Hello Christy,
Hope the doodling at Lanigan’s Ball is going well. It would be great to hear it live sometime. I’m enjoying the doodling too, also plenty of noodling and fiddling about. A good way to get things from the head into the hands. It sounds like your gig was a cracker last night. I’d no idea the merchandise business could be so lucrative…. I’m not sure about Mustique but I’d love a camper an to do some exploring of your beautiful green land in.
Thanks to Terry Brennan for your introduction and all the info on Yellow Furze. I love singing Christy’s song Yellow Furze Woman.
Here in Brighouse there’s a lake in the valley bottom that’s lovely to walk by. It’s called Cromwell Bottom. Never really thought about it till reading what you said. Our relationship here with Cromwell is pretty wishy washy, nothing like as intense as yours sounds. Yellow Furze it is.

We were at your fantastic gig in Tullamore last night, It’s wonderful to hear live music again – it feels like the kilter is back! We loved hearing Fairytale of New York, no matter what time of year it still brings Christmas cheer. Thanks for a great night
Best wishes

good on you Ryan….greetings to all around Boston Bay
Great to see the “House Full” on so many gigs. Slowly finding our way back to “normality” – though hopefully it will be better than the normal we had before. Looking forward to Peggy Seeger and Callum in the Heaney Homeplace this week. Nice to have a few gig tickets sitting on the table again. Bit longer between your gigs than I would have wished for but all being well our paths will be crossing soon. Sorry to see the Lily Whites letting things slip today. The quest for the one in a row goes on. Funny but one of my outstanding memories was Larry Stanley being introduced to the crowd at the centenary year All Ireland. Stay safe Christy and thank you for all that you and the crew do.

Good to hear from you John….on we go, heel to the toe
Reply to Rebeccah,,, My Name Terry Brennan ,, originally from Yellow Furze now live in Navan but Yellow Furze always be home (five miles apart)
The name Yellow Furze of great historical significance,, and though many have tried to change name of parish to Beauparc a Crowellian estate in the parish of Yellow Furze ,, the old name lives on,, and Christy’s highlighting of the name has helped greatly to that, Nancy his mother born and grew up in the Yellow Furze parish and Christy still many ties to the area,, and you will never hear him refer to it as Beauparc

Hi, hope you’re keeping well. We’re very excited to come see you in Tullamore this evening! We’ve been fortunate enough to get to four other shows on this tour but I wanted to ask will there be merchandise available for purchase tonight? A few of the shows we got to were pre Christmas and there was nothing available. It’s become a bit of a tradition over the past few years for us to buy the latest signed Christy cd at a show and then play it for months in the car! Would love the opportunity to purchase a copy of flying into mystery tonight! Thanks.
Christy's reply
our merchandise department is currently on extended leave….we have no idea of his/her/its whereabouts….after a night of huge after gig sales it disappeared off the radar..last we heard they was holidaying in Mustique and playing golf with Phil Mickleson…hopefully the takings are secure but we are left with an enormous T Shirt mountain and liitle hope of recouping an enormous outlay…they were manufactured in the Far East ,an extra large would not fit a small child
Hello Christy,
Sorry about previous comments. There’s nothing like a couple of glasses of wine to make you sound like a complete idiot.
Thankyou to Adam. I listened to the The time has come recording of Lanigan’s ball. I’ve never heard this album, it’s only recently that The time has come stopped biting me, so I haven’t got it.
It’s with bodhran only and Miss Kerrigen appears loud and clear in this version, and so does the stepping in and out thing. So many ways to sing it. Lovely. Looking at it, the main problem seems to be deciding when to come up for breath.
I listened to Brian Peters’ Songs of Trial and Triumph album yesterday. It’s going to take some absorbing.
What did he sing at the Goilin club? The two the jumped out the most yesterday were Sir Adigar and a very updated version of Six drunken nights. I’d no idea that was a Child ballad. His version is a scream. I guess it gives an idea of the impact the original would have had when it was new.
their is a few good versions of lanigans ball, one on the just christy moore lp, second on the the has come album and another on the early years album, the one on the time has come is a nice version.

great to see you at The Peggy Seeger /Calum MacColl…what a lovely gig
Heading to Tullamore tomorrow night,, Concert and overnight stay, no expense spared, gift from children and I could not ask for better , I would love to hear December 1942,, if it was possible
Visiting Waterford July 1st with my dad to see you. I’m a singer and voice teacher working at showing my students the world of traditional and folk music. I’ve recorded covers of Nancy Spain and Beeswing for my dad as gifts. If you have room on stage for a little Newfoundland gal, my dad might just pee his pants.
Lovely to hear about the great Peggy Seeger and Calum.. Inspirational. They played the Town Hall here last week, though I was gigging myself and could not make it.. hope to catch them before they leave the sod.. Gigging again in Ballyjamesduff (“Come back Paddy Reilly..”) next Friday and regrettably can’t make the SR gig..I’ll be there in spirit..the rattle of the chandeliers.. Murtaghs is still going in Kingscourt..

Hello Christy,
I think we may have mentioned the song title 16 or so times now, so sorry to anyone who fancied guessing. Please feel free to still have a go though, I’m not sure anyone has got it right yet.
I know this song through your recording on Early Years, so I got out the Christy Moore album on polydor and had a listen. I’m pretty sure this is the source recording used for Early Years? There was a piper doing scales in my other ear…
Miss Kerrigan doesn’t make an appearance in these recordings, which was a relief as I was worried I’d lost a whole verse.
She appears in the version in Irish Street Ballads, bright as a rose, but there’s no stepping out and in again.
Wondering who you learnt it from.
Songs living and growing. Love it.
Brian Peters’ CD Song of, Trial and Triumph turned up yesterday. Looking forward to hearing it.

I think I encountered the song in Colm O’Lochlainn’s “Irish Street Ballads”….any variations from that source would have emerged over years of peformance….the “Early Years” album was compiled from the earlier albums…I’ll have a listen later today…..I seldom listen back….. when I do, lots of memories are re kindled
We went to hear Peggy Seeger & Calum MacColl last night….it was a beautiful concert…Peggy was simply wonderful, her voice, her playing, her repertoire, her warmth, her humour, her love of life all enthralling
Calum at her side, a master of accompaniment, his own songs fitting perfectly with his Mother’s repertoire.
I first heard Peggy 55 years ago in The Mucky Byre, St.Andrews, Fife . Back then she was gigging with Ewan MacColl. A spirit of duende still prevails
Hi Christy,
me and my family are just before our holiday trip to Ireland to see
you the 25th in Cork.I got my tickets two years ago and my son
was to young for a concert. Now he is six and the biggest fan outside Ireland. We tried to get a ticket for him but it was impossible. He don’t need a separate seat and I don’t want to have a free ticket but if you
have a possibility to help us that we could see the show with our son
together.
Thanks in advance
Had a ball trying to guess the song Rebecca but afraid the Lanigan line gave it away.

Hello Christy,
Maybe we should leave the song here. No point raking the unwanted things up. I’ve enjoyed exploring it immensely.
I need to see Peggy Seeger and her son live. Thankyou for the nudge. I’ll look for dates.

it aint unwanted here !…since you brought it up I’ve been doodling with it again

Hello Christy,
I think that’s a new one…?
Just lovely.
Sounds to me like it’s dying for an outing.
Those secret places in our hearts bring joy forever, don’t they.

“Lanigan’s Ball”may have been on a 1976 album simply called “Christy Moore”on the Polydor label.
Had a ball trying to guess the song Rebecca but afraid the Lanigan line gave it away.
