Great to hear young Joni, via her archives release.
A few years ago, I got some of her mid 1960s live bootleg releases (via a well known online supplier).Struck by the quality of her performances and realised how hard she’d worked to be so accomplished so young. Several songs subsequently recorded on early LPs were in her gig set a year+ previously. This was only the start for her…’genius’ for sure…Joni is frequently played here, especially those early songs.
Have a good day
Dave

I just wanted to say that I had a ticket to your show in Galway on Sept 2 but knee surgery is coming up in July so sadness of sadnesses, I had to cancel my trip. Seeing you live is number ONE on my bucket list so please God, maybe next year!

Get that knee fixed
then you’ll be right as rain
Hi Christy,
Short journey from An Lar to the NCH last night, and what a privilege it was to be in that fine Auditorium, and you at full tilt. I was just thinking of all the famous artists that would have graced that stage and there we all were, travelling the journey with yourself. From the throw in you were on a roll, with one song rolling into the next with such ease. It was no surprise that you didn’t want to finish up…..no complaints from us in that regard; even if Burdocks was closed, we could find a 24 Hour somewhere. I must say the crew continue to carry out an amazing job with Stage and sound…….really adds to the atmosphere……..been at a few other concerts recently, where stage set up wasn’t near the standards of your crew.
Ride onn Christy
Best Regards,

you are spot on there Patsy…I work with a great team..every gig gets careful consideration and attention..we all look out for each other & do the best we can….great to read your comments about the production…..
its over 40 years since I was truckin around in a peugeot 404 diesel setting up my own HH speakers and doing my own sound from the stage..no lights or monitors back then….but plenty of porter….manys the night I stayed in the same Ballad Lounge and then had to face into taking the gear down in the morning..some of those lounges were a sad sight in the daylight of the morning after…but I was very happy to have them back then….

on second thoughts, thinking back, over 55 years ago, no van,no PA, just guitar and sleeping bag, much shorter list of songs, sometimes hitchin, sometimes bus or train, then came a 1956 VW beetle, then a Yamaha FG180 guitar, the diary began to fill up,

Its a great venue Dave … even greater when an audience like last Sunday’s fills the room…from the moment I hit the stage the atmosphere was uplifting..all nerves evaporated, all throat frogs canceled by passage-clearing adrenalin. (TMI?).
Up Up Up and away we flew…ye were a mighty gaggle..
thanks for being there..you and all that glorious throng… from 8 year old Penny Conboy to all the hoary listeners scattered around the auditorium
Hello Christy, its still the same, isn’t it, that powerful song.
I need to listen some more, it takes me ages to get tunes. https://youtu.be/p9p3N_KlYQo
Katie Carroll sounds like some woman. I wore an orange dress today to honour the sun. I usually wear all black. I like the feel of it.
The pandemic has taught us gratitude, hasn’t it. Sounds like there was gallons of it floating around last night.
Howdy Christy: a very happy un-birthday to you from Lewis Carroll & me.
Hoping you’re fit’n’well & full of sass & music
Best wishes,
Danny Harris, Australia way

I used to visit a wonderful Lady called Katie Carroll down the road from our house…she lived alone in a dark, turf smoke , single room… she dwelt in the distant past, telling me stories about old days when my late Father was a boy, always dressed entirely in black, always welcoming and in good humour, I’ve not thought of her for a long time ’til your reminder landed in from far away in Australia, good on ye mate
Hi C. That was one amazing gig !! such energy, so many stand out moments,Tyrone Boys was such a surprise !! was it a nod to the Maternity Hospital situation ?? that’s what occurred to me, Ordinary Man, the Well, Ring the Bells, Quinta Brigada, Nancy Spain was perfect after Dec 1942. Our mini gaggle were all blown away, it felt like Barrowlands which sounds absurd seeing it was the NCH but sin an scéal a bhi againn, go leir !! I want to be 77 plus a day !! Go raibh mile, mile maith agat. Beir bua agus beannacht. H

Long time since I heard Rawtenstall Annual Fair, memories of old folk clubs, now I just hang around with old folk.
I expect that song wouldn’t be considered ‘woke’ enough to be sung today!!Pam

Hi C. Trusting that you have recovered from the celebrations and the double seacht !! Not wishing to take from your triumphant return to the Ceoláras Náisiúnta but it was sad yesterday to hear of the sudden passing of Seán Garvey RIP. He also had a unique voice and certainly inhabited this South Kerry Anthem https://youtu.be/KlE8vBpdI3k Another Boy from Barr na Sraide imithe ar shlí no fírinne. There is a fair gaggle gathering tonight from Moate, Timoleague, The Hills, An Riocht and all points of the compass. Beir bua agus beannacht, go deo. H

Hello Christy,
Thanks to Dave for the info about the peregrines. This looks like the hub where you can get to everything https://calfalcons.berkeley.edu/
I hope that pesky bird has brought back the gnashers, or at least found you and emergency dentist with a lightening fast technician.
I was talking to someone the other day about crows. They said that they’d been feeding them and the crows brought them gifts. It was mainly rubber bands. Looks like they’ve stepped up into teeth round your way.
I’ve been thinking about Rory’s request for music suggestions, for his 14 hour walk.
What about turning it on its head and listening to what’s going on around you instead? Maybe record some of it too. You might get all kinds of different things.
Happy gig day!
Rebecca

I must confess lest spare gnashers start arriving in the post
The story of false teeth and thieving magpie was originally shared by the late Marty O’Malley in Maisie Friel’s of Miltown-Malbay 47 years ago this very month. We got a lock-in the same night.Such capers ad convulsions, porter and crack…we were so much older then,we’re younger than that now….
Hi Christy
Slightly belated happy birthday from sunny Bury 🌞, same month as myself. If I had a spare set of teeth you could have borrowed them, hope you can manage the cake.
Thanks for all your wonderful music, still longing for a UK concert. Pam
Christy's reply
the cake was soft & creamy …could almost have been sucked thru a straw….
maybe see you at “The Rawtenstall Annual Fair”
Hi Christy, like many 4711ers from all over the world I wish you a Happy Birthday! Hope you had a great day with your loved ones. Stay healthy, enjoy many great and small moments of happiness in the years to come with hopefully many, many gigs that bring all of us loads of fun…:-)
Keep on keeping on and let the music keep our spirits high!
Birgit
Many happy returns Christy.
Hope you got to spend time doing something wonderful.
We have just had our town folk festival last weekend after 2 years and it was brilliant to see/ hear great local musicians and to share that experience with others.
The Bromleys, a father, daughter and son were incredible and a group of young musicians called Granny’s Attic were really impressive.
Rory was asking for recommendations for his long distance walk.
We have always loved Gavin Clarke ( he did the music for This is England)
His album, Beautiful Skeletons is haunting and so beautiful.
He is dead now which also affects the way I hear his lyrics.
Hello dear Christy
A very happy birthday!! You are one year younger than my mother!
The frist of July we will see you in Waterford. Finally after two years patiently waiting. The prices in Ireland have risen like hell but nothing will keep us away. I hardly dare to believe it.
Would you like some chocolate? After two years abstinence?
See you soon enjoy your day 💋🎂
Greetings Chris

Gotta give that sumptious Belgian Chocolate a miss….I’m enjoying this old man life so much I wanna extend it to the max….need to shed some averdepois…an apple would do..
