Roibeard mo cara……I think we first met in Arklow a few years back….a chance meeting….twas great to see you back the other night….I loved the way the crowd welcomed your presence..and how both you and Eric responded to the welcome..
….every audience is a singular unique entity never to be repeated…..its the same with the set….certain elements are constant, others float in and out….two songs,”Strange Ways” and “Away You Broken Heart” were not heard once in 2019….both included in response to the tragic passing of Marian Finucane…..
then we had the pleasure of seeing Primula back among the fold….his beaming face lit up the night…..
and of course Herself , always watching out for stray listeners, always there with the helping hand (or ticket), sharing her “céad míle fáilte” to long haulers, always prepared to prompt when the balladeer becomes perplexed in song….

Howdy, Christy! Declan, too! Happy New Year! Deadheadbob from Texas here. A Christmas miracle occurred when an Irish Angel scored a ticket for me to the 3 January gig. Congratulations on a superb run of December shows. I’ve loved listening to the latest live albums back home and on my travels to Eire. Looking forward to seeing you tonight!

Hi Christy, Happy 2020 ..I captured a song by my first intro to music Rory Gallagher a track called 2020 vision and wish you the same.
I was not sure you replyed but my son Rory sort of took over from Phil Beer, fiddle player and wonder if you know Phil – well established with band “Show of Hands” in UK.
Christy's reply
I have heard “Show of Hands” and know the name Phil Beer…I have listened to his music but never met the man…
Tonight is our Dad Mick’s birthday – and as has been tradition for the last number of years – we’re going to see Christy in Vicar Street to celebrate it. So thanks for being part of it every year!
City of Chicago is his song, and we’re all looking forward to singing it again with him tonight
Christy,
Happy New Year! Two years ago to this day you truly changed my life. I’d written on the guestbook here about your inspiring me to finish a journey that my great grandfather, who’d been orphaned in NYC, was never able to complete; returning home to Tipperary. Indeed I did and discovered my GGG Grandfather had died in the Tipp Workhouse and was buried in a mass grave in St. Johns Famine Graveyard there. You gave me the greatest gift, singing Cliffs of Dooneen to me at Vicar St Jan 2 2017; it was an incredibly moving, atavistic experience; I felt my ancestors right there with me. At the end of the song a man behind me put his hands on my shoulders and said, “welcome home”. Since then your music has inspired me to keep going on in my own career as an actor, teacher, and film director. Last year, I completed my first documentary film, about the man I’ve worked with over the last 16+ years, renowned American acting teacher Wynn Handman, who is still teaching at nearly 98. The title of the film is, It Takes a Lunatic. With the guidance of Michael Douglas, it premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival, was acquired, and is now streaming on Netflix. Aside from teaching many very successful actors, Wynn was a pioneer in establishing NY Off-Broadway Theatre as we in the USA know it today; however, he did not wish to produce plays solely for commercial purpose or monetary gain or fame, he wanted to produce plays that awakened audiences, brought voices worth hearing to the stage, and challenged audiences to know something better about their fellow man. In 1962, the lawyer overseeing the incorporation of his theatre, The American Place, said, “It Takes a Lunatic to do what you’re doing. Are you the lunatic?” He said, “Yes, I’m the lunatic.” Hence, the title. In the credits I thanked you and Liam Clancy, as you both have been and continue to be a steady creative hand at my back. Wynn often says that you never know where the creative act may lead, which is a significant theme in my film and something that you’ve written about, the link btw us all. Before the Deluge says it, too. I just wanted you to know your role in inspiring my creativity and in helping me to solidify Wynn’s contributions to theatre in America. Thanks to you, also, I’ve just spent the last several days in Clare, absorbing the geography, music and traditions of the region; Milltown Malbay and Willie Clancy, Kilfenora, Ennis, Ennistymon, Doolin, Lisdoonvarna, Lahinch, Corofin, Liscannor, etc; so much of the soul of Ireland’s music, myth, and poetry seem to reside there. It’s palpable. And now here in Dublin, looking forward to seeing the gig tonight. Congratulations on the success of Magic Nights and, again, thank you for helping me “keep my spirits high”, through your music. You are an exemplar. In America (and around the world) it’s increasingly difficult to find true exemplars; as Shakespeare once wrote: Thanks, Thanks, and ever more, Thanks. Feels good to be home. Billy Lyons NY, NY

I get it from Liam O’Flynn, Patsy Cline, Dolores Keane, Dolores Riordan, Tommy Potts,Chris Wood, Lal Waterson, Ewan MacColl,
I can neither define or analyse, why bother, I just plug in and let it flow, we all have our own source, those of us blest with ears that can hear…some gain it from a source that may cause others to wince…thats part of the terrible beauty…

At least in my head, it does. Well done on a fine 2019 Christy. There are lots of us dotted around the world – and many in Ireland too – who take great comfort in Christy Moore singing the songs we love. Many thanks. Ride on.
