Dear Christy,
Yesterday i had my first day working away for 6 months, in the ghost town of an always rainy Manchester.
As i drove the motorway home i passed the sign for the Heysham ferry, as many dozens of times before, but this time it got to me.
I mumbled some lines over and over.
Little did Giuseppe know he’d never see the Falls road again….
Fate was dealing them a cruel hand….
For Giuseppe Conlon, for Paddy Hill and the other men, Heysham was a place or a name on the roadway to a hell of injustice and suffering.
You have skilfully woven that place into those two songs, i have played them several times since returning home. They are worthy songs, truthful, stirring, understated.
We will not forget.
We shall overcome.
Rory

Same here Rory…first gig in 6 months….in North County Clare…in the Spa Town of Lios Dún Bhearna….
To you and our companeros, excuse self indulgence… I’ve just dug out a very (VERY)rough and ready recording of a gig we played in 2014.Totally unedited, having been recorded by the event organiser, but a souvenir of a fun night in a local cafe/second hand record shop.Opening song is ‘January Man’…sadly,’Beatnik’ is long gone, but holds great memories, especially of the 10/1/2014 night.
I’ve just revisited http://www.annemargaretdaniel.com for the first time in awhile.First noticed after all her excellent Dylan writings, there’s an excellent ‘Waterboys’ piece under her ‘blog’ section…ace videos too. Well worth a few minutes…lovely sounds and images.
Hello Christy,
Well, the nerves have started again for tomorrow’s open mic at the grove. I can go about twice as fast on the exercise bike when I feel like this. I hope all your work is going well. You said you’re up to your eyes in new songs and singing old songs to relax. Im thinking I need to put more hours in now. The day job is flexible but I do have to do it. Doing my best here.
Hello Kevin,
I listened to your lovely song. I really like the noise you make.
Can I quote you on that haha. Thank you for taking time to listen to the song and to say I’m glad you like it is an understatement. I am going to be releasing a few others over the coming weeks as part of an EP called Don’t Be Afraid (Noli Temere), I’ll fire you a link to them if thats okay.
I showed our ones your comments and told them if they are having a bad day to remember at some stage Christy Moore will be listening to their brothers song today. Struttin’ like a peacock hahahaha.
As well as all the good chat and news here,it’s always good to have access to new songs,Fair play to Kevin…great song and performance. As St Bob said a few decades ago ,’Spanish is the loving tongue’.
I hope you’re enjoying the prep for the NCH gig.A great buzz about it ,which is welcome, for sure.
This one is called No Tengo Mas Que Darte ( I Have Nothing More to Give You). It’s the inscription on a gold ring that belonged to a sailor of the Spanish Armada. His ship was wrecked on the Antrim coast and he was lost to the sea. I saw this ring on display in the Ulster Museum and hopefully this song captures some of the emotions of those involved…
Hi Christy,
Hope you’re keeping well. Just giving you a shout to see about sending you a few original tunes I have recorded recently and how to best get them to you. Your music has been a constant source of enjoyment, inspiration and a reliable companion for as long as I can remember. Thought I’d try and share some music with you in return.
Thanks a million
Kevin
Hello Christy,
I hope the music is flowing for you.
I’m going great guns with gortatagort and 16 fishermen. It’s one situation where sublime to ridiculous doesn’t sound stupid. Maybe ethereal to visceral.
I love both of them so much. I played both of them for my harp teacher yesterday. She seems to be having as much fun with my songs as I am.
I have got started with Yellow Furze Woman. I’ve been listening all last week. On Saturday I got down to business. Its now in a key I can sing, it starts on an F. I think I’ve stopped arguing with myself over chords. The melody has a beautiful shape to it. I don’t always notice this before singing it. It was the same with this one. Once the breath goes through it something happens.
I hope its all flowing for you.

Back from a weeks holiday in beautiful Ballycastle in the Antrim Glens and the most North Easterly point of Ireland Have set the record button for Whelan’s at 25. Read way back that in the early 70’s, the teenage Philip Chevron booked you to play a gig and that in years to come you shared stages. Just listened to you singing his song Faithful Departed in Whelan’s 2013…thankfully you never grasped the wrong end of the stick…cherished. Dust her down arís agus arís eile! Christy le grá Mary

Hey Christy, checking in to say hi, looking forward to the live stream event, looks like a 3pm New York start time…I’m sure your happy to be working again as odd as it all is at the moment. Take care and we will be applauding from the armchair and shouting requests at the screen. Best regards Christy.

Good to hear from you Brian…..hope you are all safe and healthy….thanks for listening
Dear Christy, I bumped into you one afternoon c.1971 In the foyer of the student union at Queens, Belfast. You were with some of Planxty and the late John Martyn for a gig in the union that evening. I seem to recall you were on the hunt for a tele to watch an All-Ireland semi. I met you about 7 years later in the bar of the Apollo in Manchester before the Planxty gig. I was introduced by your cousin (Mike?j from Salford who was doing the same course as me at Mcr Poly. My then girlfriend asked if you would play Follow Me Up To Carlow which you duly did; much to her delight. I’ve been to a number of your gigs since, most recently a couple of years ago on the South Bank in London. I wonder if I could put a suggestion your way? How would you feel about covering Mother Of Muses from Bob Dylan’s latest album? It’s a beautiful song from the heart of immense spirit , experience and sincerity. The musical setting seems, to me at least, to borrow a little bit from Irish music. Anyways, it’s just a suggestion for what it’s worth.
In the meantime I hope you’re keeping well and cheerful in these covid-impacted times.
With best wishes to you, yours and for continuing prosperity, both musical and otherwise.

I well remember those gigs with John Martyn…it was a dark time in the wee 6….John was such a great talent….only met him twice after that time….
Dylan’s latest album is so good….I’ve listened to it right thru twice….he set his own bar very high 50 years ago and continues to clear it…had another listen to his “Mother of Muses” on the back of your prompt….what a wonderful song….
doubt if I could cover it….these times I need to feel like I can inhabit a song before taking it on…this song is so personal to Dylan….over the years I’ve sung “Tribute to Woody” “Pity the Poor Immigrant” and “Lonesome Death of Hattie Carroll”…in each case he is describing events that I can imagine ….in “Mother of Muses” he is sharing deeply his innermost thoughts….seems like he’s reflecting upon the approach of the inevitable….
that said, I could be tempted !! the melody and structure are pure gorgeous….
always happy to hear from a long-haul listener… I dont have any Cousin Mike from Salford ..got cousins in Bury and Sheffield one of whom may have been at M/CR Poly ….he works in Ceramics now and also teaches
Dear Christy,
I have been fixed on Whatever Tickles for a few days, and she is spinning away on the turntable just now.
Loving particularly Home by Bearna, maybe not an often played gig tune recently, but how great it would be to hear Cathal get stuck into it.
My parents passed another marital milestone last week, and i worked out they had been married for 21.184 days on their latest anniversary. That is very roughly also how long you have been gigging, whilst Hilary may know, have you any idea how many gigs you have put on in your various guises?
It must be many’s a cabaret !
Still loving your music, it brings such joy.
