Hi Christy,
During my first year in primary in the Patricans, Newbridge in 1970 my class was taught a song called “My little thatched home in Kildare” The song has remained in my head some 50 years later but to this day I have never heard any mention of trace of the song. I wonder if you ever came across it in your travels. I always felt it was penned for a voice such as yours.
Regards
Hello Christy,
The gig went well last night. I woke up on time, managed to get everything working. Coaxed the voice to sing and it all worked. Who’d have thought doing a gig at 2.30am could be so much fun. Once I got going I loved every minute of it.
Yesterday afternoon I thought to myself that I’ve been training my whole life for this. So now it’s just doing it. So I let go and let it happen. Muscle memory, autopilot, whatever, it took over and all was well.
Love it so much.

Very sad news about the passing of Nanci Griffith.Personal links as we’ve played some of her music at family funerals – cassette tapes of her albums were 90’s regulars in the car.
‘Other voices…’ is such a gem (first time I heard John Prine covered)and an accolade for Nanci, as Dylan played harmonica on ‘ Boots of Spanish Leather’.
She and ‘The Blue Moon Orchestra’ were brilliant live – my last chance was seeing her on top form in a London Feis/Fleadh marquee gig, a few hours before you and Declan played the main stage.
There’ll be some good music played today – poignant too. RIP NG.
Hello Christy Moore and friends,
You will probably have learned sad news of Nanci Griffith passing from this World. She and Dolores sing Hard Times Come Again No More on Nanci’s Other Voices, Other Rooms record. It’s always moved me.
Sad that Fairport’s Cropredy Festival is missing in action again this weekend…but, good news from the band – recently, they recorded a set at The Brasenose pub in the village, to be shown free on their youtube channel @ 8pm on Sat 14/8.
Good on the ‘ lads’…
Dave

a hugely influential Band…their sound inspired so many in their wake..I wish them well
Rory, interesting to hear you talk of Clive Langer, one of the founder members of Liverpool band Deaf School. They didn’t have much chart success but made some great records and a massive influence on the likes of Roxy Music, well worth a listern if you get a chance. Just got back from a couple of days up in Glasgow, the Barrowlands was looking a bit quiet after a long spell of inactivity, no need to get the cleaners in just, get Christy back there, he’ll blow the cobwebs off.the place.

Hi Christy
Just listening again to the box set – “Seth Davy” is wonderful. Have you ever considered recording it again in your more…..mature voice?

Learned that song from Jacqui & Bridie when I played their club in the mid 60s..brought it home and played it around Dublin..the late Danny Doyle had a big hit with it here in Ireland in the 70s..the title was changed to “Whisky on a Sunday”
Hello Christy,
I’ve always liked that spike thing outside the GPO.
“When all is said and done there’s a lot more said than done” is no way to live.
Here’s the recording of Dave Lordan’s The lost tribe of the wicklow mountains, from Lily https://youtu.be/6aQ6tc81mRY
I love what you’ve done with it.
Do you know the name of the tune for the last 4 lines please?
Not these lines but I have to quote them
Strong is my faith, strong is my Beat
Strong is my magic, strong is my Want
And wanting I will rise, up alongside them
Spinning into the mist, ne’er to be seen again
An email came from Badlands the other day. They’re selling something on cassette!

Easing into the day via another Stirling find…no idea why I’ve never previously heard ‘Hell’s Ditch’ by The Pogues – very glad to be rectifying my tardiness, courtesy of Europa Music.
What an ace album – amazingly, now over 30 years old. Produced by Joe Strummer. Another great artist, gone too soon. Joe would have developed some brilliant ideas.
It might not be Siam, but there’s a Summer feel here today.
Dear Christy,
A recently released EP that is worth checking out, is ‘in the half-light’ by the seriously talented Joshua Burnside ( from the North of Ireland) and the lark-like voiced Laura Quirke (she’s also performed with David Keenan).
Beautiful sound for a gentle dawn chorus.
Rory
Morning Christy,
Great to hear that Dave was boosting the Scottish economy , and up near Bannockburn and Stephen, kim and Molly the dog of ‘black is the colour’ video fame.
Record shops are such a joy, thumbing through the racks of vinyl will always be a favourite hobby ( after watching the sport of kings with old men in cloth and silk ).
Europa is a fine record shop, vinyl exchange in manchester is good too, but Cool Discs in Derry is hard to beat.
There used to be a super record shop called Spences in Hawick.
I can remember vividly walking through deep snow to purchase Sir Duke by Stevie Wonder as a boy, of spying Be Bop Deluxe’s ‘modern music’ in the sale window and getting down early the next day to buy before the hoards as a young teenager, and then the thrill of Machine Gun Etiquette by the Damned with its fab cover being bought with a small handful of pound notes a cpuple of years later.
I recall ordering singles like Clive Langer and the boxes from the chart list ( it never made the top 40) and going in from school lunchtimes to keep checking if it had arrived behind the counter.
Later i would gravitate there every time i returned home from university, and when i moved back to Hawick with work the draw of the vinyl shelves was always a saturday morning draw, even with kids in tow on the way to the park. It was the feel of the album, it’s huge presence and colour that became my addiction.
Spences also had a video hire shop, and the old fella in there always looked disapprovingly at you if you hired anything even the slightest bit racey, and when i hired ‘fillmore the last days’ with santana etc on it ,well i think i had my school tie around my forehead and i imagine that i nearly caused the old boy a stroke.
Back to shut eye.
All the best Christy

I missed out on a lot of recorded music…from 16 onwards my obsession was gathering songs to sing…that continues today…60 years on I’m still finding songs to sing..along the way I had passing phases of obsession with recordings…The Watersons, Waylon,John Trudell,Elizibeth Cronin, Nic Jones, Pádraic O’Keefe, I’d go in deep for a while but soon return to the neverending hunt…occasionally I’d try my hand at writing..not so much these last years..but that could all change tomorrow..
Great news that your album is on the production line.Good luck to Rebecca with the gig.
I’m back from a brilliant few days in Stirling, St Andrews and Dunblane. A tonic in many ways. As ever, the Scottish hospitality was heartening… thanks to many people.
Many highlights – from the magic of wandering Stirling old town to the heartbreaking simplicity of the Dunblane Cathedral memorial to those lost in the
1996 school tragedy – well worth an online search.
No gigs to report – but the find of the trip was an amazing vinyl/CD emporium in Stirling, ‘Europa Records’ I was spoilt for choice, but had a fine Anne Briggs find, then headed next door to a brilliant cafe (Unorthodox Roasters) to read the sleeve notes…life can be tough at times!!
Aaah Pearse Stadium on an August evening, and not a Ball in sight…… brilliant news.
Just one question, which way will we face the Puck Out?
Best regards.

Thankyou for all the good wishes on here. I’m back out of the bubble a bit now. This place is full of wonderful people.
thankfully we have a few scallywags too, an occasional ragamuffin the odd rapscallion and the oft forgotten ne’er-do-wells
