Hi Christy, I was a bit disappointed that you didn’t reply to my last message, I’m sure you get lots of requests and hard luck stories but I am very desperate to speak to you or even one of your agents or manager if you have one, I don’t want to be posting full details here, but can you plz plz plz contact me, my number again as above, 0897022805….
That’s a good point that this Viago set up operates behind the anonymity of a computer screen and making money, big money, by exploiting the demand in a particular market. So one wonders if they’re operating in this jurisdiction can be operate or flout UK law which may(?) have deemed above face-value selling illegal. And it being grant-aided here?!
Several years ago, when FG still in opposition, backbench TD, Denis Naughten moved a Private Members Bill outlawing black market ticket selling. The then government didnt back it, they said they themselves were going to bring foward legislation. That government eventually went out of office. Noel Rock is the current chap “carrying the torch” as regards getting such legislation passed into law if he can.
Someone’s just told me. Name of that site was “Seatwave”. Our esteemed Ticketmaster friends were selling tickets online on their usual webpage. The same tickets were turning up (miraculously) turning up for sale on this Seatwave website for hugely inflated prices – the two websites getting commission each time for the two ticket sales. Am informed that “Seatwave” website is now gone. Proper order.
Christy's reply
you mention 2 TDs ….I know that Noel Rock TD has been looking into the activities of Viagogo…perhaps you could share the name of the second deputy…
Unlike the ticket scalpers, who ply their trade outside events in the full light of day, Viagogo hide behind computer walls as they carry out their greedy exploitations…it is shameful that their practice goes unchallenged…
anyone out there know where their Irish operation is located?…I’ve also heard that they recieved Government Funding for their set-up here..any info ? who applied for funding on their behalf ?
PS Just discovered that (Fine Gael) Minister Richard Bruton and the IDA were enthusiastic sponsors of ViaGoGo who are located in Castletroy,Limerick
It was wonderful, Christy, to hear Spancil Hill again last weekend in London, and it got me wondering if you have favourite songs Christy?
Perhaps, like us ,your fancy for a song changes from month to month, indeed as the set list evolves from gig to gig you perhaps love to sing a song more until it has had it’s time ,and then you fall for it again a few years later. The mind is a mystery, i cannot remember sometimes why i went into a particular room ,yet i can recall the lyrics to a song that i hear for the first time in twenty years whether it was once a favourite or not !
i declared to some friends recently that declan o’rourke’s ‘poor boys shoes’ was perhaps the best folk song written in 20 years, and i probably exagerated but i suspect in 20 years i will still marvel at it’s beauty and sorrowfulness of truth ,but in 20 weeks i will have a host of other songs that i am then more entranced by. however i will always treasure the real ‘fab four’ of joxer, if they come in the morning, lisdoonvarna and yellow triangle.
anyway back to the favourite songs, do you have a couple that are always there that you adore come hell or high water, or does it just vary from year to year?
regards
rory

Bogman
Duffy’s Cut
The Contender
The Time Has Come
On The Bridge

I never got to do your request in London….there are nights when I simply cannot get the shoe to fit……I had Giuseppe and Broken Heart on my wish list both nights but the right moment never arrived
Only 4 from the 20 above made the cut…..
Its a process I neither understand nor analyze….
7 from the 20 above have not been in the set for years
the only constant in recent times has been the opener
My Brother’s song is perfect for settling Band and Audience
Therd has been efforts by at least two TDs to enact legislation to outlaw above face value re-selling of tickets. Then you had the situation here of a site, owned by Ticketmaster itself, operating side-by-side with Ticketmaster offering tickets for the same event at hyper -inflated prices. This occurred at some high premium events in Dublin that had quickly sold out. The U2 concerts was one such event. Not sure is that site gone now.
At least the two got into the gig, albeit paying an inflated price.
Hi Christy. Apologies I didn’t realise I didn’t write his name! His name is Diarmuid Moore. He loves the song Lisdoonvarna & Politicians! And he’s mad into Gaelic football! Thanks so much it would absolutely make his day! Keep up the good work absolutely love your music !
Hi Christy,
My brother and I went to see you at The Royal Festival Hall on Saturday and it was absolutely brilliant, had a great night.
Just something I wanted to make you aware of, my brother was desperate to see you and bought the tickets online from Viagogo, realised when we got the tickets the face value was £40 but he had paid almost £ 250.00 for two tickets!
Christy's reply
Viagogo are rip-off merchants..there are moves afoot to criminalise their activities..I hope you realise that no artists benefit one penny from these activities ..our fees are based entirely upon the publicised ticket price…I deeply regret what you have endured, all I can say is
FUCK YOU VIAGOGO…. AND ALL WHO COLLABORATE WITH YOU….
Finally got to see you in London on the 24th for the first time. The show was fantastic and a special night for me and the wonderful girl whom I have bombarded with your music for the last 7 years. I’d dare to say she enjoys your singing just as much as I do now.
Particularly enjoyed hearing burning times. I work in the forests and countryside I love and it can be all to easy to become jaded by the way people abuse the earth, I left the gig renergised, feeling a lot more hopeful for the future
Thanks for a great night
Danny
Christy's reply
Thank You Danny…..may your Love resound and your Forest thrive
Hi Christy. My 6 year old son is mad about your music & I got him tickets to go to your show in Athlone in July with his Dad. He would absolutely love to meet you if this would be at all possible? If not could you give him a little shout out from the stage? He watches your DVDs alll the time & plays along on his own guitar. He’s even managed to teach his 3 year old sister the chorus of Lisdoonvarna!
Christy's reply
lets see what happens….very hard to give the lad a “little shout out” when I dont have his name!
Hi Christy, bit of a long shot, but if you could please contact me I would be very grateful, I have a very sick nephew who’s dying wish is to hear you sing, he is only 28 years old, we are willing to pay you even for an hour of your time, we appreciate how busy you are, please contact me if you can, yours truly, Sheena Berry…. 0897022805
Hi Christy,
Thank you for a wonderful concert at the Royal Festival Hall on Saturday. I have written a review on my blog site if you would like to read it. It is here, https://patrickmaginty.blogspot.com/
All the best, Pat.
Christy's reply
Hey Pat,
Thank you for taking the time to post your review, for your ongoing interest in the work.
In 1966 I walked from Gunnersbury to Fulham Broadway hoping I might get the chance to sing one or two songs. I got my chance and sang “Follow me up to Carlow” and “The Curragh of Kildare”
Concerts like these (at RFH) were far beyond my wildest dreams.
Thanks for a magical night at the Royal Festival Hall on saturday night.
A wonderful nights music and song. The raggle taggle gypsy was unreal.Roll on the Tent by the Lee.It was an honour to be sitting in front of you while you sang to us on saturday night.Go raibh maith agat .

Evening Christy-
i hope this finds you well- looking forward to coming to Ireland Thursday, and delighted to be catching the Sligo gigs mid June.
Had the pleasure of taking a class with Dave Lordan over the winter- your work was mentioned frequently throughout. Tough work to keep up the man- pretty much a force of nature.
Ok- see you soon, be well, catch you in Sligo…. x kathleen

I love to sit and listen to Dave Lordan…the flow of words always carries me along
Thanks for a great night at The Royal Festival Hall, Saturday 25th May. You and the boys were on great form and the atmosphere in the room was amazing, I have seen you play here many times now, but last night the place was rocking !
Le meas Christy,
We are traveling from California this Summer and have tickets for your Galway show. Our most treasured album is The Spirit of Freedom. Could you please sing a song from it…Forever On My Mind, Peoples MP, or Boy From Tamlaghduff, are our favorites. Go raibh mile maith agat. John and Sally McNally.
Christy's reply
OK Sally McNally, lets see what way the wind blows in Galway….
I played an H Block Concert in that very same venue in 1978…..
I got to play with Mickey Finn that night….one of the very few who came out in Support
Hello Christy
I wanted to thank you for the brilliant gig that you and the boys put on for us on 25 May. Eamonn (my husband) and I brought along Eamonn’s brother and his wife, both Irish (I am the only English one). It was the first time they had seen you live, though they love your music, and they had a great time. It was such a rich selection of music, happy and moving in turns. I was so pleased to hear Burning Times again, as seemingly were other correspondents. It made me think of Motherland for some reason. I’m not sure why…
Anyhow, take good care, and many thanks again for the songs.
Best wishes.

Was just wandering, who is playing the mandolin on Lily?
Thanks for your music.
It might have been Cathal Hayden, it might have been Seamie O’Dowd, cant say definitely until I return to base camp…

Sorry all, we attended the gig on 24 May. I’m rubbish with dates, which is a bit of a problem, given I’m responsible for taking holiday bookings!!
