Christy, what a night you gave us in the little theatre, Gorey. My wife Emily and i flew from south Carolina thinking we would see you on the Friday, we rocked up to the front door only for the man to point out our tickets were for sat night…sheepishly we made our way back to the mother’s house in town, the sat gig I will never forget, my wife and I found out we are having a baby, Johnny Sexton broke French hearts and you played John o dreams, all in the space of 3 hours… back in SC now trying to convince herself if it’s a boy his name is Christy…thanks again.
Christy's reply
That explains the lack of response for the song I sang for ye both !!!….
I hope your Ma put the kettle on and got out the last of the Christmas pudding….
Congrats on the the pending arrival…..rem that Christy is a woman’s name in certain parts…..what about Sexton’s drop goal !!! Johnny Haughton has a nice ring to it but let Emily have the last word
I was thinking about the special gig the 50@50 and bye jasus rather you than me!! But it would be definitely be a remarkably achievement for any artist to do…
But I was also thinking about the 1000s around the world who don’t have the same privilege of heading out on a Friday night to a Christy gig but would love to be there all the same, would it be possible to include these people? maybe into a live you tube channel for the night where they could have some experience of a Christy gig.
I know a few friends of mine down under in oz would love to get back for a gig but something like that would make the pain a lot easier.
Just a taught!

Hi Christy,
Just wondering if it would it be OK to use a picture of you which is available on the internet in a presentation I am giving? Your words “don’t forget your shovel if you want to go to work” apply to a concept I was hoping to present and so I was hoping to use a picture of you singing with your guitar for impact!
kind regards,

No Problem…work away
BUT
Please note that the song was written by my good friend, the late Christie Hennessy
Today marks the 75th anniversary of a terrible tragedy in Cavan town when a convent fire claimed the lives of 35 orphan children and one adult working cleaner. No cause was ever found and nobody took any blame. Along with three friends, I’ve written a song to remember those 36. The story reminds me so much of your song dedicated to the Stardust victims. Hello
Was a bit away from the guestbook and what an explosion of encouragement I read for the 50@50 idea!
It sounds great but the nurse in me is wondering how much time will it take for you and Declan to recover from that?
Greetings from Chris the worried one!
Christy's reply
I’d say about 30 minutes and we’d be ready to go again…
Hi Christy,
Re: the 50@50…..an idea for the “Planning Department”. First and foremost, your Vocals have to be protected during such a long stint. Then you and the Orchestra will have to be sustained. So with that in mind, what about doing a Gig divided into 5 sets of 10 Songs with a 10 or 15 min interval in between. Location; a Theatre venue of your choice with the right Vibes and Oxygen to sustain everyone….. Just an idea!!!!!
Best Regards.
CM (72)
How are things since?I hope you are good.I think the asking for feedback is class how everyone posts.
I just wanted to say the 50 song idea is great as a listener I would love it.I would love 100 songs.!!
It would have to be something you yourself would enjoy. If 50 songs ever seemed like too much to aim for and If you yourself are not enjoying it then the magic is lost.
on another story
I want to say aswell that there is a new app that is connected to the 4711ers boards now.It is called tapatalk. It is really very cool and there has been a good few people lurking and posting on there…

Love the idea of the 50 @50 – Liv’s idea of sharing the stories sounds good – One Voice Live so to speak. Like the idea of some of the writers attending too, though the more people involved the more difficult it may be to get suitable dates. As for a venue – what about Stormont, seeing as we can’t seem to use it for anything else these days. To be honest, I find every gig of yours a celebration of so much – songs, friendships, memories and history amongst the rest. Keep doing what you do.
Christy's reply
Stormont it is then….should be able to get Michelle, Arlene and Teresa onside…..security assured
Love the sound of a 50@50. A bit away from guestbook these days but with my ears still on the ground, more than ever ! I’m IN, whatever that means ! Love to all, sending sunshine from the Bay. Ml

another year underway here in Bognia….the tour continues..loyal comrades in the ranks of the 4711er column are being joined daily by new recruits coming along to see what all the fuss is about ….whats the story with this baldy auld fella and his band of rapscallions and ragamuffins…Its Springtime again down here in Europe as the UK prepares to jump ship into the dark and lonely deep…all we can do is hope that they dont pull us down with them…no one has the slightest notion as to what is going to happen..either way the plastic will get us all in the end as we smother in our own waste and detritus….the good news is that Jimmy Cliff is coming to Waterford
Hi Christy .
What a interesting idea to a 4-5 hr gig hearing songs from each album would be awesome,,Hope it works out..
Christy's reply
Seems like everyone here likes the idea….in due course we will bring it to our planning department and commence a feasibility study…from there it will be considered by our logistic department and, depending upon the outcome, it may go out to tender….
Thanks for the Yellow Triangle….
We went to see “Shape of Water” and liked it a lot…disappointed by “The Post” which I felt was burdened by its high profile stars, Daniel’s “Phantom Thread” is the best movie we’ve seen for a long time and also rate “3 Posters” real high…all in all its been a good month for movies…hopin to see Saoirse’s new one after the initial rush

Your 50 @ 50 idea has really grabbed the imagination . Petra’s idea of some of the songwriters being invited , Anuk’s promise to feed all of the masses with your favourite cakes and Olivia’s steer of ten songs from each decade with your passion for telling the tale behind each song . WOW It would be the ultimate bucket list experience before the authorities finally and inevitably catch me . Fans can be selfish and i don’t want to add to the pressure . If you decide to go ahead however there can only really be one venue and i think you know that . What about the 3rd and 4th of November at Barrowlands.? What a feeling it would be to leave the Ballroom of Romance on a Saturday night knowing we are returning the next day to say a real thank you to a very genuine man . .
Christy's reply
Morra Mick,
2 hours on The Barrowland Stage and I’m ready for the Oxygen tent..are you trying to finish me off altogether !!!.
Very few of our listeners come across as selfish…and if they do reveal themselves, the rest of the audience soon sort them out…
I love Barrowlands but it takes me 9 months to recover and a further 9 months to prepare for the return..thus every 18 months..
the idea was not mine..Eoin O’C dreamt it up
Afternoon Christy
Just taking a nifty shifty at the idea of a fifty at fifty. I’m sure it would be a mighty task for you and the band but think of the fun we could have. Outside or inside? I’m torn with that one. Outside in the sun, kicking off the flip-flops and chilling to Ordinary Man sounds good but would the likes of The Contender work in that environment. Wouldn’t want it to morph into some kind workshop thingy though. We need the craic not the facts. I can read a book for that.
Just made my mind up. Outside, spread over 2 days with other artists and lots of choc ices, and a well controlled beer tent.
Frankie
Of course I’d say we’d all love a 50song extravaganza and I’m wondering about what shape it would take. Remember it’s a marathon not a sprint though. Lots of planning involved I’m sure. I’ll be watching this space for developments. Best regards.

50 songs for 50 years … Some 5 hour concert … This idea made my mind spin around since last night. You know, Christy, that such concert would be a dream come true for all 4711ers and other „songsters“ …
Some suggestions to make it even more special:
The place where it happens should be a worthy one – the Royal Spa Hotel in Lisdoonvarna always was an excellent choice for magic moments.
And wouldn’t it be great to have some song authors there at the event? As guests only or even joining yourself in playing their songs. For example Wally Page, Johnny Spillane, your brother Barry, Jimmy McCarthy or Hank Wedel? I can’t imagine that Bob Dylan, Natalie Merchant or Joni Mitchell would follow your invitation (on the other hand – you never know – never say never as they say …)
Whatever your plan is – we are looking forward to be there!

I love the idea of 50@50 Christy. Kay would I definitely be there (provided we can get tickets as it would undoubtedly be an immediate sell-out). I particularly like the suggestion from Olivia for a raconteur type evening where you would share the background to songs, memories, stories etc. I always love it when you share such detail in your concerts. It might also be a bit easier on the singing voice as 4-5 hours is a long session; long for you, not for us. Thank for all the great memories. All the best. Seamus
