Hi Christy
Hope the packing is going well for another trip across the foam.
Happy to look back on the days when ‘the turn’ wasn’t recognised.Ever had a gig stopped when ‘the pies’ arrived? My favourite was having to cut our first set short for a meat raffle…….
A few years ago,we were playing pre gig music for Richard Thompson at The Royal Exchange Theatre.I took RT to the dressing room reception area.As he announced himself as ‘Thompson R,reporting for duty’,the uniformed guard leaped to his feet and saluted. Now, that’s a greeting…….
Good luck in The Phil,th’ills of Buxton and everywhere you spread the good vibes……..Dave

just been to Martin Wyndham-Read’s first Irish gig. Still singing beautifully, still the same sparkle glistens, we first met in The Upper George Halifax where Richard Collins ran a great Folk Club…later we travelled extensively around, Mixenden, Mytholmroyd, Luddenden Foot, Bradshaw,Keightley, Krumlin, Hebden Bridge and Syke Lane
Hello. I am Murt, I have been a fan for many a year. I also sing.Mostly Rock and Blues with my band. I also attend acoustic Folk sessions, and have a large collection of Christy Moore songs. My dream would be to have a cup of tea and sing a few tunes with the great man. I guess I will have to settle with listening. Murt Walsh

Hi Christy. We’ve liaised before, outside a gig in Hammersmith Oct 2006. I waited to have a quick word as I felt strongly about letting you know the Carholic priests’ distain when I mentioned my mothers wish to have your version of Wally Page’s, So do I, from the This is the Day album played. She knew she was ill with breast cancer for years and was open with me about funerals. Who she wanted there who she’d rather not. It was only going to be me and younger sister left. I was 30and was living in Guernsey, sister Deirdre was 28. Dad had died off a scaffolding in London years before. We liked a few wines to allow her to talk freely and she’d put on this track with the beautiful imagery of the curlew, the hills, the fisherman, and the elusive girl in the muslin dress. It took me to the west on a late evening in June. …He refused to play it in “His church” as you may remember. I was sad. Her only wish was for those images to be reflected on by the congregation. But no.
Next Sat, me my gorgeous wife and the two boys, (11, 13) will be seeing the show in Liverpool. I’d love to hear a rendition of that for my Mum which would beat any recorded version via the church PA. Many thanks. You would also sell out a good show in Guernsey. I’m in the folk club and would love to tempt you across in New Year. Many thanks for your consideration.

Hey Paul….thanks for sharing…it will be a pleasure…
what a story…such a miserable twit of a clergyman….all that should have mattered was your Mother’s wish, her Family’s request..it was’nt as if it was some Satan Metal she sought…I have experienced such guardians of the gates…its the likes of him that has emptied the churches and good riddance
Played Guernsey Folk Club circa 1968..played Jersey the night before and gathered Nancy Spain….still remember flying over Sark….gave up flying since
Looking forward to next Saturday night at the Phil. Another great night in store for all us ex-pats over here. Won’t waste time in asking for certain songs as I love all of them so will be happy no matter what. Great auditorium with great sound which combined makes for a great night again. Have to say prefer the smaller venues such as Rhyl a few years back and indeed Llandudno last year but you can’t have everything. Good look Christy, Declan & Jimmy but no doubt it will be to the usual excellent standards folks
Christy's reply
I love rolling into Liverpool and setting up camp…The Phil is a favourite venue…the seaside halls are fine but its hard to beat the great old City Halls where history and legend reverberates….my first gig in Liverpool was in Jackie & Bridies Folk Club in 1967,then The Spinners Club in 1968 (where the doorman would not believe that I was “the turn”)
heres hopin that all goes well back at The Phil
I am a bit late to the party in conveying my thanks for the great gig on Wednesday night, but I just wanted to chip in and agree with the sentiments expressed below. I can’t tell you how pleased I am to have been there. It was another special night in the Royal Spa. See you soon x

its never too late to party Liv….you were in good company….hope you are dotting the “eyes” and crossing the “teas”
Well Christy just want to echo all the other voices and thank you for another wonderful night in Lisdoon yourself Declan and Jimmy created a night of magic in the intimate setting of the Spa hotel it was great to be there amongst the loyal followers long may it continue keep it picked out

There you were, left corner forward, the smile on your face like Sunshine on an October day…we had a right gaggle of Songsters in from the four corners, Bullaune,The Kingdom, Timoleague, The Naul, The Far East, America,Derry, Roscommon, lotsa Dubs, Lily Whites,
Declan was hitting the sweet notes, Jimmy caressing the back beats, me in the middle as happy as Larry (Lar had to go to Hungary)
Always great to see you Iggy, hope you and your family are happy and healthy
Just wanted to add to what all the others have said here … It was indeed a privilege to have been in lisdoon last night… Thanks for a night that we will remember for ever… Thanks Christy, Decky, jimmy, and crew tony and Fiona

Such a special night in that special room in that special town. I think all of us that were lucky enough to have been able to be there will hold it in our thoughts and hearts forever. We feel very privileged to have been there to listen and sing along . Thanks Christy, Declan and Jimmy and everyone who made this possible .

Its great when we are all gathered so close together…that was a lovely few hours in “The Hall “,Lisdoonvarna. The Royal Spa Hotel has become a special venue for me…Paddy, Chris, Anne, and John Doherty along with all the staff there have created a home away from home for all the crew…..I made the decision this week to record the next album in that very room….
Can’t believe I drove the whole way from Clare to Derry today without the radio on – the buzz and vibes from last night carried me the whole way home. I don’t envy those documentary makers their task – can’t imagine how they will squeeze even a percentage of the essence of what you do into a couple of hours. Hope to God there’s at least a DVD with directors’ cut/ unused footage though a box set would be the business ?. Anyway, I’m sure they’ll do the business and I already look forward to the finished article. Thanks again for last night – we were in a special place.
Christy's reply
they tell me that there will be a DVD…they are great crew…I’m told that for project like this they usually shoot 20 hours for every hour that is used in the final cut…so far we have been in Newbridge, The Curragh, Belfast, Derry, Bellaghy, Clonmel, Ballyporeen, Inis Γarr, Lisdoonvarna, Doolin, Dun Laoire, Arklow, Carnsore,Green Street, Talbot Street, St Teresa’s Gardens, singing songs all the way…and they’re not finished yet!! some old songs have been dusted down, some new ones given an outing … I’m enjoying the process and meeting some great people
Thanks for awonderful night in Listoon last night. It was a night I will treasure for the rest of my life. A venue steeped in history. With Irelands greatest singer.go raibh maith agat Christy.

Looking forward to seeing you play the gig for Clerys workers tomorrow at Liberty Hall. I remember a benefit you did for Brittains Motors in ’72 where I was working at the time. In particular you sang Old Man’s Tale and the Ballad of James Larkin (Very fitting!) also you signed a badhran for me at Christmas a couple of years ago, many thanks for that!

getting in tune for tonight, wondering what songs to play,
Christy, still walking on air after last night’s gig in Lisdoon. Hard to put into words how magic the night was – the nearest thing to having you drop in to the living room and singing songs for family and friends. Amazing energy and atmosphere. Looked over at one stage and saw a girl crying and that set me off. Ten minutes later you had us in stitches. If even half of the rapport comes across on camera, it’s gonna be an amazing bit of TV. Really feel privileged to have been there. Roll on the new album!
Christy's reply
been playing that room on and off since 1979….it has a special place in the hearts of many …wednesday night was special…thank you
Here is the poem I wrote last night whilst I watched you perform
The singers hands ode to Christy
The singers fingers break song waves
The voice radiates out into heart space
The universe listens as words defy the loss in our souls
Strings hum under soft incantations of the song birds return
I thought I heard the crowds sigh as his tender voice elevates our silent cries
We hide in the magic space
Safe from harm today
The furnace woes of our dying world
Cease for these hours
Maybe our hands can meet God for a while through the singers open vowels
For secret angels stand at his back
Guiding poems that seem to make the stars fall as sweat beads on his sacred brow
I don’t know the words
I only know his face
Celtic warrior burning wild man expressing the soul of his race
Taking us home
Underneath the guitar and drums silent and sweet
The roars a passionate fierceness that nails the soft rhythm of the universal song
Stay awhile christy
Stay singing upon an eternal mountain of stars
Help me leave my quiet sorrows tonight
Bring me home to the old flame one more time
Where beauty tastes like guitar strings and the folk songs mark our time over and over and over
Amen

Hi Christy, Thank you for an incredible evening in The Royal Spa. I don’t often struggle for words but on this occasion I can’t seem to find the right ones, certainly not the one’s that would do justice to tonight’s performance. It was an absolute honour and privilege to be there and to be part of what was a truly memorable gig. Loved the couple of new songs and enjoyed hearing Cricklewood as well tonight. Post gig went well also in the wee bar you’ll be glad to hear. Anne, Kieran, Iggy, Marty, Scally all in fine voice ….A lovely poem also from Alan which captured the moment and the mood perfectly. It’s been a real roller coaster of a week for me Christy, some amazing highs. Thank you as well for reaching out to me tonight (Butterfly) that meant so much to me. Great to catch up with gang as always as well. Looking forward to seeing you in Liverpool next week …should be another cracker. Love & Respect Martin Mac

Don’t know how you keep doing it Christy, but everytime I think your gig can’t be surpassed, another comes along to top it. Don’t have the words to express how good that Lisdoon gig was tonight – something else altogether. Thanks to you, Decky and Jimmy, not to mention the crew and the 4711 gang.Safe travels on the mainland and hope to see you again soon. Keep doing what you do. Christy – it’s a special talent.
