I admire the time you take to comment these posts, and the thoughtfulness of your answers… As the wind blows from the Rhine Valley today, it carries a whispered wish for „Black is the Colour“ to Ireland‘s shores… this song flowed through my mind when I read your reply, for what reason ever (maybe just because of its beauty). We will enjoy whatever is on the setlist, anyway 😉.
By the way, I like the way you describe yourself as a gatherer of words and notes… and such a fine one that out comes a colourful picture full of life each time you sing a song. What a gift! Thanks for sharing, and long may we listen!

Apart from several re runs of the excellent Moore family lockdown production yesterday,the bunker was rocking to a succession of Billy Bragg -BB and Wilco LPs…’Between the wars’,being an especially powerful song.No surprise that the Guthrie family asked Billy to work on unfinished Woody songs a few years ago…I’ve only seen one BB gig,which was a fine experience…have you ever shared ideas/met up? Also,a great mix of protest songs at http://www.radiox.co.uk a very varied choice.
Waiting for the next political revelation here…today’s playlist will have to include Show of Hands-‘Arrogance,ignorance and greed’..

I met Billy once on a flight from Melbourne to Perth….he was going to perform in support of a Builder’s Strike and I tagged along

Hope ur keepin well with all this going on at the moment , im not on on the facebook but my kids are keepin me up to date with the the bits ur doing from home and with andy .the mother told me on the 7th to send u a message to wish u a happy birthday im a small bit late but hope u had a good one happy 40th .i have a small list done for when we get back to some kind of normal and if i have to travel to the red house ,the riverbank ,liverpool ,barrowlands the killasehee ur top of the list christy .ur some man christy lookin forward to see to ..all the very best to christy .helen says hello see u soon take care

Thank you Christy for the “few songs”. You always put me in mind of my Dad – since he used to drive me around with “The Voyage” in the tape-deck of the Renault 16, to seeing you Live at the Point with him in ’94, and sure you have a bit of a look of him too. Now he’s gone I feel closest to him out in my garden, doing a bit, watched by our friends the Robins. So seeing you play The Gardener, there well, it was just perfect. Thanks Christy, stay safe, and we’ll see you on stage some day soon again….

Shortens the time til the next concerts, whenever they will be possible again… Great to read in your answers that you plan to continue with these home sessions! To play the jukebox: what about Rob Corcoran’s Ringing that Bell or Go, move, shift. However you decide, I’m definitely looking forward to watching/listening to more of your songs, and as Dave has written: please let us see your left hand to hopefully find out how to play some songs on our own.

Well Christy you have got on the old facebook, better than me, i cannot so Hilary kindly sent me a video link,just watched it, magic music thanks.
You were asking for songs to sing next time, and so i do have a treble of requests, they might not even come in on an each way basis ,but paddy power have given me 75/1 perming any two from three for next week.
1 Taking tea with pinochet
2 Natives
3 a cover of the sex pistols ‘god save the queen’.
watching on the video ,just now ,i was reminded that i must buy barry mclaughlin’s book about frank ryan and his heroes, not via amazon mind you, so that will at last be done, and if lockup continues i shall have it read within the time a candle takes to burn to the quick in the bunker.
Lastly i heard myself today say i was getting a bit bored, bored ( ! ) i screamed at myself inside, there are people dying, died, lost their jobs, parted from their families by this, and i said i was bored, pathetic. so i gave myself a right good kick up the old arse.

Playing catch-up here…… busy week at work….. one of the lucky ones .
Mighty to see/hear you sing for us again…. we’ve been hoping it would happen somehow. Two great songs from two great songsmiths.
I guess your repertoire stretches to 200 to 300 or more songs so that should fill a few weeks through these strange times until we all get back on the road.
i wonder if you realize how much of a lift this gives to so many.

Haha Abu Dhabi is currently touching on 40 degrees and we’re all sweltered!! A far cry from my hometown of Monaghan! I’m not 100% sure about the h, but I was told it was the real old Irish spelling. Pronounced the same as Eimear or Emer! In the Middle East they like to pronounce it “I’m here”..
