Morning Christy and all,
I agree about the importance of lyrics, to me they are the essence of ‘folk’. In my teens the protest songs were not pretty but they put me on the right road.
I love music but apart from piano lessons at school my limit is the paper and comb.
Agree with Rory we believe we’ve all got something of the wordsmith in us and are just waiting to write that great song or novel.
Feel so sorry for all the problems fans are having with access to your concert, seems a lot of plans are spoilt.
All the best to you all. Pam
I fully agree with Rory, Rebecca et al. Words are so significant, especially in ‘folk’ music.
I remember making this point before, but worth repeating (especially, if it prompts people to enjoy your lockdown posts)that there’s such a high amount of syncopation/ links between your singing and guitar playing. I’d been aware of it on gigs, especially – but could really appreciate it close up from the workroom. It shows how much work and attention to detail you put in. An example to all players… i
nteresting that there are reports of younger audients attending gigs – hopefully, some are also players. If they study the lockdown sessions, they’re in for a treat…back in the day,for me, it was the ‘Christy Moore song book’ from Walton’s in Dublin!
Hello Christy,
I’ve got to agree with Rory, I love the words.
The ones that evoke feelings and paintcpictures. Bright Blue Rose, listen.
The ones that tell a story. I thought my way through Billy Gray this morning.
The ones that help us understand. The contender, the bridge, lawless.
Some build a whole world, reel in the flickering light.
I love the way the words work with the melody. For me it’s rhythm first, then shapes is harder.
Then trying to work out how to support the whole thing with the harp.
Dear Christy,
It is the Keenan Evangelist here.
One of his lesser vaunted , slightly older, songs contains a quite amazing array of lyrics i wanted to share.
The song SNAKES AND LADDERS includes stories of The King of Ethiopia, a Tenth Century Well, Drunken Moth, a Heart’s Murmuration, the Garvaghy Road, Lazarus and a Tear on a Breastplate ,amongst others.
Stunning lyrics.
I am often drawn to the lyric ( like Me and the Rose or Lisdoonvarna) because , perhaps, i stupidly think I Could Do That , whilst knowing that i could never write one single note.
Take care
Rory
Just noticed your reply to Arrgee there and in the same boat. I was actually on ticketmaster ahead of the normal booking opening ready to do battle for the new tickets. I saw that a presale was under way and wondered idly why I didn’t have a link for that. You can imagine the frustration when the link came through this morning a day late and a dollar short. Had the original tickets for my mother’s Christmas present and they were being keenly anticipated.
If a solution emerges, it will be much appreciated.
Similar to arrgee1991 I had tickets for 16th but sadly only got the presale code at 5am the day after the sale. Not to worry these things happen.
My question is, given that some of us were really looking forward to the gigs, would it be an option to stream the show for those who missed out similar to the virtual gig ya did from the concert hall?
Loving the new album and congrats again on the Hall of Fame award. I’ve no doubt I’ll be seeing ya somewhere in 2022 please god.
I’ve had some emails from listeners asking about my spare tickets for 9th January. I’m really sorry but I’ve offered them to Welle, who asked about them first
If they become available again I’ll post straight away on here. I could have sold them a dozen times over.
Just received the presale link at 8 Dec 7am. Unfortunately this is a day too late for me. The presale link is of no use now. I tried to replace the tickets for 9 Jan I originally bought yesterday, but they sold out when I tried at 9am .
Disappointed as this was a treat for my wife and I had paid for travel to Dublin along with accommodation.
Understand nothing could be done about 50% capacity, but it seems unfair that having already purchased tickets there was no priority for those who had purchased them first time around.
Hoping someone will resell a couple of tickets.
Christy's reply
Arrgee..I understand your frustration…its been a logistical nightmare for the different agencies involved…I know that every effort was made to save the gigs, albeit at the imposed 50% capacity..had it been possible ticket holders would have had preference in the resale…but it could not be done..
I’ll put the word about to see if anything can be done to alleviate your situation…in the past, difficult problems have been solved on this very site…hope it works out for you
sorry Christy i also meant to say that on Radio 4 at either 9,45am or 1.45pm (cant remember but will also be on iplayer) each day next week are a series of 5 portions of the writings of the unparalleled poet Seamus Heaney….better send out for two hard boiled eggs to calm my nerves as i wait for it.

Christy's reply
a giant of a gentle man….his way with words never fails to moisten…even when I might not quite know whats he’s taliking about, I’ll stop and have a listen….no matter where or what, he never seemed to lose the run of himself…always loyal to his roots in “the moss”
Good evening Christy,
I heard today ,on the news, that there is a disused shopping centre near Nottingham (brookmarsh or something like that) that is being to be allowed to be re-wilded.
Great news, wild boars feeding on manequins eyes, cashmachines for nests of weeds, rabbits hopping around empty stores and peace in the valley once again.
No huge loss to me that another drive-to, soulless, regulation shops, obligatory doughnut drive through, 50% off lifestyle, is heading to it’s end ,there at least.
Well anticipated you and the Handsome Family. Burning Times is such a great album.
regards Rory
Christy's reply
You’re a star man Rory, it tickles my fancy when you back reference earlier work..you remind me of magic moments when those recordings were laid down…I recall too the sequence of events that led me to hearing The Handsome Family….that great venue,Connolly’s of Leap (Lepp), a handwritten poster in the shop window…. “live tonight, from USA, Handsome Family”….we pulled in, put on the hand-brake, and the rest is (my) history
fill us two pints there Phyllis like a good woman,& I’ll have a wee drop while they’re settling, and perhaps you might take something yourself, thats a horrible evening and, tell me, how is your poor mother keeping ?..I hear she fell off her bike comin home from early Mass this morning…but thanks be to God she was still able to milk…I suppose you’ll be at the dance tonight, that Brendan Bowyer, he’s some buck to go..the priest read him off the altar at the half eleven this morning, god between us and all harm, I think them pints might be near settled, my god girl but I’ve a horrid thirst on me….(to be contd…)
Hello Welle,
I’ve no idea how it happened but I ended up with 4 tickets on 9th Jan, instead of the 2 tickets that I wanted.
So I’ve got two spare. Would this help?
They’re not great seats, block B, first row. We were originally on the front row.
But these two tickets are here if you’d like to email me Moonsongstress@aol.com

Thanks Rebecca..that is great ..hope it works out..fair play to you
Hello Christy,
I want to thank all the people in your team, ticketmaster, Aiken Promotions and Vicar street for rescuing nearly all your gigs.
Sitting here it’s difficult to understand all the things they must have had to deal with to make this happen. No one knows what it’s like unless they’re doing it.
So grateful for all this. Just got to get across an ocean now, we’re all trying so hard.
we still take The Manchester Guardian….an Uncle (in law) of mine, Francis Knowles from Whalley Range worked at the printing for many years..himself and all his brothers worked at Newspaper print back in the time of Thompson House..it was thirsty work
Thank you for a truly wonderful performance last night, with a brilliantly composed set list, and Spancilhill! And the atmosphere at Vicar Street adds another dimension.
How did everyone do?
We’re in on 9th January.
I don’t know what it is with ticketmaster but I always struggle with it.
Here’s Rocky road to Dublin from the Barrowland sound check on the life on the road documentary. Captured it right after the rugby on Sunday afternoon https://youtu.be/bDloDFvJJhI
Love it.

I struggle with lots of stuff in recent years as the world changes with increasing rapidity….
re Ticketmaster/Aiken Promotions/my own team…I gotta say they have worked long and hard to rescue all but one of my gigs in the current lock down scenario….the rescheduled 50% capacity gigs would not have happened without their co-operative efforts….
I’ll be having a listen to “Rocky Road to Barrowland”….thank you
