we’re still chasing one in a row….runners up once in my 76 year lifetime..but desire to see the Lily Whites carry Sam up the Main Street in Newbridge still beats in our hearts…
Kellie Harrington is everything a country could wish for in an Olympic Champion..I hope that Kellie and family are treated with the respect they deserve ….
Or ride on. It would be full of moorland and darkness, lashing rain, passion, the sound of hooves in the darkness, ghosts and windows. Wuthering Heights. Love that book.
It would be brilliant to have a stab at a video for lisdoonvara. Maybe an animation? Or Reel in the flickering light. We’d have to combine films. Joxer? Lanigans ball?

Jasus Rebecca you’ll have me worked down to the very bone
Dear Christy, There is a lovely version of ‘Grace’ doing the rounds on youtube this past couple of days by Erin Sands.

Morning Christy hope all is well I think I remember a video for don’t forget your shovel
Hope we are getting close to return to gigs and looking forward to the new album
Face the puck out

Morra Iggy, Rory beat you to it in the previous post….that video was conceived by Tommie Gorman (of Sligo Rovers fame)..he was in Limerick with the RTE news crew….I had a gig in the City and Tommie made it all happen….my only inputs were the battered case, the clock and the black pudding…I’m still contemplating my follow up video..
Of course the song itself was the work of my late friend, Christie Hennessy, who allowed me tamper (slightly )with the words….
Did you ever hear Christie’s first album ? The one one? a pure classic
Hi Christy,
The Lisdoonarna idea sounds fantastic Hazz, what a film that would be….sponsored by Majors and Porter.
In 1984, i will take a wild stab in the dark Christy without mr google, was the video Dont forget your shovel,it would have been fun especially digging a hole for enoch to crawl into?
1984 is such a wonderful book, Orwell was a genius. The 1984 film with the great John Hurt was excellent.
George Orwell’s writing were incredible, Down and Out as well as Homage to Catalonia ( of which Frank Ryan would be proud) etc etc.
Take care
Rory

will we ever forget what the French Chef did to that steak before putting it down on the pan in Down & Out..not to mention pissing in the custard…John Hurt played great in 1984 but its hard to beat the real thing…about 25 (ish) Christmases ago I was collecting the Turkey…John Hurt was in the queue, an affable and charming fellow…I read all of Orwell’s works in my teenage years..before television came and whisked me away..Hemingway and Steinbeck too…I had a great mentor..my much loved neighbour and boyhood friend, the late Pat (Paul) McGowan
Good evening Christy,
Declan Welsh has today released a new video on uchoob, however the good song is sung fully clothed in a ( presumably) hot shower with a bottle of shampoo as a mic.
I wondered if you had ever ‘performed’ a video for a song in an unusual setting, after all there could have been many opportunities
Dressed in a skippy the bush kangaroo costume , for the good ship kangaroo.
Playing a banjo on the top of Ben Nevis for Mandolin Mountain
Or
Swimming in yer speedos in a vat of porter for Delirium Tremens.
The mind boggles at the possibilities.
Regards
Rory

I made a video once….back in 1984….its still rattlin around out there….anyone remember it
Hello Christy,
At one gig, right before the off, I saw a guy with his arms full to bursting with cans of beer. They were crammed into every pocket too. He had smiles all over his, face. I wish I was faster on the draw with my camera.
Those tables in vicar street are very useful.

I’ve heard of that lad…the songs give him an awful thirst…but he loves the gig….drinks his 14 pints and listens quietly
Brilliant that you gave a shout out to ‘D’Unbelievables’…genius comedy and you’ve just reminded me of a wet day on holiday. My kids and their Slane cousins having a fun afternoon – cracked up laughing at a video of Pat and John in full cry.
Fair play for the closed bar policy – too many good gigs ruined by bar noise etc.
Have a good day
Dave

I’d play in a Yates Wine Lodge tonight if I got the chance…
did a gig in Dundalk way back …standing on the bar
David Geffen. I had to google him. So is he that famous? If I’d to google him. Seems he’s earned the ‘moulah’ over the years, lots of it. But to be fair he’s given lots of it back to music and theatre.
If we see that super-yacht appoaching over the horizon, we’ll arrange a safe berthing place.

The Donie Cassidy of Laurel Canyon..with one notable difference…
would thon super yacht make it thru the 13th lock…

40 years ago Moving Hearts used to play in Woodies…we’d stay the night and then head for The Hillgrove in Dingle…after Moving Hearts I played those venues Solo ….Club Cleo in Bandon became part of that South Western Circuit…..back then the Disco phenomenon was in full swing and some of us played gigs “before the disco” I recall meeting John Kenny in Bandon and being enthralled by his set which later expanded into D’Unbelieveables with Pat Short….later again went to see “I doubt it sez Pauline” at The Tivoli in Dublin..their shows became “a must see” ….in the mid 80s I was finding it very difficult to play rooms with open bars…made the decision to have a closed bar policy for the duration of the gig…met huge opposition at first, lost a lot of gigs and audience..the first major venue to come on board was the Gleneagle in Killarney.Maurice O’Donoghue decided to give it a go and over the next few years it became part of our gig everywhere…Most people accepted it….a few “thirsty ducks” still find it unacceptable which is fair enough…..
Hello Christy and All,
4 gigs! One in August and three in September. That’s the best news I’ve heard in ages. It’s practically tomorrow.
Right now we’re allowed to travel to Ireland as long as its Northern Ireland. It makes about as much sense as the rest of it.
I’m having fun exploring how the hammered dulcimer works. I managed to play a tune yesterday. Raggle Taggle gypsy. I’ve been experimenting with using different things as hammers to get different noises out of it. Chopsticks and spoons are both good so far.

Maybe would look like “Subterranean Homesick Blues”…?!

Just thinking about watching you disappear into a quiet space during gigs, during songs.
A good set of listeners is a powerful thing.
there were nights when you could hear the price of a pin drop

Sorry – forgot to say : on Netflix
Probably doubling up here – a mate of mine put me on to Jakob Dylan’s “Echo in the Canyon” (filmed around 2015, I think).
Recommended for 60s buffs – I loved it. About music scene Laurel Canyon LA circa 1967 – some great interviews & (for me at least) revelations.
Again- you lot may be on to this so apologies – the rest of ye? Hope you enjoy.
caught that.a while back..really excellent..currently looking at a Doc on David Geffen also on netflix
