One of my favourite memories of The Scotia was being in there and learning how to fix a greayhound race with the aid of a bit of sellotape which you attach to certain parts of a dog’s anatomy as you were placing him in the trap!
I also have a few memories of Westport – Toby’s Bar comes to mine.
Hope you enjoy the Gig.
Christy,
I wonder if you remember a gentle Dubliner called John Morrison? He worked at BBC Radio 2 in London for many a year producing Radio shows for the likes of Terry Wogan and Gloria Hunniford.
He met you a few times and said you were a lovely gentle fella, though his favourite story was about getting seduced in the back of a Limo by Jim Reeves’ widow .. but that is another story.
John, drove the Roadstone lorry and his brother Ken still places the piano and the organ in and around Dublin’s churches.
Sadly John passed away a couple of years ago …. but he loved a Christy Gig …. and may others besides.
Best to you all.
Jim
Christy's reply
good counsel there Jim….The Scotia has always been a good source of interesting information….
Christy's reply
“John Morrison” rings the bell…I once did a radio chat with Gloria Hunniford way back..perhaps John and I met then…those scenarios were always fraught and we would not have had time to hook up properly
All set to travel from westport to barrowlands next week, just to savour the buzz you talk about, there.unfortunately monsenior horans airport has no flights to gallowgate.never been there before, any tips…get in early! Brian
Good Morning Christy
When the Buxton gig was announced,I knew the date clashed with a long standing family event. At the last minute, this has been canned and its no surprise that the night is now a sell out.I’ve put myself on the BOH list for returns, but if anyone reads this and finds they can’t make the gig (you have my sympathy)and are landed with two spare tickets…..perhaps they could give me a holler here and we can resolve both our problems…….many thanks and all good wishes to you, crew and followers for the UK jaunt…….Dave
P.B.S….that’s it, all three. You need to get the Lisdoonvarna gig on public television during a pledge drive around St Patrick’s Day in the USA. It is your perfect demographic since it remains a hard copy (CD’s and DVD’s audience) versus digital downloads. You could of course “shoot the wad” as they say and accompany it with an East Coast tour of “Irish” cities like Boston (two nights at The Wang), New York (three nights at The Town Hall) and Philly, why you could even throw in the “City of Chicago” for good measure……think about it PLEASE! We’d love to see you on this side of the pond. In the last few years the Mountain has come to Muhammed. it’s time for Muhammed to return the favor. Fingers crossed……….
Chrisy: Can’t thank you enough for the dedication of Fairytale of New York you made for my friends last week at the Lisdoonvarna gig, they were moved, touched, suprised and thrilled…..not a bad night’s work hunh? Anyway thanks for doing that. The Driscoll’s were there to bring home the ashes of his ex-patriate mam to the ‘ould sod and your concert was one of the highlights of their trip. they had never been to ireland before. Oh yeah, one more thing, since it was filmed (I am assuming for a documentatry) and since I heard it was a special gig, how about releasing it in its entirety to DVD. Heck, it’s already in the can and lick of paint and a little editing and “Voila”!. You can give us all a Christmas surprise.
Anyway back to the real reason for my post, you never cease to amaze me with your little personal touches at your shows. You did the same for me at the fabulous Glengarriff concert a few weeks ago. Now what can I do for you?……………
The Fairytale Man
Christy's reply
what you can do Heff is keep listening, sharing and sending new listeners this way……..there is talk of various outcomes from this filming project ….but I keep well away from the cutting room…I’m happy enough strumming in the potting shed….I’ll let MGM, Columbia, Paramount, Warners, 20th Century Fox and Universal shoot it out in the O.K. Corral….I have a new album to record and a bunch of gigs to do…
Well it seems like I missed the Mammy & Daddy of gigs last week in the Royal Spa…I will listen to it later this evening once I have the washin on…I look forward to hearing it, and delighted so many of us got to see it…since the camera crew are still rolling , I thought of a brilliant idea strolling the blue Danube there..wouldn’t they only love to see you on a Radio interview with Irelands (if not the worlds) longest running folk n ballad show ? Congratulations on the Lisdoon gig and to all involved…nice one
Hi Christy I hope you are not feeling too bad. Sunday was traumatic certainly for 1st, 2nd and 3rd generation immigrants over this way. I am mightily looking forward to Buxton. And then of course the joy that is Barrowlands. I am bringing the smaller one as she is now old enough to get in the door. Hoping this one will be a ballad singer. The other one is looking at feckin planets. After this my parental responsibilities are complete. I will retire to Dungarvan and attend my bunions. xx
Christy's reply
the luxury of being able to attend to one’s own bunions should not be underestimated…that said, I believe Dungarvan to be blessed with some excellent chiropodists only too delighted to pare the feet of returned exiles..especially those with a propensity for Taj Mahal’s groovy tunes … see you above beneath the carousel of healing
I have been meaning to log in to this oul guest book for many years – there is nothing like procrastination!
I will be at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall to see you for the umpteenth time next week having been everywhere from way back in the days of the Mitchell Theatre in Glasgow ( some time in the 80’s ? ), to the Pavillion, somewhere in that foreign country called Edinburgh, and everywhere between there and the black hole known as the Forum in Kentish Town where the joker naffed off with all the chairs.
I have written elsewhere before that your canon of music gets greater through the years, but more importantly that I always leave a Christy Moore concert as a better person than before I came in.
I do not say any of that to seek grace, favour or whatever. It is just that I think that music and song – in this case your music and song – can sometimes show or remind us about the issues, the failures in our society, the points that need addressing, and the things that are of base importance in our lives — justice, fairness, love, humility, song and most of all laughter.
I will quit there before anyone passes the vomit bucket – but it is true!
Anyway – this post, as well as being an introduction, is also a blatant plug and a plea.
I write the odd short story from time to time and in that vein I will post a link to a brief one below.
It is the story of a young man i met years ago. He used to frequent an establishment in Albert Drive Glasgow that you may remember as I am told by others that you occasionally popped in on your travels.
The story is part of my effort to raise money for the homeless in Glasgow this Christmas and if anyone likes it the details of how to contribute are contained in the link.
Lastly, I wonder if you have ever heard the Glasgow story of Oscar Slater?
Take Care

Hi Christy
Great comments from Hilary and yourself about the support staff and their roles. No surprise that you have a well established crew, who will take pride in their roles ,pre and post gig.Everyone puts in a shift then there’s the magical on stage ingredient that takes a gig somewhere special.
There’ll be unanimous agreement in hoping that your musical journey goes on for a good while yet.Next week I’m seeing Dylan on his Never Ending Tour.Yours is closing in on him- I’d say you’re enjoying the ride more.and as far as I know you’ve yet to become a master of disguise when you’re ‘off duty’…..
Bon Voyage for your travels and long may you find the pastures of plenty.
Dave
Hi All. It’s great news to hear that the new CD will be recorded in the Royal Spa,,, I feel it is also the spiritual home of the 4711ers,,,the gig on Weds epitomised all that is good about the gigs,,,,the songs and their various connections, the connection between Declan and Jimmy and yourself,,, and then the reaching out to connect with the audience ,,,,,and those connections rippling out into the universe…to absent friends, or so it felt to me. The preparation, the attention to detail, the way the crew prepare the stage and room, the effort to get everything right all helped to create a magical night,,, It’s a great space which seemed to me to be filled with positive energy,,, and to imagine it was captured on film, its going to be mighty !! Beir bua agus beannacht. H

recording at HQ….about time I say….we’ll have to watch the calorie intake…some serious grub comes out of that kitchen….
I agree with your comments about preparation..its a big part of why the gigs continue to roll on down the road..everyone cares..each member of the crew takes pride in the gig.. we all strive towards the same end….thanks for marking it,
Paddy, Mick, Davy, John,Dickon, Geoff (and their assistants) ensure that Declan, Jimmy and I have everything we need once the lights go down…we strive to be ready and to justify their preparations..
heres hopin it rolls on for a good while yet..I’m enjoying this leg of the journey
Hi Christy
Your song Flickering Light has been dancing around in my head for days now……not objecting at all as the images are delightful in fact they remind me of a blend of old cartoon I saw years ago and a light by a bridge one summers evening in France. I was wondering whether you would mind sharing your inspiration for this wonderful flight?
Hoping to Make the trip up to Newcastle to see you soon
