Hi there Christy
been catching up on the posts. Some really interesting reads on hear and clearly your never ending tour is going great guns. My dad is 95 now and still fondly remembers the message you sent for him on his 90th birthday. He still defies us with his health albeit we have the odd scare every month or so.
‘I’m crossing the water next week to attend a wedding in Co.Offally Wiil be stopping for refreshments early Thursday morning on the N7 if anyone has any recommendations for a fry up. I certainly wont be paying 15 euros for a bowl of stew like the b****** caught me out with in Galway earlier in the year . Will be taking a ferry for the first time to Ireland in many years. It has made me think about my dad taking the opposite crossing over 70 years ago to begin a new life here with my mum. Only never ending circles in life. Anyways,
The best to you and the folks
Frankie

I finally got tickets for the 17 aug.looking forward to sitting back and watching you do your magic.maybe ill learn something. And hear a few christy standars.
Good morning Christy,
From Edinburgh castle with paul weller to a back room with 40 others on pollockshaws road, glasgow with matt mcginn but both equally good.
Some of the places you listed playing would be like the small glad cafe ‘dungeon’ last night ,but it was a stroke of luck that took me there.
Grabbing a handful of cd’s in a 2nd hand shop a few months ago i picked up matt mcginn , scotsman of the last century who’s path you no doubt had crossed ,but when i got home i found that, by mistake, i had picked up the cd of matt mcginn from this century and the north of ireland.
I gave it a whirl on the spinner expecting disappointment but to instead find great joy from a wonderful album by a top class song writer ‘end of the common man’ is the album.
So i nipped up to Glasgow last night and with one of the kids really enjoyed his show, he is well worth checking out by us all. What a lucky find!
It must be so hard to make the break through as an aspiring musician but a chance purchase has created a few new Bannerman followers to help him on his way.
I wonder if there is another singer out there also called Christy Moore (or Mary Black or Freddie White says he) who will get a wee break of mistaken identity one day ?
All the best
Rory
Christy's reply
Usually I can rattle off a response to a post in an inst ….this is my 4th attempt to reply to you Rory….dont ask me why, just cant get a flow of thought going…Yes, I did hear Matt McGinn way back…heard him in a Folk Club in Manchester and later,I think, in Glasgow. He was unique and uncompromising. Did not get to meet him. I believe his singing played an important part in the emerging Glasgow and Scottish Folk Revival.
Paul Weller has surely earned his stripes…like Matt McGinn (the elder),He has stood his ground and remained “his own man”.
Heading for the Home Turf today…back to the Short Grass….tonight I sing on a stage 14 miles from where I grew up….in the 60’s “Dreamland” was our “Barrowland”….we would cycle across The Curragh of Kildare to dance the night away beneath the carousel of healing (Wally !) Its an exciting prospect for me..to jitterbug and boogie the night away where we heard Brendan Bowyer&The Royal, Des Moore&The Capitol, Prince Vince&The Regent,Billy Brown&The Freshmen, Bridie Gallagher, Johnny Cash, Dominic Behan and all those who graced the stage
Hello Christy,
Greatly looking forward to your concert in Athy! I am the eldest daughter of Tommy and Kathleen Boyle (of Rotherham & Castlecomer), and shall be over from Leeds visiting Dad’s cousins in Comer. I first encountered your good selves in the “Lakeland” in Mullingar, it then became the “Horizon”; its now a Lidl supermarket…Progress???. Here in Moate we had the “Roseland”. I met my now wife of 37 years there at a Joe Dolan dance. Strangly we now live about a Hundred meters away from the original site………. all thats left of it now is a blank space. Great memories of yourself in the Auld Shebeen; packed to the Rafters, plenty of Smoke and Sweat………. ah those were the days. All the best with the “border” gig tonight.
