I just, last year or so, saw Billy Connolly on RTE and have been watching a bunch of his tour videos by the BBC on YouTube. Very funny guy, great stories and a zest for life. He is sober now and, as you know, he started out as a folk singer. In the old days, did you ever run into him and what did you think of him at the time?
Christy's reply
Sure Did..me and Billy hung out in Glasgow,Paisley, Manchester,Dublin…met him first in The Scotia Bar on Clyde…him and Gerry and Tam were The Humblebums…we drank in The French Club in Glasgow and The Police Club in Auld Reekie…played for Danny Kyle in Paisley and we travelled with Hamish Imlach up to The Elbow Room in Kircaldy….years passed and we seldom met…last time was his 50th Birthday which he celebrated in Dublin and a whole bunch of us gathered and sprung a surprise party on him….wherever he is today I send him best wishes….in the old days he was the funniest man on my planet…I thought highly of him….still do

Hi Christy. Thanks for your reply. Hope its not too late for a shout out to Phil Blake at his first ever Concert tonight at pontio. Phil is a true Welshman but with his surname and long ginger beard and hair must be related to the Blake Galway Tribe!
While doing a tidy-up of the house recently, I came across a cassette recording of a gig you did on the Republican wing of Portlaoise Gaol on February 7th 1990. You more than likely have a copy of this already, but if not, I’d be delighted to forward it on to you if you wanted it.
Go raibh maith agat – Johnny.
Christy's reply
I remember that gig like it was last week…sound Johnny..I’ll be in touch

Just found your Lord Baker on the Goilin web site http://www.itma.ie/goilin/song/lord_baker_christy_moore . Wonderful.
Nigel, whose favourite song was Bogie, was able to sing all of Tam Lin from memory!! This clip brought back happy memories of visiting Ireland for the Scots, Welsh, Irish singing. Can’t wait till Pontio. Viva. Chris.

Hi Christy,
Brilliant reports of the solo gig in Carlow …….well done.hope to catch one soon.
I recently attended Tommy Fleming’s musical “Paddy”. a true, funny and sad story of a West of Ireland Man who went to London in the early Sixties to make his fortune and support his Mother at home. Like many before him things didn’t go as planned;worked hard, played hard, until the demon in the Bottle got hold of him. I was thinking to myself that you must have encountered some of them on your early London travels, all longing to return to the old Sod.
A couple of lines really stood out for me:” we weren’t built for Cities, but we built them all the same. when they spoke of progress they never spoke of us”………….Some things haven’t changed.
Listening to some of the Songs I was thinking to myself that you be well suited to give them a lash.
Best of luck with the UK tour, suppose Mick will be reading Bruce’s new Book on the Stenna !!!
Best Regards,
Patsy
Christy's reply
sound Patsy..always good to hear news of some new songs on the air..heard some great songs myself at last weekend’s Frank Harte festival which is an annual event organised by the Góilín Singers club…over the course of the weekend we must have heard a 100 songs from a hundred singers..all unaccompanied and many were new to me….heard a few I’d like to sing myself if I can track them down…..always tricky that….we’ve just boarded the Stena now and we’re full steam ahead out of The Port of Dublin..our 3rd trip over this year..its 55 years since I first took the old cattle boat from the North Wall..myself and Pat (The Meg) McGowan went over to work for the summer, two 16 years rapscallions we landed in Walls Factory and got a bedsit in Southall ….what a Summer we had…
Hi Christy. I messaged you back last year after your concert at St David’s Hall, asking if you ever sang Scapegoats live these days…You did say that you do on occasions and if I let you know when I’d be coming to see you again you would perform it…Well I’ll be in the audience on Monday 10th October (in Swansea). I’d really love if you would consider adding Scapegoats to the set list. We come to see you whenever you play in Wales and I cant wait to see you again on Monday. Thank you x
Christy's reply
we’ll get it out and hope to have it ready for Swansea …..thank you
Christy, hope you are well! Love your music, could I ask a favour? I am an artist and I have recently done a painting of you, I would love you to see it and if it wasn’t any trouble to sign it? Sure let me know what you think, keep up the great work ??
