Hows things on the Eastren front.?
Any planting going on? Only one marrow plant has come up this year .They were like 12 soldiers on the window sill while I had C19.I struggled but still watered the ungrateful lot.I am like, what the heck, where are the rest of ye?
I’m glad for a drop of rain today it’s been weeks now ,drawing water to the donkeys back at cloch na toirní its 1,000 steps.
Theres a water hole there called “Poll na Pocaide” ,the tide has started coming in on it and the donkey turn their noses up to it …costal erosion.
The covid has left me “cláraithe” I fell asleep in history class. The teacher said “téigh abhaile a mhac”
How are the energy levels after C19 with gigs ?Everybody needs a break.

He’s such an inspiration to me, when I start exploring a new song I always want to strip away until I get to the essence of it.
It’s not often it’s presented to us with such purity.
I like what Laoise Kelly does with the bare fifths. It’s something I do too.

Some Shane/Jem Finer songs have a certain aura about them…its as if they were old at birth….(like a new guitar built to appear “distressed”)…”A pair of Brown Eyes” has that quality…it also takes me to where I go with John Jacko’s songs…its a mysterious place, but I always feel good when I get there….
Listening to this again I was taken aback to hear how far I have veered from the melody as sung by John….I think I need to get back to it
Hi Christy,
we finally had the chance to see you live in a concert in the INEC Arena in Killarney on Saturday 23rd April. We came all the way from South Tyrol/Italy just for you. The concert more than made up for our 29 hours trip to the venue.
After the first song we thought it was GRAND, after the second song we already knew we would be coming back for other concerts at the next possible occasion when we hopefully will also have a few days to explore your beautiful country.
Following you and your music for quite a few years, we got a small insight into the history, the life and heart and soul (!) of the Irish.
If you ever feel like touring through South Tyrol (which, by the way, has a similar history as Ireland) we will be sitting in the first row again! 😉
Life is an ocean and love (music) is a boat,
in troubled water that keeps us afloat…
See you next time!

So happy to see you on a gallop and the songs pouring out of you. It’s a joy to watch.
I was listening to A pair of brown eyes last night and I felt like I was listening to a, traditional song. It jumped right into the middle of it. Staring into the fire is a great thing for thoughts.

We had a proper Sligo gathering at the Hawk’s Well last night…
listeners came from Coolooney and Coolaney, Strandhill and Coney Island,
Queen Maeve was winkin at BenBulben,
Seamie O’Dowd was on his Revox,
Tommie Gorman reporting for The Champion,
Yeats turning in his grave and Westlife nowhere to be seen
as the Garravogue made for the Atlantic, I was in my element
Ben Bulben looking spectacular in the sunshine as we drove past….. I guess it always does ….
Great to be back on the banks of the Garravogue again….. Yeats Country hard to beat.
Looking forward to the gig and a bit of a gaggle…. you can’t keep the 4711ers down for too long.

Hi Christy, now that things are kind of back on an even keel,do you have any plans on returning to The Barrowland in the near future? Michael
Christy's reply
Thanks Michael,
In recent times there have been numerous queries concerning a possible return to Barrowland….this is particularly gratifying … it is one of my favourite rooms in the world to play. Things are slowly returning here…different factors emerge with passing time…all I can say for defininte is I’d love to climb the stair again…to waltz with Mags McIvor to the beat of The Gay Birds….to jitterbug and boogie the night away with Jinksy and Our lady of The Clyde ,,,,
Hello Christy,
I think if you don’t include Prince Monolulu it would be a crime.
Talking of poets performing their own stuff. This has got to give us the best chance of getting it, hasn’t it. If they can’t put across what they meant then the rest of us have no chance.
I studied Dylan Thomas at college. I love the ones we worked on, the others are lots of words in a row. No clue what’s going on in there. But I love the ones we studied.
His sentences are miles long.
Here’s a bit of well organised mayhem to blow the cobwebs away. https://youtu.be/KI5zd9eNSlc

Amongst the chat last weekend, were school memories. A very traditional all boys school, and many teachers out of touch with late 60’s teenagers. An exception was ‘Barney’, an elderly English teacher.
He had it sussed that he had to come up with some decent poetry to keep our attention. He managed it brilliantly by sharing his passion for the works of W B Yeats. He read, then we discussed numerous poems, but there was never a better behaved class than the day he hit us with ‘The Second Coming’. Not many teachers to whom I’m grateful, but Barney is well up the list, especially, as I recently re read the powerful poem.
Have a great day

Similar here except my memories are from the early 60s ..I had many teachers across 5 years in secondary school..mainly clergymen with a few lay teachers…many of them decent men..but one stood out as a beacon of enlightenment….we called him Coot …his name was Fr. Henry Flanagan O.P…..he taught English and Art…he was musical director of both Choir and annual Operetta, he ran a Gramaphone society and an Arts & Crafts workshop……on top of this he was Assistant Headmaster and dispenser of Discipline…. ( daily canings)..many years later I asked him about the caning ( of which I was a very frequent recipient)…he said he took the job thinking he could dispense it evenly and fairly..adding that he hated the task
Henry was a noted sculptor and had solo exhibitions at “serious” art galleries… I kept in touch with him until he died…I am fortunate to have two of his sculptures in my workroom….I think of him every day
Hi christy, needing some kip as its the early ( non p&o) ferry to the north of ireland before a flying visit to cashel and i then enjoy 4 days at punchestown from

Farewell to Pripyat is one of my favourite songs. Their is a good version of this on the 6 disc box set also I think there is a version of this song recored around 1986 1987 at the national stadium. I must see if I can dig that tape out .
