Hi Christy,
first heard you in Düsseldorf, I believe it was back in 1995 or so… Have been to many‘s a gig of yours since, each and every one well worth the trip. Your concerts took us to Sligo, Athlone, Bundoran, a solo performance very special in New Ross, Killarney’s INEC and Vicar St more than once. Thank you for inspiring us over all these years – your music really kept our spirits high, and we took quite a few songs back to Germany arranging them for our own band.
We’ll be on the road again to see you and the Band in Tullamore next Saturday, our own “trad outfit“ including my wife Christina and our friends Peter, Trude, and Leif (a real viking from Norway, that is). Just remembered Declan and you playing in the old Point venue in Dublin 2005/06… We were blown away by your renditions of “Reel in the Flickering Light” and “MacIlhatton” hearing them for the first time then. Great storytelling, fun & fancy! I won’t shout out at the Tullamore Court, but if it’s possible to hear one of these again that night, now by the four of you – that would be just great!
Thanks again to you all, musicians & crew! Keep the good thing going,
Dietmar

Thanks Patrick,.the song is very interesting…I grew up less then 5 miles from the Curragh internment camp….spent a lot of time in the Camp and around the plains as a young lad…its an historical ballad worthy of note
What a game Christy thought it would have been a closer encounter ,Ride on you crazy diamond.
Christy's reply
Ye are deserving Champions….twas a sad spectacle of a game from our perspective but, as it sealed your victorious season, it will have been a cause for great celebration among our Welsh neighbours….

Christy,
Enjoyed the gig tonight
Here’s a reworking of the Curragh of Kildare in memory of a granduncle of mine who was in Tintown
To Christy
Gneeveguilla as gaeilge is gníomh go leith. A gníomh is 5 acres so gníomh go leith is 7 and a half
When they sped me from my bed
To my mother it was said
By the Branch Man, his too was unaware
Without any proven fact
Emergency Powers Act
interned, I was, for ‘Public Safety’
From November of ‘42
Until May 1945
We schooled with Ó Cadhain upon the Plain the freezing cold and damp
Within the curragh Camp
And my true love was far away from me
To attend my grandfather’s wake
If I would undertake
The Governor would grant me some parole
disassociate and keep the peace
He’d grant conditional release
But that was unacceptable to me
In De Valera’s reign
Minister Boland did me detain
And the Tintown winters they were severe
As Internees we did fare
On the curragh of Kildare
And my true love was far away from me
And straight I did repair
From the Curragh of Kildare
For its there I held the memories of my dear
And though repression dimmed the fight
The republic still shines bright
And we will all regroup and start again
Peace with justice, our desire
Let freedom stoke the embers’ fire
And my true love is waiting still for me

It has been a while since we last were in Ireland for a gig but we are very happy being in Killarney for your concert in INEC. The first time we saw you was 25 years ago in Dranouter, but the second time was, 10 years later, also in INEC, since then, we returned so many times. You introduced us not only to your beautiful music but also to cosy Irish places like Trim, Pettigo, Buncrana, not to forget that stormy night in Bundoran or that fantastic warm summer evening in Knocknagoshel. Many thanks and we are looking forward to tomorrow night. Piet & Els

Hi Christy, I’m really looking forward to tomorrow night. I missed you the last time you and Declan were in the inec. I’m sure it will be a great night. Would there be any chance you would sing Smoke and Strong Whiskey for me and my wife Kathleen. I love that song. I know it’s late notice but if you could manage it that would be great. Best of luck tomorrow night. Hope to see you then please God. Mike Kelly.

Yesterday was a strange day, one out of 17 ? Really? It had been a perfect day for walking over here at least, but the minds remain locked shut, perhaps a rendition at Tullamore could be considered?
Have a good day in front of the gogglebox Christy. Come on presenting Percy.

Have you ever heard “St Patrick’s Arrival”? a song from my 1976 album “The Iron Behind The Velvet” it maintains that the Holy man was an auld alkie
Patrick’s Arrival
Christy Moore
You’ve heard of St. Denis of France.
He never had much for to brag on.
You’ve heard of St. George and his lance
Who killed d’old heathenish dragon.
The Saints of the Welshmen and Scot
Are a couple of pitiful pipers
And might just as well go to pot
When compared to the patron of vipers:
St. Patrick of Ireland, my dear.
He sailed to the Emerald Isle
On a lump of pavin’ stone mounted.
He beat the steamboat by a mile
Which mighty good sailing was counted.
Says he, “The salt water, I think,
Has made me unmerciful thirsty;
So bring me a flagon to drink
To wash down the mullygrups, burst ye,
Of drink that is fit for a Saint.”
He preached then with wonderful force
The ignorant natives a teaching,
With wine washed down each discourse,
For, says he, “I detest your dry preaching.”
The people in wonderment struck
At a pastor so pious and civil,
Exclaimed, “We’re for you, my old buck,
And we’ll heave our blind Gods to the divil,
Who dwells in hot water below.”
This finished, our worshipful man
Went to visit an elegant fellow
Whose practise each cool afternoon
Was to get most delightful mellow.
That day with a barrel of beer,
He was drinking away with abandon.
Say’s Patrick, “It’s grand to be here.
I drank nothing to speak of since landing,
So give me a pull from your pot.”
He lifted the pewter in sport.
Believe me, I tell you, it’s no fable.
A gallon he drank from the quart
And left it back full on the table.
“A miracle!” everyone cried
And all took a pull on the Stingo.
They were mighty good hands at that trade
And they drank ’til they fell yet, by Jingo.
The pot it still frothed o’er the brim.
Next day said the host, “It’s a fast,
And I’ve nothing to eat but cold mutton.
On Fridays who’d make such repast
Except an unmerciful glutton?”
Said Pat, “Stop this nonsense, I beg.
What you tell me is nothing but gammon.”
When the host brought down the lamb’s leg,
Pat ordered to turn it to salmon,
And the leg most politely complied.
You’ve heard, I suppose, long ago,
How the snakes, in a manner most antic,
He marched to the county Mayo
And ordered them all into the Atlantic.
Hence never use water to drink
The people of Ireland determine
With mighty good reason, I think,
For Patrick has filled it with vermin,
And snakes and such other things.
He was a fine man as you’d meet
From Fairhead to Kilcrumper,
Though under the sod he is laid,
Let’s all drink his health in a bumper.
I wish he was here that my glass
He might by art magic replenish,
But since he is not, why alas!
My old song must come to a finish
Because all the drink is gone.
on the he road next few days and I’ll have time to watch your recommendations
