After decades of enjoying ‘Hot Press’ on my visits to Ireland, it’s always great to see it mentioned here – and to read that it has recognised your contributions to music – well played, sir.
Not sure when it will be published, but HP will also be including a piece on the new Bob Dylan Center by http://www.annemargaretdaniel.com AMD’s insights are excellent. I’m hoping the piece will appear on her blog as well as many other fascinating articles on Anne Margaret’s website.
Have a great day and gig .

Comhghairdeachas C on the Hot Press Awards Readers’ Poll, great to see such a range of genres and ages there and in your illustrious company !! You have championed so many of these emerging artists over the years in your quest for a good song or singer. Between these HP awards, RTE Folk Awards and TG4 Gradam Ceol there is no doubt Irish Folk and Trad are thriving and now post C19 things can only improve more. Shine on, you are having a great birthday week ! Beir bua agus beannacht. H

Hello Christy,
I know that not many people on here go on Facebook but it has a few nice things that it does. It reminds you of things that have happened by bringing up memories.
Anyway, it was four years yesterday since your gig in York at the Barbican.
Its the same venue where the snooker UK championships happen, and my first Christy gig. I’m chasing you Hilary, I’m only 46 years behind you…
So here I am this morning, thinking about it and feeling grateful for the changes it started in my musical life.
I’ve taken up the harp and got serious with the singing. Started rattling the bodhran too. Good to be working again.
Got out singing and done a few solo gigs.
Nener thought I’d get a whole stage to myself. I need to ask you about this, I’ve noticed a flowering in your work since the solo stuff came back. A, freedom thing? Sorry, I digress.
Found a whole new country to explore full of amazing people and places.
Stood at the top of the, Conor pass and heard Liam.
Watched my husband take up the pipes.
And on it goes.
That night it was all about Reel in the flickering light and Dalesman’s litany.
I was so touched by your kindness in singing a local song.
I’ll stop now, apart from saying
Thank you.
Small word, big meaning.
Rebecca

Hello
It will be a total different way of traveling, taking busses but so much better for nature. I think prices raised all over the world not only in Eire.
Maybe some things are more realistic now? If things are very cheap there’s always somebody paying the price for it. We never fly with Ryan Air for that reason.
When I first visit Ireland in 1988 transportation was very easy, just stick out your thumb and 5 cars would stop and be happy to take you anywhere. Could try it again maybe? Pity I’m not twenty anymore🤔.
Anyway I don’t think you are going to drop dead instantly by eating a piece of chocolate😉
Looking forward to see and here you in July!
Greetings from a far to hot Belgium

I’m in awe of anyone who can take “one piece of chocolate”
Hope your trip goes according to plan
in the early 60s we hitched everywhere….
carrying an instrument always helped
when hitch hiking, the great flute player, Patsy Hanly always carried his instrument in a Fiddle Case which made it more visible to passing motorists
in the 50s,myself and Pat McGowan would hitch on opposite sides of the road…we were happy to go in the same direction as the first car that stopped….anything to get out of town
Hi Christy, just letting the dust settle on what was an incredible night at the NCH. What took about one minute out of your amazing concert has left a memory that will last forever for my daughter (your biggest fan) Penny Conboy..
Thanks so much, what a night.. Oz Conboy.
Christy's reply
I too cherish the memory…Penny gave me a lovely wave after “Sail on Jimmy”
Begob Patsy, ya get around to all the venues. “An Lar to NCH….”. I think you sang at the Dean Crowe Theatre choir here a few weeks ago too. I saw Christy a few times the National Stadium, three that I can account for anyway.
Christy, where was it one night, you arrived, a pub. The owner never heard of you. But you persevered. Put up your own posters and played the gig. Was it Loughrea or Ballinasloe?
Was Paul Heaton in The Beautiful South?
Christy's reply
It was called “The Log Cabin” it was the Summer before I recorded the Ride On album….the publican allowed me to use his Mother’s “good room” to get ready…there was a very small audience…the gig went well…I drank sherry afterwards
Hi C. I don’t know much about Paul Heaton, but certainly the drinkers in some pubs in Killarney enjoyed his generosity yesterday. In my humble opinion, & experience, Christy you are the gift that keeps giving every day of the year. You share your talents, your time and your views freely and with great generosity of spirit. You were so good to the young girl in the NCH the other night, handing her the prompt sheet. When you read that Tim Wallace flew in especially from USA for the cancelled INEC gig you played a song for him at the re scheduled gig and according to his own post on this precious guestbook you arranged for a copy of the gig to be sent to the USA. Just two recent examples among many. IF I want to toast your health on your birthday or any other day I am happy to put my hand in my own pocket. Slainte an bhreadáin chugat, saol fada, croí folláin, gob fliuch and bás in Eireann. Have a great year with lots of great gigs and enjoy the ever increasing listenership, it certainly started well on Sunday. Beir bua agus beannacht. H
Hi christy
I heard today that wonderful socialist and musician Paul Heaton celebrated his 60th this week by putting money behind the bar in 60 pubs ,for local regulars to have a few drinks ‘on him’ ,mainly over here but also with you in dub and on the west coast.
Not that i am suggesting it sets a precedent ,but next May the 4711ers will be on the lookout for 78s being given out in local record stores ,or free mugs of tea and brack in cafes around the place from the Rhine to the Teviot, the Foyle to the Mersey………she’s a perfect 10.

It was a surprise. 3.30pm and I was clearing out the day before’s hearth to reset the fire. And there was an ember glowing at me. 20 hours since I’d last touched the fire and off we went.
Liam was playing Queen of the rushes.
ps just checked the online supplier and 1960’s Joni Mitchell at the ‘Second Fret’ club is still available + a 1970 BBC radio gig with James Taylor, which is gold…D
Strange thing. This old raft really does feel like a community.
