Hi Christy, sad to here of the passing of Martin Egan, thoughts with all who knew him.
Would like to thank you for a fantastic three nights in Scotland (Barrowland always being my favourite gig) your performances accompanied by the amazing Declan and equally brilliant Jimmy were a joy. Good to see Jimmy sitting alongside you and not behind on stage, he certainly belongs there. Regards to both great musicians.
Aside from the excellent music a particular highlight was meeting Paddy Hill and shaking his hand, the tenner I pledged to his charity was received as if it was a million, a true gentleman. And I have since learned Scapegoats on my guitar and sing during every practice session I have.
I do have a request but I’ll keep that for next time you are over the water.
Thanks again for the music
Ride on and let the music keep your spirits high

Since my first gig there (Glasgow Folk Centre,Montrose Street) in 1968 I have always cherished visits to The Clyde. The recent visit was a stoater….2 great nights….The Barrowland Choir sang their heads off….
Sad to see the news about Martin Egan. Lovely fella, and a great writer of song, and poem. Thanks for sharing “Casey” with the world. Urraim/respect Christy.
“O the sides are going up on Knightleys Trailer
Anticipatin work thats yet to come”
“O the low road goes from Killorglin all the way to Annascaul”
“I bust me head off a gable wall at the end of a top shelf stagger”
From The Aran Islands to Dingle, From The Meeting Place to Madonna House..he was a great comrade…he never shirked the hard ball…Farewell Martin..we’ll not forget you
The local Radisson Blu Hotel has the notice up already – you’re singing here in mid-March I see. Time to dust out ‘Jailhouse Blues’!?
I’ve been in communication only recently with the man who used to run a great local folk club, the Tom McHale Folk Club which was one great venue here in the very late 70s.
Christy's reply
Tom McHale was a beautiful whistle player, met him in Pat Dowlings of Prosperous in the 60s…we had things in common, both of us were ex bank clerks with great fondness for music, crack and porter…poor Tom met an early end that broke many hearts
Thanks for two great nights in Newbridge. Felt there was a special vibe at the two gigs. Nice to hear the new songs , Shine on was so special and Sonny too. You mentioned your own little Sonny asleep backstage……there are few better sights than watching a child sleep peacefully .
We found Gold and Silver in Newbridge and not a Satnav in sight. Took a spin out by the bog of Allen and Allenwood. Great roads for a Honda 50 for sure.
christy, the camera crews at the gig i was at at the (not so royal) concert hall in glasgow are they putting together a new video of your and declans work.?
Christy's reply
there will be a doc on the songs one RTE next March…more info in next chat
Sad to hear of the passing away of ‘Sonny’ although I admit I always thought Pierce Turner was that song’s writer. RIP Ron Hynes.
Good reports I see online of the hometown gigs.
I dont associate Pink Floyd songs with yourself although some of the earlier albums have ‘folky’ influences.
Christy's reply
before the Clancy’s lit my fire in 1961 I was singing Elvis, Bill Haley, Ella Fitzgerald, Frankie Lane, Heartbreak Hotel, Mess a Blues,Greendoor,CoolWater,16 Tons,Swingin Shepherd Blues,Red Sails in The Sunset down The Streets of Laredo, but since “associating” myself with “Folky” influence I been wearing a different hat then theretofore but sometimes I drift back towards the old jukebox..sang Jailhouse Rock in Athlone in 1960
Hi Christy
Of the songs you’ve covered by other artists,’Crazy Diamond…….’is one of the very best, with a wonderful provenance.
I’m wondering if you’d consider’Comfortably Numb’,sometime.Wonderful imagery in it and you’d certainly get inside its vibe.
I’d love to hear ‘Diamond’ at a show sometime but I’m chuffed to have been at two recent gigs ,so won’t get greedy……
There’s a distant ship’s smoke on the horizon….
Dave

next time you’re comin..giz the nod..I always love singing it ..
Few people know the background to the Pink Floyd song Shine on you Crazy Diamond. We have each lost friends that way. You painted its tapestry in just a sentence last Thursday before immersing yourself in the wound.
On a lighter side, my 10 grandchildren have known me as CrazyGrandPa since they were in nappies. I love the innocent way it seems to roll off their tongue. “Hi CrazyGrandPa and how are you? ……”
My Kazakh fiancé calls me Diamond. She knows how to mend broken hearts.
I am sincerely grateful to you and Declan for playing … Crazy Diamond for me at your homecoming last Thursday.
Afterwards, the Most Dedicated Follower of Christy, who hails from the Kingdom, introduced herself to me. It was a rare privilege for me. She also introduced me to the Glenties couple. Methinks our paths will cross again.
Most of all, for me it was the music, the songs and harmonies that Declan and you have master-crafted so many times. Jimmy the Tribesman adds a hint of new dimension and depth. I’m grateful your voice, wit and passion are sharp as ever.
Shine On.
Christy's reply
wanted to do it when you called it out but funked it…then sidestage, as we got an encore…Decky suggested Shine On…I risked it and , for me, it was the song of the night…noble call Jim…its like an old sean-nós song
CrazyGrandPa ! thats some cool monniker you’ve gained there Jim
CS(10) sorry to hear that you are under the weather…hope you are up and about in no time….thanks for you comments on one of the new songs, even if they were cut short..I hope I see the rest of what you were going to say…I think it may be called “Lilys of The Shortgrass” its nearly there ..Declan has suggested some different chords and there may be an adjustment to the final lyric but nothing major..greetings to all the crew…keep coming back …CM(70)
sorry I made a praiseach of the first comment…backspace published for some reason…odd
Is maith liom an t-ámhrán nua … its catchy. There was a lot of work in it I would say.the rasher and the dasher ..
Thank you so much for a great show last night, so many great highlights. Oblivious was a really great song and loved Declan’s song too, what was the name of that track? I’ve seen you 3 times in Scotland. I moved back to Newbridge in August with my husband and kiddies after 13 years in the Auld Reekie and never in a million years imagined I’d get to see you perform in Newbridge. Love the addition of Jimmy, 3 indeed is the magic number. Enjoy the next few days off & good luck with the rest of the tour. Pam
Christy's reply
Greetings Pam…welcome back to The Plains…Auld Reekie has long been a favoured place of mine…
Living “across the water” was where I realised my love of home place…I still relish visiting my hometown of origin and the townlands that surround it…
Declan’s song “Sleep out on the Beach” is included on his recently released 2nd solo album “Window on The World”…
Declan and I both benefit from the arrival of Jimmy Higgins into the Band…he locks it down, keeps us steady ….just like Declan Sinnott,Jimmy Higgins is also a songster…he listens intently to lyrics and melodies (not always the case with drummers… or guitarists!), he is aware of the colours and nuances and he responds accordingly…
Almost 30 years our junior, Jimmy is a seasoned musician with decades of experience behind him..in recent years alone he has toured with Riverdance, Altan, Mairtín O’Connor Band,The Stunning,The Sawdoctors and has drummed on countless albums. If you are quick, you may also spot him drumming in recent films “Brooklyn” and “Jimmy’s Hall”.
another super gig last night christy ,apologies for my comment “keep her going christy” after the 3rd song i got a bit carried away myself in the front row haha.great to the hear to chat about the rubber keogh and hear the new song about the home town and the great paul mccormack tune im still buzzing here and my daughter loved the gig also.thanks again christy ur some man for one man all the very best .regards

Christy's reply
Thanks Paul…it was a pleasure to see the younger ones hearing and singing the songs….thanks for all your ongoing support…great too see some old neighbours and school pals too …sorry I did not get to meet them all afterwards but I does soaked and knackered ….its straight into the oxygen tent and then the dinner !!!
Was lovely to see you back in your old home town last night . I saw many many people I knew over the years. I’ve been to many weddings in the Keadeen But never to a concert and I have to say it was a brilliant gig and thank you and Declan and Jim for giving us all a hell of a show. Sad to hear about the passing of Ron Hynes , I am sure his people have many treasured memories of him and at least for the rest of us we have his songs to remember him by. A lovely fitting tribute you gave and we all could sense the respect you had for him in the way you delivered ” Sonny’s dream ” . what a lovely song. Have yourself a stroll across the Curragh plains while you are down here …. Barney

had a good ramble on The Plains yesterday..over to The Gibbet Rath and back…just got back ahead of that ice cold shower that descended upon the sun drenched furze
Hi there Christy, such joy to see you play in Newbridge last night. It’s been a lot of years of hoping that I could coordinate being in Ireland and catching a gig. Loved Lightning Bird Wind River Man- with my little son asleep on my lap I thought my heart might crack. So lovely. Thank you. xx
Christy's reply
Thanks Kat…it was such a treat when I caught sight of your son draped across you with his little arm around your neck…the highlight of my night….hope ye have a lovely visit
Sad news of the death of Ron Hynes. It brings to mind the night in the Sligo Park when a busload of guys from Newfoundland were at your gig – all of them with Irish names and accents. They were a great bunch and a great buzz at that gig too. Hope all is well on the never ending tour.
Christy's reply
