Hi Hilary,
No I haven’t received mail from you! If there is something you would like to correspond with me about I am happy to do so. Let me have your email address and I will certainly give you a shout. Regards Mary
Christy Limerick international brigades memorial trust along with Framework films has made a documentary on the 6 limerick men who fought in the spanish war with the International brigades. We are trying to put the score together and would love to use your classic “Viva la quinca brigada” -is this possible? How can we seek permission ?
Christy's reply
tried contacting your email to no avail….makes me think twice…if you dont trust me with your email address perhaps I should not trust you with my song
Christy thanks for your kind words! I’ll definitely look out for your gig and hope I make it. In the meantime my ear and feet will be will be firmly on the ground! Mary
Well it was fierce hard to track down a copy but I finally got my hand on ‘One Voice’. Gave it a start last night; Great Stuff! – hoping to get most done by Wednesday’s Vicar St. Gig.
Looking forward to it!
Am curious… do you find a good range of ages in your followers? I’m no longer a spring chicken at 28 but I’m finding lately in particular a lot of friends and people my age are scrapping the Friday nights on Dawson street for a few tickets to the odd Christy Moore gig. (Wednesday will by my 3rd)

We have noticed an insurge of new listeners in recent times…we have a great spread of ages in the audience..fresh ears keep me on my toes..I’ve never taken the audience for granted but new blood gives me a timely reminder to keep working, keep seeking, keep writing…this is year 50 of the ongoing tour, still feels as fulfilling and enjoyable as at any time along the road…back in 1967 I usually got to do 2 x 20 minute sets…..recent nights the gigs have been approx four times longer (around 2 and a quarter hours)…and it seems to whizz by ( for me at least! )
“One Voice” still shows up on ebay…the hard back is a better product and can be cheap enough second-hand..the paper back is stiil available as new but the hard back would be my preference…it was a great project for me at a time when ill-health prevented me gigging..
hope Wed night goes well..I’m warming up already
hello christy,
i still regret not going to your last gig at McGann’s in Boston way back when! just wanted to send you good wishes for 2017. i live in Florida now, and in honor of my mom’s Cork heritage, i make a living playing the songs in pubs in the area. have had the pleasure of opening for Derek Warfield, and if ya ever think of crossing the pond, ya have a place to stay in the sunshine state! Hope to see ya on my next trip to Ireland…
Christy's reply
Thank you…..hope your singing continues to resound…
Dear Christy,
Hope this finds you well. After two most enjoyable weeks on our beloved Island we returned home safely to cold and wintry Germany. As the snow falls gently your beautiful music is reverberating in our ears …
MÍLE MAITH AGAT to you, Declan, Cathal, Vicky and Jimmy for the two marvellous nights at Vicar Street and also to the crew for the perfect sound and lights! – What a grand start to the new year!!!
In previous days so many people already expressed their enthusiasm (liked the super review of Brian’s brother-in-law) and gratitude about your gigs in this very special venue – I’d only add they were AWESOME!
I loved to hear The Gardener and Green Grows The Laurel on both nights, as well January Man, First Time Ever, Faithful Departed, Johnny Jump Up and Yellow Triangle were my favourite songs, and most of all Gortatagort – DANKESCHOEN for welcoming us in Dublin with this terrific ballad!
On our way to the airport we had an entertaining real Dubliner taxi driver. While passing the “Black Church” he told us the story that the devil will appear when you go around seven times and there’s a modern version now, instead of the devil you’ll meet a politician nowadays. He made us laugh and we were thinking of your new song Lingo Politico.
Many thanks again and best wishes, Traudel & Horst

greetings to all German songsters….see ye along the way..here or there or somewhere in between…
Eating the last of the puddin, tea…and listen to the beautiful Christie Hennessy and his Duets album….now that was a humdinger…and just noticed the nice touch on ‘don’t forget your shovel’ where the guest vocalist is Luke Concannon from ‘Nizlopi’ of the great JCB song, lovely connection coming full circle. What gems he had, Jealous Heart, Roll Back The Clouds, I Will, and the song recorded with Luka Bloom and yourself is beautiful too….must’ve been a day to remember for many reasons ? Hup Christie H
Christy's reply
my fondest memory of that day was the look on Christie’s face when his family arrived into the studio…he was so happy to see them…he was weak but the loving light shone from him
Happy New Year Christy……looks like Louise and I are going to have to do another “Cardiff” to see you again this year…..see what happens….stay healthy Christy……Steven

you remind me once again of Trimdon, Washington, Hebburn, Jarrow, Birtley, Sunderland, Southshields, Marsden…..great times almost 50 years ago,
my first visit was to The Marsden Rattlers Club, the irrepresible Jim Irvine and his band of merry players, that was a Sunday night in 1967….from there my journey spread in all NorthEastern directions where I met John Doonan and his family, Tom Gilfellon across the River with The Ranters on The High level..Jim Sharp further North….a great clun in Alnwick, back for to the Fettlers in Stockton, The Elliots in Birtly, Mick Elliot in Sunland….50 years on its hard to believe that so many great clubs thrived, so many great folksingers criss crossing fro Tyne to Tees…Vin Garbutt,Pete Betts,Hedgehogs,..any one remember world records in Whitley Bay….Nigel Denver
Christy, loved every thing about your gig in Vicar Street. My first time there. Thank you so much for the dedication…so unexpected and much appreciated. Hence the excitement. You and your band of friends are wonderful. A cracker night and every song a gem. Heading to Derry tomorrow for another gig. Retirement is the business. GRMA!

it was a joy to hear your voice ring out in Vicar St last week….your bookcase still catching the eye..I have a gig in Belfast in March and a new song from beneath the Black Mountain to sing.. keep you ear to the ground,
it will be announced soon. the venue is limited..greetings to the Bog Meadow
I like to play and sing. I discovered Irish music 25 years ago. Loads of friends I have got, parties and singing (drinking). Christy Moores music is my favorite. The voice, words, performance I love it. Played Nancy Spain to one of my long lasting Northern Irish friend somewhere in Croatia for his 70th birthday. He shed a tear and I was torn apart with the amount of emotions coming from God knows where? Great music Christy and I will just fly over to Dublin for one of your performances. I have never seen it live and maybe Brussels could be one of your gigs.
Your Croatian fan

who knows Picek, what way the wind blows….maybe see you in Brussells, or in Dublin, or in Croatia….keep singing
We will be over for the February 18th Mullingar show. Any chance you can put Fairtale of New York in the set list? Our teenagers played an instrumental version of it for their school concert, it’d be nice for them to hear your version.
you’re soundin good, lookin good, always loved this song and you are doing a good job on it…keep up the good work…seems like you are finding your path…voice sounding sweet and powerful
No Wally gig this month, however I do have a few lined up if I can give them a shout:
**John Spillane is back, Fri 24th Feb
**Singer/performer night Sat 11th March to include, Sara Bear Ryan, Laura Duff, Eddie Sherlock and Anne Rynne , plus more

great venue, great line-up, and Lar at the wheel…sounds good to me
Hi Christy, hope all’s well. I just got a nice email from my bro-inlaw who was at Vicar Street the other night. It reads like a Times review ! He played support to Planxty way back when.. Anyway I thought I’d share it.
Hi Brian
Well, I had a re-awakening last night…a revelation!….an experience like no other!I felt like I had been reborn!
Surprisingly there wasn’t any religion involved, I wasn’t in any church and there was no priest present!
You guessed it! I went to see Christy!……Yes, after all the years, as I haven’t seen him since the 80’s when he was with Moving Hearts. I was just blown away! I just couldn’t believe how good he was. I suppose to be honest I went with some reservations as I hadn’t seen him for so long. I had of course your words echoing in my mind as you had said that he was better than ever now. You were right!
The venue was Vicar St. It’s very intimate and I had a great seat…..up close and personal and 15 feet from the stage. He played for two and a half hours and gave it his all. He was joined by Declan Sinnott of course, also percussion, fiddle and a female backing singer…all excellent musicians and totally sympathetic to the music!
I was amazed at the respect from the audience, obviously mostly made up of die-hard fans. At times you could have heard a pin drop, and for livelier songs Christy needn’t have sang at all, as the audience were happy to do it for him. He played a range of songs too numerous to mention but did play some off “Lily”. “The Gardener” is one I really like and “Green Grows The Laurel” which I just love!…..amazing lyric!….a really moving song! His voice is certainly better than ever and has such power for a man his age…incredible! He did one song that knocked me out called “Lingo Politico”..(I hate politicians)…great stuff! Like a lot of his songs I don’t know how he remembers the words!
It is the first time I’ve seen Christy in 30+ years but won’t be the last. He’s a living legend, and a raconteur of great stories in song. He is also a great interpreter of other peoples songs, he just makes them his own! I also remember from meeting him all those years ago that he is a total gentleman There’s no one like him.
Hope all’s well with you…no doubt you’re looking forward to your next Christy gig…
Best Regards!
Christy's reply
great to see “Green Grows The Laurel” getting a mention….another ballad from John Reilly’s ancient repertoire (this time via Helen Grehan)….all songs from John seem imbued with an indefinable aura that emerges each time I seek to sing one of them.
The other musicians referenced are Jim Higgins from Galway on percussion, Cathal Hayden from Tyrone on Fiddle / Banjo and Vickie Keating from Cobh on backing vocals….. its a great old buzz to sit amongst such accomplished players, each of them focusing so closely upon the songs
please ask your “brother-in-law” to attend more frequently !
….and thank you Brian for forwarding his comments ….
Sounds like the beginning of this years never ending tour has got off to a flier…. special nights in vicar st it seems. Didn’t get a chance to head for the big smoke this new year but hope to make a gig ” off the cuff” in the not too distant future.
Drug addiction is a scourge of our times for sure but it is the most vulnerable that need shelter from the cold and rain surely. …..pretty sure shower facilities could be added given time and the lifting of eviction orders.
Feck the begrudgers….a feck for all,
a feck for all
a feck for all me foes !!

“O The Rosses and Gweedore”…..its many years since I found that one….used to sweat it out at the Fleadhs over 50 years ago….then Donal carried it across the country beautifully with Emmet Spiceland….”by my side a bottle of wine”… back then the only place you’d see a bottle of wine was in the sacristy….(and the priest drinkin the bejasus out of it)…. must have another crack at that ace ballad….I still have my two old Colm O’Lochlanns
I was receiving early updates on Vicar Street last night , while i worked the night shift……if only we could have 5 Bank holidays every week !!!!!!!! Anyway is seems “Sonny” was the star of the show last night; there i was for the rest of the night going around humming it…..The Rose has a lot to answer for.
“Sonny lives on a farm, in a wide open space
Take off your shoes, stay out of the race
Lay down your head, on a soft river bed……….
I wonder was there any of them pesky Pine Martens around that Farm. maybe they would go back to Newfoundland and not be annoying our Westmeath and Roscommon Foul !!!!!.
Reide on,
Patsy
Christy's reply
“The Rose”plays a stormer…..the very idea of gigs being heard around the world within hours is uplifting…I know that many singers abhor the practice (of audience recordings bouncing around the globe ) but I embrace the concept gladly…. She takes such trouble to seek out anyone referenced at a gig and then seeks to share her recording….and all this in her own time and off her own bat…the very idea of last nights gig being heard this morning on headphones in Chile, New York, Milton Keynes, Glasgow and Lyracrompane is utterly compelling….
I can only hope and pray that thon Pine Marten never interferes with Rose’s recording device…
Hi All…Free speech is fundamental to democracy…I do think people should declare their names…along with their opinions….and it would also be nice to use correct grammer…as Gaelige agus as Bearla…Hilary

lots of sniping these days…Owen (P) Keegan, the City Manager gunning for Apollo House activists and “celebrity endorsers”…Mannix Flynn too comes out again with his poisonous vitriol…theres a man thats changed his tune…he rallied a fair few “celebrity endorsements”himself when seeking to get his hands on a seat in City Hall….in fairness to them both, they stand up and speak their bit..unlike the previous correspondant who lurks in the long grass anonomously…..grammar would not concern me nor should it be a point of contention
If the presence of Brendan Ogle, Eirigi and photo opportunities for every bandwagon jumper from Gerry Adams to Richard Boyd Barrett wasn’t enough to make people suspicious, the general narrative of seize a condemned office building with no showers should have been.
It is the perfect formula, Christmas and homelessness but they don’t tell you that 80% of rough sleepers are ineligible for residence due to drug abuse.
NAMA, get the bankers but forget that much work has been done to take a condemned office building from the Ballymun era and get a planning consent worth €40m-€70m for it through the planning process.
Apollo House is not the solution it is deep cover for populists who block real solutions like building houses or banning AirBNB use of whole apartments, the former which has slowed up close to 2,000 units starting construction and the latter that sees 3,100 full units listed for use as hotel style accommodation when they should be rental properties, thats more than every homeless household in Dublin.
