What a shame Sandy died so young – I’d love to have heard her singing with Robert Plant like he did with Alison Krauss, a few years ago…also, with Christy – ‘Who knows where the time goes’ would have been ideal…
Dave/Christy,
interesting fact (or not) following Daves comments ref Sandy Denny and my earlier post ref Led Zepplins The Battle Of Evermore. The only guest vocalist ever to perform on a Led Zepplin recording is —– Sandy Denny on The Battle Of Evermore.
Thanks to Rebecca’s mention, I’ve ended up down a few internet ‘rabbit holes’ today, in the company of John ‘Jacko’ Reilly…
I’ve played the ‘Lily’ album many times. and every play sees me re visiting ‘Green grows the laurel’ for repeats… It’s captivating in tempo, as your measured delivery conveys the pathos so well…it’s one of the best songs to show your attention to detail and the fruits of the workroom.Epic…
Also, lurking on youtube, a pearler from a young Sandy Denny…’ Green grows the laurel’ – sung to the tune of ‘Once I had a sweetheart’ – very mature from a singer barely in her twenties- always a class act, gone way too young -RIP

I so enjoyed singing that song…you post caused me to listen again…. I love the song but I’m not totally happy with the performance ….
Hello Christy,
Listening to John Reilly this morning. I love the Once there was a Captain has a touch of Green grows the laurel in it. https://youtu.be/-ylw08XVEn0
I wonder how many songs he, had.

Derry man living in Galway. Was listening to your songs tonight and it brought me so much joy. Can’t wait til we meet again whether that be Derry, Galway or Donegal I’ll be there
Sky Arts, Joni Mitchel at 75 concert. A host of artists including our own Glenn Hansard have performed already.
See if you can find an article “Joni Mitchell at 75…” on an npr webpage. A piece by an Ann Powers, great writing.
I still have to reply to John Liverpool.

Fair play to Glen…he don’t let no grass grow beneath his Docs
fantasy cover version – you singing Richard Thompson’s ‘Pavane’…
Today’s stroke of luck… Record Store Day 2 and headed down to my local indie record shop (euphoria when it opened, after zero vinyl shops for ages). Took a chance on Bobbie Gentry’s bluesy/jazzy ‘The Windows of the World’ – pure class…hunch well worth following…
Any time you fancy sharing further adventures of Messrs Harding and Moore c mid C 20th, there’d be a keen audience…plenty of ‘hackling’, for sure…great times!
Hello Christy,
I just wanted to let you know that I borrowed some of the lyrics to Ordinary Man as part of a eulogy to my dad 20 years ago. Thank you for writing the perfect words to help me pay tribute to an extraordinary “ordinary” man.
Heartfelt thanks for your music,
Donna Faye

Hi Donna,
Peter Hames from Lincolnshire England wrote this song..he shared it with me 35 years ago and I had the good fortune to record it in 1986…it strikes a chord with many listeners….greetings to all Canadian songsters
ps
Great that you give credit where it’s due. Sounds like the Ministry of Culture is aiming to do the right things for all…I’m sure there’ll be excellent gigs asap.
Can’t remember when I last felt there was a hint of altruism from ‘leaders’ here… D

The Pandemic has been a godsend for seasoned spoofers
Loads of Post Offices here, now at the arse end of WH Smith stores. Too few staff for the workload etc…sad that classy buildings were deserted. I won’t even start on extra Brexit related paperwork/ the disgrace of lives being ruined by ‘crimes’ that turned out to be a duff computer system messing up the accounts… rant over – for now!
A new Jacko song is an appealing prospect – and always great to know that the Atkin is ringing…was it a Tak in the GPO? Ace sound and visuals for sure…to be rewatched after some shopping. Thankfully, no need to join the PO queue today!
O’er hills and o’er mountains I used to go
I slept in the woods where there’s frost and there’s snow
No anxiety ever came into me mind
So contented was Ramblin’ Robin oh
So contented was Ramblin’ Robin

I think this came from Mike Harding at the back of the ‘Icky works
Its the same here. Our local post office used to be in one of the cottages in the village, right next to the dusty Miller pub. Now the post box is painted black and the postmaster lives there but doesn’t have a job.
I’m sitting in a cafe in Brighouse eating toast. The cafes seem to be doing well.
What great pictures on the stamps you all look like superheros. Looking forward to watching the film later.
Good luck and joy with the new John Reilly. He’s such a carrier of treasure.
I ordered a bodhran fro Michael Vignoles this morning. The non tuneable professional model. I’ve been a percussionist all my life. Looking forward to getting my hands on it.

Oh that’s a question and a half. I love Adieu unto all true lovers.
Just ruminating on a hot summers day, cover versions you’d have loved to hear, Planxty >>> The Battle Of Evermore by Led Zeppelin.
got into Zepp one night in Brian & Sally Tozer’s after a gig in Hull
Hello Christy,
Is that the one you’re learning?
