Howya Christy
I was watching a Sky Arts programme about Johnny Cash songs and Hurt was one of the songs in the series. The video for this song is the best I have ever seen. It’s so raw of course but it also has an acceptance and a humility that only a man who has lived and learned can impart.
Just want to wish you a Happy Christmas and hope that you have an enjoyable relaxing time. Hope to see you along the way in 2016. Keep doing what you do Christy – it’s much appreciated.
Christy's reply
have you seen the Brian Maguire exhibition currently on in Void Gallery in Derry? hope to get up before it closes
Void launched ‘J’ACCUSE’ Brian Maguire, Paintings, Ciudad Juárez on Saturday 28 November.
Happy Christmas Christy……….. we will kick off the New Year with a new man in charge of the Lillies, Cian O`Neill is a breath of fresh air and theres a great buzz around………. We will be in the old Town over the next few days doing the visits and remembering those who have gone.
Hi Christy
Been running round like an eejit, arranging a funeral for a close member of the family and trying to avoid Christmas music……apart from Dylan’s offerings, that still raise a smile and ‘Fairytale’.Perfect, even in happier years and especially good knowing the charity links via your collaboration this year.Fair play to all.
Thanks for an ace year of gigs and good vibes. Here’s to Ewan’s centenary, more gigs and beautiful sounds.in 2016.
I hope you enjoy the festive season and a well deserved break.
I was just wondering if you had any gigs planned for Glasgow in 2015?
My Father absolutely adores you and I would love to get us a couple of tickets and come see you play live 🙂
My dad is going through a real hard time at the moment 🙁 heartbreaking for a daughter to see, but… Is it possible if you would give a wee shout out to him before you play Nancy Spain? That is, if you are in Glasgow in the near future. This would make him so happy, it took so much courage for me to ask this as I thought it may look a bit weird haha.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this message.
Fiona.

Sorry to read about the hard times and heartbreak…I hope ye both pull through
Played 2 Glasgow concerts a few weeks back….as always, the audience were superb in both Concert Hall and Barrowlands. Dont know yet when we’ll be back….
Great to hear that you and the High Hopes choir are releasing FairyTale Christy. Ley’s hope it makes number 1 and gets loads of cash for the homeless hopeful…. Merry Christmas to you and yours mo chara 🙂

Theres gonna be good times when all our dreams come through(Shane)
Enjoy your break Christy, well deserved. You’ve turned life into something that you’d prefer it to be, ultimate accomplishment, especially as a performer… My VISA was approved yesterday, so I can pester ye from a whole new continent ; ) ha ha After all the head wreck, questions, uncertainties, ego failings & feeling sorry for meself, one thing has become clear, that process took its toll. Feels like a weight has been lifted, even though there are many challenges ahead. I feel very different that decisions regarding my life are not in the hands of anyone else, especially the aul authorities. If I end up 1/100th the artist you are, half the age you are, I’d be happy with that. Rest up, enjoy. As Shane would howl, ‘I’m a freeborn man in the USA…’
Christy's reply
away with you and the very best of luck on your travels…give it sox..throw the head back and “Sing Out” as Pete Seeger used urge….
sure Dylan, sometimes the “process can take its toll” but,in my experience, its what happens whilst celebrating the process that does the damage….the process itself can be a joyful, spiritual, physical, educational, fulfilling, life-enhancing experience as well as being mighty crack for both practitioner and participant…but the process can be thirsty work….for some of us, this thirst is best slaked by strong tea….as Martin A Egan would say..”Tis time for more tae”
Never mind the schnappes, chianti, porter, ouzo, the crack the gargle the ganjee, the port and brandy…best way to chill after “the process” is with a mug of barrys, pen and paper and buck the fegrugers
tell them all in Merica I was askin for them….tear into it Dylan
oh yeah, my apologies…i forgot that, 70 it is….the half dont count…I still think Im 22…
Another guest on phone tonight is RoisIn Seoighe from Galway, she has a new song out with a video. And It is just amazing, I’ve been listening all day, we will be playing it tonight..I have added the great video here too…thanks a mill.
I just got your letter baby, since you gone…I got a mess o’ the blues…
what a great performance from Róisín…it has been a great pleasure to watch her music develop…great to hear a young Irish Singer singing in her own accent..the video beautifully shot too
Hello Christy,
I will be in Guildford next March to see you in concert. Looking forward to it.
I’ve tried for years to shake your hand but always missed out, lol. If you see a crazy Derry man running up the aisle shouting “howl on Christy” that’ll be me.
I’d would be an absolute honour to meet you and a memory I would hold for the rest of my life.
God bless you.
Christy's reply
Hey Kev…probably best wait til we see how the night goes…when the gig is over then we’ll see what happens after..I usually leave the stage and get straight into the Oxygen tent…soon as I’m able, I get out of the corset and into my civvies..then I’m breatylysed and checked for illegal stimulants by the English Folk Song and Dance Society…myself and the band always say a few deckitts of the rosary before exiting the venue by which time most listeners have fled to the nearest “Ye Olde Bull and Bush” for a few swift bevvies before heading for the Rogan Josh….if you are still hangin round we will bestow the “absolute honour ” upon you Kevboy ( good name for a Vodka)…last time I played Guildford was 1968….lookin forward to it myself please God and all the Saints and blessed Angels in Heaven and elsewhere

you’re spot on there Tony…some of those old Planxty riffs still reverberate around my head…when Andy and Donal got swopping notes they really paved the way for Liam’s music and for the songs too..intro to Raggle was another scene setter as were many of the intros to the sets of music…West Coast of Clare had great runs too….Kangaroo has not appeared since the last Planxty gig in London in 2005..”Tortoises from Tenerife and Ties from Timbuctoo” sang Bess Cronin and it came to me through Tom Munnelly…Time will Cure me, Smeceno Horo, Well Below The Valley, 3 Drunks, Junior Crehan’s, Queen of The Rushes…now you have me started..The Little Drummer in Austie Crowes
