nice one H…gonna try and catch Ralph on this tour….
Christy, thanks, of course, for all the updates about your gigs in Ireland and your recent albums/cd’s. We’ll see if I make it to the old sod before ya die or I do. I would love to see you sing in person. We’ll send out a prayer that that can happen.
I would have liked to have been a fly on the wall when you and Ralph McTell got together in the old days. I am a very big fan of Ralph and you as well of course.
For me, there are some musicians that bring tears to the eye. The masterly, beautifully played music, the human story so plain, so true, so heart felt. Thanks Ralph. And Christy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gS-kWqyws-Y

I got my first guitar in 1962 for £3 at the Fleadh in Portarlington. I bought it from a good man called Ned Bulfin. Next guitar was in McCullough-Pigotts Music shop Dublin in 1963 for £8.Then I moved on to Spainish Guitar but cant recall where or when. This was the guitar I played when I started gigging in 1966. In 1967 I befriended Ralph McTell who was the most popular and successful singer songwriter in England at that time. Ralph suggested that I get a steel strung guitar. Next time I was in London he accompanied me to Ivor Mairants Guitar Shop where I purchased my first Yamaha FG 180.It was to be the first of many.In subsequent years I had as many as 6 Yamaha FG 180s but have not played one for about 30 years.
Ralph remains a good friend although our paths seldom cross these days. He performed a beautiful song on Irish TV last week “Going Down to The G.P.O.”, a song he wrote to mark the 100th anniversary of the 1916 Rising in Dublin.Unfortunately this gem of a song has not gained the traction it deserves in the centenary year.. Ralph has always maintained close ties with Ireland and has given us some beautiful songs. Long may he continue .
“For all of our languages we can not communicate”
Good evening christy, home from the travels from Turkey and I have to say what a great experience we embraced. Some amazing things happened in the few weeks we were there. One was when we arrived in instanbul waiting for the connecting flight down south our little 13 month is beginning to walk and a soldier with guns and combat gear on, took his time to stop and see the innocents of a child and greet him with a hug and a kiss. it was a very moving point, as a few weeks earlier the coup was happening and that soldier could of been in a different place at the wrong time.. it was one of them moments that a picture would speak a thousand words..
On the flight home to Dublin I was luckily enough to be seated next to a family from Syria on their way to Ireland to be relocated, I welcomed them and wished them the best and I hope they find a good life here in Ireland.
It made me think does natives get a run out these days?? I probably haven’t heard it live for a few years now. Magic song but I always found it hard to sing live.. more practice I need i guess..
Great to see you doing a few solo gigs again. I hope you enjoy them and sing the songs you would at home. Raging I’m missing the riverbank gigs it sold out when we were away, but the riverbank is a lovely room. Seen Paul Brady, luka, Andy Irvine , donal lunny, rubber, band on an island, yourself, and many more all play there, and never a bad night.
I’m sure pat hickey could get me a ticket, anyone have his Number!!!!!!!!! Haha
Christy's reply
Great Share Sonsar….love the imagery of your baby being greeted by the soldier…hope a ticket comes your way….
Hi All, Its a shame to hear that JMF from California had such a hard time with the pre sale,,,, Tues am was a busy morning, many 4711ers were online at 9am hoping to get their favourite seats. I was in touch with both Irish based listeners and also with some far flung listeners and know that people in UK, Germany and even a guy based in China were all successful in securing tickets,,, for myself it was the easiest pre sale ever,,,,, I had all my tickets within 15 minutes,,,, so thanks to your own team Christy and Ticketmaster,,,,, its great to have Vicar St to look forward to again around Santa time !!! beir bua agus beannacht. Many thanks for your kind reply recently regarding my Uncle Billy Burke.Have just booked tickets for your show in Vicars Street on Tues.20th December and we are really looking forward to it.There has been a rumour circulating in the family that you wrote a song about himself and Santa Claus. Is this true or utter nonsense?
Cheers,
Paul
Christy's reply
Sound Paul….about 20 years ago I used to do a rap called “Me and Bibi”…(it was a follow up to the song “Me and The Rose” which I recorded in the early 90s). In the “Bibi” song I did reference your Uncle Billy and Santa Claus along with various other legends of my early days. I never recorded it and have not sung it for 20 years. I must dig it out and see if it could be revived but I wont have it for Dec 20th….all the best for now

‚Listen‘ is among the most beautiful songs in your repertoire, dear Christy. It has been written by the singer-songwriter Hank Wedel from Cork City. After 30 years in the music business on both sides of the pond, Hank has now released his first album, ‚Living In The Land of Love‘. It is a fine collection of self-penned songs, ranging from rock’n’roll tunes to romantic ballads and blue-grass songs. He gathered a fine bunch of musicians in the studio making the instrumentation very lively – from guitars, double bass, piano to flute, banjo and pedal steel guitar. I thought Hank deserves some promotion for this gem, and I hope you don’t have no objections me doing it. The album is available as download or on CD. Greetings from Germany!
Christy's reply
Hey Petra, lovely to hear from you, I agree with you about “Listen”..its a beautiful song..one I still play occasionally on stage….

Trying to find the words to fit this tune
Later on with inspiration from the moon
I’m bound to think of something soon
chorus:
Tonight you’ll be holding me
Tomorrow you may be gone
Let it rain let it snow let the bitter wind blow
If I will only save you in a song
I was hoping for an opening line
Nothing is coming easily to mind
Needle in a haystack would be easier to find
So this may take a little time
chorus
Whensoever I’m a long way from home
I know I needn’t have to feel alone
Trouble is I’m fretting my poor fingers to the bone
Trying to get the blood out of this stone
chorus
Hope I haven’t been hanging fire too long…
