That was some gig in the Pavilion on Saturday. Lovely venue with very friendly front of House staff. Your rendition of John Reilly’s “The Well” was something to behold.Long may it continue, thanks for what you do for us the listeners.

The Pavilion Dun Laoghaire is indeed a wonderful venue… in the past year we have attended Gigs, Plays and Films there..we feel very fortunate to have such a great facility on our doorstep….it has really blossomed in recent years…both regular and volunteer staff create a welcoming atmosphere…. both as an audient and as a performer I have found it to be a great venue……
“The Well” fairly rattled on Sat night… I had a fierce surge of energy at that gig…happens sometimes without rhyme or reason..the songs lift me out of it and carry me off to some great Fleadh…..this mighty session goes on all the time somewhere out in the ether…every now and then I find the right key and gain entry….
there are nights when everything becomes aligned….its as if the songs play themselves….they emerge from the menu in perfect order….and the right requests resound…. Sonny’s Dream, Allende, Hey Ronnie Reagan, Bogman, ..
wasthat yourself that called out for Sonny ? I could’nt see a brack with the lights ( and the closed eyes !!)
I was very touched to receive your get-well-soon card. What a lovely surprise – it left me speechless! Thank you a thousand times for thinking of me!
I’m getting better every day, and it looks like I’m on my way towards a full recovery. I’m looking forward to coming back to Quilty in October (I just booked my flight!).
All the best and thank you again,
Christina

The Sea air in Quilty is famous for its powers of recuperation…..happy travels
It’s one of the good songs, this “Allende”, no ? You pronounce it fine no worry. And your “Victor Jara” pronounciation is outstanding 🙂 You must have been chilean in an other life… Thanks and xxx good compañero !
Christy's reply
The request rang out on Friday night in Dún Laoghaire ( formerly known as Kingstown during British Occupation)…….Its been a while since “Allende” resounded..I took a chance that I would remember it….such a great song from Don Lange…played it again on Saturday night. It will remain in the set for the forseeable…I look forward to playing it with the Band when we re-convene…..
…where Tyrone Boys dream of lovin on the strand. Tyrone abú! Looking forward to seeing you in the Orchard County ? later this month…go well Christy
Ps Lizzy you should have hidden in the Lower Hogan!
Christy's reply
Given the huge in-balance in population, sponsorship and resources, Tyrone can hold their heads on high……The Dubs have been all-conquering these past 4 years, their legions of loyal supporters given cause for constant celebration. Standing in the sidelines I’m afraid that the game is becoming a lesser spectacle. The players are now superb athletes, every aspect has improved over my life time. But the game itself has changed its shape, form, skill set and is no longer the awesome spectacle that I recall from younger days…
Congrats Dublin, commiserations Tyrone, us Lilies live in eternal hope and expectation
That was a cracker of a gig in The Pavilion last night. The Solo gigs are so nice to be at…and to hear more chat is just brilliant…makes the gigs cozier..grand comfortable theatre there, nice crew. thanks for a great night..L
Christy's reply
Lar…I thought I recognised the voice that called for “Natives” last night..sorry I could not oblige…been struggling a bit with that song…my original arrangement ( of Paul Doran’s song) was pitched in C…I’ve been struggling a bit with the high end notes….I’ve been trying to transpose it to a lower key but it just does not sound so good…the problem lies with my lack of guitar chords….. but I’ve not given up yet..
I’m enjoying the solo work..its an entirely different gig for me..neither better nor worse then the Band gig ..just very different …..Its wonderful to have the option…I had stopped solo work and it was quite challenging to re engage…I hope to keep it going alongside the band .
good to hear from you
Dear Christy,
Manitou was well-disposed to us. We got two tickets for January 2th. Amazing!!! We‘re happy to hear you again.
But it was a hard one-and-a-half-hours fight against ticketmaster. During the process of order tickets. Several times they kicked us out because of back calls after code words over and over again. Again and again starting the process needs strong conditions to get the goal. But(!!!) at the end it was successful.
For all the other fellows who try to get tickets – „Don‘t give up“. Because there are still a few tickets for January on ticketmaster. Found out this morning on TMs website. But an overall few about vacant seats you get only in case your registration was successful.
Christy to you, we wish you a good time for the upcoming days weeks and months. Till then in Dublin.
Alphorn (Dietmar) and Karin
Christy's reply
Well done.. sorry you had to struggle to get tickets but your persistance paid off…
Christy, It was Father Murphy. I asked my mother. He was tough that’s for sure. The husband is a big fan, Carl. my mother took him to meet your mother (god rest her soul) years ago. had a cup of tea with her and she told a lot of great stories. She was a lovely woman, funny and full of life. One of these days he will get to meet you. Shame im missing you in Oct.
few days ago we‘re back in Berlin, we‘re still pending on green clouds full of impressions. Your gig at Laisure-Land on August 18th is one of this clouds. We agreed with most of the fellows the gig was loaded with high energy and emotions that came from the stage. Great respect and thanks for the songs and music. Thanks also to Declan and the other musicians and the many kindly helpers from Galway. Special tanks to Hilary who gave us the songbook back from the stage with your dedication.
The days after we enjoyed our journey on the islands and the Burren for walking and listen music. In McDermott‘s in Doolin we listened a fantastic UilliannPiper Blackie O‘Conell with his colleague Cyril O‘Donoghue on bouzouki and an excellent flute player from Scotland. Cloud two!
Last days we were spending in Dublin visiting the EPIC-IRELAND. Absolutely impressed because of the exhibition-design and the interactive stuff including a super friendly staff there. But in the island-gallery or in the music-gallery we missed songs like „City Of Chicago“, „Missing You“ or „From Clare To Here“ for example (?).
However, we‘ve got a Pre-sale link for the Vicar Street shows. If manitou are well-disposed to us may we listen your music again. If not we have the Impressions from our journey. In any cases it would give us a great pleasure.
At the end best wishes to you Christy and for the tour.
From Berlin,
Alphorn (Dietmar) and Karin

Howdy, Christy! Deadhead Bob here from scorching hot and sauna humid Houston, Texas (think 35C and hotter with 80%+ humidity). Just wanted to let you know that I have my tickets for the December 10, 11, 17 and 18 gigs at Vicar Street. I’ll celebrating my birthday with four shows. What a dream come true!
Lots of life has occurred since we last talked in Arklow last July. I look forward to seeing you, Declan and the 4711ers. Hope we have an opportunity to catch up while we’re both in Dublin.

Hello Christy, Valerie Nemia ( Spooner from Kilmeague here) living in Florida now. Any chance of getting to see you when I come home end of Oct to see my mother. She always talks about when she use to babysit you as a baby. Great stories.
Christy's reply
Any mention of Kilmeague brings back memories….I think of Fitzgeralds Forge, Mrs.Cribbin’s Bar and Grocery, Coles, Ryans,Dowlings,Grays, Slatterys, Cribbins shop,Byrnes, The Hangedmans, Powers, Prendergasts,Father whatever-his-name-was, (he was a cranky auld bollicks), he came to Barronstown and berated my Grand-Uncle Frank for not attending to his Sunday obligations….the poor man unable to get past the Haggart because of nervous disposition…. it was around the time I began to question “faith” that was daily brainwashed into us,
Nan churning butter, the milking, dreawing water from the Well, the horses and plough, the threshing, floury spuds and homecured bacon, gathering eggs, tea to the bog, the weekly order from town, 80 Gold Flake, the man who came every 6 months for the “sick” hens, the Gypsies on the lane, paper Flowers, holy pictures, gatherings around the wireless for Racing, Kildare matches and The Kennedys of Castlerosse, the hay bogey, the stile to Coles haggart, the pony and trap, …..
with regard to the baby sitting…..your mother is some woman…please give her my best wishes….I’m gonna be over in Scotland at the end of October
Dear Christy, Got stranded in Doolin in 1987 with a friend. stayed then 2 month at the rainbow hostel with carmel and Mattie and had the best time of my life including seeing you in Lisdoonvarna live for the first of many times. Yesterday now I got tickets for the 2nd of January to see you at Vicar Street together with some friends also coming from Switzerland. Looking forward to this. Stay healthy and all the best to you and your Family.God bless.

“stranded” in Doolin for 2 months in the 80s..sounds blissful…it had that effect on many people…Dublin Skippy went to the first Lisdoonvarna Festival in 1978 and stayed until his death 35 years later …
I often got “stuck” in McGanns myself….ramble in for a pint of stout, you’d never who’d be hangin about….Tommy & Tony were wonderful hosts back in the day…glamping was invented upon the back lawn of McGanns….Lifeguards and Beauty Queens, Rapscallions and Lewdermawns, first time I was ever upstairs in a tent….not a smart phone on site as everyone puffed away on their 20 Majors…Yanks and Voss-in-Doolins, Brits and Lowlanders….local lotharios ridin like rabbits in low tents…. all had a bit of Irish be the time the holliers ended..ól,feol,ceol,dole,hole….BP Fallon brought his own T Bag…Hacksaw gave McAlpines the full throttle… Corky was out from Galway….the catering was way ahead of its time…vegan organic and whatever you’re havin yourself….
Emmy Lou had to be carried to her dressing room, Seamus Ennis showed us all how he could do it, Chris De Burgh drove heifers to stampede when the fireworks went off…Micho calmed things down
Requests Christy……… im on my Tea break at the minute and my mind is running ragged with Songs!!!!!………. Bogman,Motherland,Irish Ritual, Politico.Tuam beat, Farmer Hayes………..I better go back to work,I’ll leave the choices to your good self, brilliant as usual.

I’m getting married this Friday 31-08-2018 in Glasgow. Now, I’m from Belfast but been here for nearly 20 years. I was at a friends house recently and they were singing all trad Scottish songs and I was disgraced – because I can sing but couldn’t sing an Irish song. The next day I listened to you singing “Black is the colour” and I thought! That’s the one for me. Then I read about it and it’s a Scottish song. I cried listening to you sing it and I wondered where the Glasgow Folk Centre was? And guess what? I just figured out that I’m getting married on Montrose Street this Friday and also, my witness is a girl from Motherwell. How perfect is that??
I’m throughly delighted with that connection.
Big love and thank you.

Looking forward to visiting your home venue on Saturday(my first time in the Pavilion)………The Dubs & Tyrone Boys will be gone to bed early in preparation for Crocker………. so we can give a lash for as long as you want ?

this is the song, I really think you could sing it powerfully.
human waste, human waste.
best forgotten,
thrown away.
just 796 children
who will never see the light of day,
will never see their mothers face.
did they not listen to the words they prayed?
the white lies of hypocritical saints.
for the world was better off without..
Human waste, human waste
silent tears were wept for them,
no requiems were sang
for theyre just
human waste,
theyre just human waste.
if god is good, why do we fear him?
if god is peace, why do we wage war?
if god is kind, then why do we kill children in his name?
if god forgives, then why do we cast stones?
human waste
theyre just human waste.

Strange Ways
Christy Moore
There is a ring around the world
It ensnares the little Ones
As these priests and bishops fall
Innocence comes to an end.
Born of woman born through pain
In the shadow of a man
You are in me I am in you
It’s not always easy to understand
Strange Ways……God works in Strange Ways
Bless me father I have sinned
God the father of all things
You are my everlasting shame
God works in strange ways
Strange ways, God works in Strange ways
