Hi Christy, I’ve had the joy of seeing you twice so far in my lifetime, in Vicar street and my local theatre Glor in Ennis. Both were spectacular nights, Yourself and Declan on the guitar make a night become special and I hope to see ye many more times.. “Motherland cradle me, close my eyes lullaby me to sleep, Keep me safe, lie with me stay beside me don’t go.” is a lyric that hits home whenever I’ve been away from Ireland for a time.. You must come back to Clare soon where you’re loved dearly, whether that be to Lisdoon or to Ennis, we’d love to have you back. Keep doing what you’re doing Christy and hope the family are keeping well
Christy's reply
Hoping to return to Glor but its very hard to get dates there….
Hi Christy, thanks for the reply. How about a submarine? My friend knows a guy. I’m sure we could get The Donald to accompany you. I’ll book him a nice Suite with a balcony . Take care
Hi Christy. You were going to try to look up for me, where the folk club in Chatham was that you got Don’t Forget Your Shovel from in 1969.
Not a problem if you couldn’t, you’re a very busy man!
All the best. Dermot
Hi Christy, my Azerbaijanian friend loves the sound of that one line “ I am young and beautiful “ as I always have. He picked it out though without my influence: ). I’ll see if I can get him to love a few more of your lines. Would help a lot if you came here though. God bless x
Christy's reply
I’d love to go back there myself…The Donald was on to me again last week goin mad to get me out there again,
I stopped plane travel 20 years ago…The Don said he’d sail me out on The Queen…I looked up that ship but thought I’d rather be on The maidstone for 6 days then stuck in that fuckin pub-shoppin mall-jacuzzi

Thanks for your reply, my youngest memory listing to you I would of been about 5/6, I’m now 31 and it has genuinely made me smile from ear to ear the fact you wrote back to me, you honestly have no idea how much it means to me, it’s very interesting and humble of yourself to think about all the work David and the lads do behind the scene, I’m sure it’s something alot of us take for granted until we auctlly think about it. I’m a chef by trade and it reminds me of the kitchen porter, not on the pass plating up a steak, but he’s behind the scenes somewhere and without him nothing is possible,
Thanks again and I’m looking forward to your gig in clonmel in September.😀

Dear Christy,
I had the joy of attending the gig in the National Concert Hall on Wed 19th June. I got a ticket for my dad and we both sat in the front row, beside who we later found out was Pete St. John. I have to tell you what a special night that was for us.
For different reasons, we haven’t spent that much time together over the years. So it was really something for the two of us, singing and laughing and sometimes just listening, truly in awe of your talent.
We both shook the hand of the man who wrote The Fields of Athenry on our way out too! Dad told him what a fan he was and I smiled I can tell you!
We loved every minute from the first note to the last. It will stay with me for a long time.
Thank you Christy! Grá

Your post reminds me of how much I would love to have attended a gig with my own Father….I wonder was he himself ever at a gig….he died in 1956 when I was eleven..
The National Concert Hall gigs went very well this year. Having Pete St John there made that night special. He has written some beautiful songs. I loved it when the audience rose to greet him and acknowledge his presence….
Thanks for sharing
Hi Christy, I saw you a few years ago in the marquee and I swore it was the best I’ve ever seen you, yourself and Declan and the rest of the gang absolutely blew it out of the water on Saturday(my girlfriends first time Seeing you) we were sat at the very back and we might as well been up the front , goose bumps from start to finish, was lovely doing the fairytale for the gang from NYPD, anyway thanks for all the memories so far, we will be making more in a few weeks up in clonmel, booked and ready to go 😀see you at the park hotel

Hey Jayjay,Thank you for your review. The fact that you were at the”very back” makes it all the more welcome. The Band and Crew work long and heard to get things right. Our Sound Engineer is David Meade. We have been working together for 17 years now. He plays the Sound Desk like an instrument and is effectively a member of the band. For me , as a singer, its important to know that whatever way I sing, be it roaring loud or crooning soft, David will amplify the work into the every corner of the Marquee, Concert Hall or Club. Last Saturday night, some songs were whispered, some were blasted out…occasionally gremlins will arise during a performance…then David will have Dickon,John,Mick,Paddy and Geoff at hand to get everything back on track….they do all they can to support Declan, Jimmy ,Cathal and I in our endeavours
Hello Christy. Thanks for a superb concert at The Tent on saturday night. It was to me your greatest night at the tent .The place was buzzing from the city of chicago to the very end.Friends of mine who were there were blown away by YOU.Thanks again for a memorable night.Let the music keep our spirits high.

Great session last night in Cork Christy. Its our annual pilgrimage to the Marquee and it restores our faith in humanity. Good people having the craic with great music.
And just to top it all off, a fellow Cobhite on stage, good girl Vickie.
What a night, thanks.
HI Christy,
Amazing show in the marquee last night, sounded like I wasnt the only one who wanted to celebrate the “Brigada”. Thanks for a great evening.
Christy's reply
The audience singing last Sat was so uplifting…I’ve always reckoned that The Barrowland Choir in the East End of Glasgow was beyond compare….but Saturday night in The Marquee,Cork was the equal of anything I’ve experienced..Ye really excelled yourselves this year….Myself, Declan, Jimmy,Cathal and Vickie were raised up by the great welcome we got in “The Blood & Bandage”
Great too that The Marquee gigs continues to resound to such a variety of sounds. . Amazing to look back over the roster of performers who have played the venue over 14 years (despite all the efforts of one greedy Corkonian who seems hell bent on closing it down….I’m advised that I should not name him but I’m sure ye know him well )
just listened to a recording of “Brigada” from Saturday night…sounds like we were accompanying the audience…

Recently I revisited a doc about the Manchester Music revival of the 80s with Morrissey,Johnny Marr,Happy Mondays, Stone Roses,Charlatans,Oasis, Buzzcocks et al..great creative energy in the City with the hacienda being the focus point..
in my minds eye I compared it to the energy I found there in the 60s, all the different elements that came together as the Folk-revival genre was assimilating, much of it centred around the MSG Jenks at the helm…Bob and Pete on the door
there were other hotspots around the City too, PJ Proby,Karl Denver, the Showband scene around The Carousel
I also met up with Dessie Donnelly in Midleton, Felix Doran in Salford, The Grehan Sisters in Hyde, Packie Manus Byrne in Ardwick Green…some of those who were keeping Irish Traditional Music alive in The United City, my home away from home for good years
I also remember Dylan’s “traitor” moment in the old Free Trade Hall ( surely a mis-nomer if ever there was one)
Hi Christy, my dad is one of your biggest fans. He has your tape in his car on permanent rotation and always talks about the time he travelled to Ireland, to attend one of your concerts, many years ago. He is a New Zealander, and soon turning 80 years old. It would mean the absolute world if you were able to send a happy birthday video message. His name is Mike O’Malley. Thanks for providing dad with so much happiness over the years listening to your music – especially Lisdoonvarna, his favourite. My email is kat.cayley@gmail.com

Another great night by the river Shannon last night. With your starting with “City of Chicago” the Radisson choir straight away got into full flow, it must have felt like a goal start for yourself and the band. Interestingly with controversy going on in Spain as they want to exhume Franco and rebury him in a different location, “La Quinta Brigada” got a rendition. “Blazing Times”, “Sail On” and that new song “Ringing the Bells”, all great.
