A certain singer said these words at the very end of a certain box set ( when talking of dark times for our precious world), and
all of us who dip into this website think we have found someone who fits those words for us. Seeing the outpouring of affection for your 75th, it is you Christy.
Every now and then i encounter a special person or true artist and i experience a small glimmer of hope that
Maybe ,just maybe ,the power of goodness will
Blossom and expand ,hand in hand with the power of god ,and enable us to survive.
Hi Christy, hope you are all safe and healthy, here a piece of writing I’m working on, hope it hits home .
She showed a simple act of kindness
She didn’t have to hold her hand
The chart it said Covid 19
With compassion whispered “ you’ll be grand”
Chorus
For god sake keep your distance
For the love of god wash your hands
For those that ignore the warnings
You may never understand
The doctor came and said “don’t worry “
We’ll do everything we can
His voice was kind and reassuring
As tears fell from this poor man
He showed a simple act of kindness
At her bedside held her hand
He sang a song so sweet and gentle
Only songbirds understand
You are the best , You first Responders
You are heroes , health care worker’s
Thanks to all Doctors and Nurses
Fighting for us one and all
Hope you like it’s sentiments Christy
Stay safe , as Liam said lord rest him , “it’s as easy to do the right thing as do the wrong thing, do the right thing people, it’s saving other people’s lives and maybe your’s , I nearly won the Curragh OAFrontline auction, it got hot at the end with meself and Tom Treacy lol, it was a lovely gesture thank you , love Fin
Hello Christy,
I had a listen to Declan McLaughlin. Hadn’t heard him before. The rhythm oozes out of him, doesn’t it😊. He made me think of Billy Joel.

Checking the donkeys last night at precisely 12:55 am.
In the North East sky I saw a massive green fire ball it split into 2 and fell to earth.
I feel it was very close .I stood for a minute and said to myself what the heck did I just see.
Anyone else see it?Is this lockdown business driving me cracked?
Off to get my metal detector.

PS Do you think the Pride of Petavore had an influence on the pride of Letir Mór Vice versa the names are so similar….?
Christy's reply
are’nt you the luck man to have seen such a beautiful thing
re “The Pride of Petravore”.its one of the songs my father used to sing (Andy Moore 1915-1956) he was a lovely singer.. another of his was “The garden where the praties grow” and then he might burst into “I’ve got a Lovely Bunch of coconuts”
Its well known that WB Yeats, Percy French and Scotland’s Robbie Burns were all partial to a bit of plagiarising of certain older songs from the tradition… Pete Seeger is reputed to have said that plagiarism is an essential tool for any folk song writer….Old Zimmy himself has not been shy to employ in few lines of old lyric and/or music in his lifelong musings .. and why not… the ancient songs have survived for a very good reason.. some of them are absolutely brilliant
“if I could lay me hands upon the robber
that stole away the pride of Leitir Mór”
Christy, hope all is well with your good self. I see Declan McLaughlin has finally gotten his music on to Spotify and other streaming platforms. I believe he has supported you in Derry previously. Damien Dempsey calls him The Derry Springsteen, not a bad wrap! Was interested to hear your thoughts.
Hi Christy,
So here we are in Vancouver Canada … hanging out by ourselves because we are doing our best to social distance and do what we can to keep healthy and safe. We both work in some form of seniors care so we are responsible, since we are still able to work, to keep well as to not inadvertently bring something into our workplace that might be detrimental to the health of others.
These are certainly extraordinary times and really, who would have thought at Christmas as we celebrated together that this would be our reality only a few short months into the future.
Anyway, we were sitting on our patio, enjoying a wonderful Vancouver evening while listening to our favourite … you of course!
Hope you and yours are doing well. Keep healthy and take care!
Best regards,
Sylvia and Bernard

I loved my 3 visits to Vancouver…the bounce of the floor in the cool Commodore
and fellow rapscallions… after reading numerous references to the poetry of Walt Whitman (often with reference to Bob Dylan’s admiration of his work)I finally remembered to look further…so glad I did…and would like to recommend him here (with apologies to those who will already be familiar with the esteemed Mr W)
I hit on ‘When I Heard The Learn’d Astronomer’,which stopped me in my tracks, and I now look forward to further exploration…better late than never.
The end of another day in the bunker and now I’m supposed to be alert…
The passing of a famous musician is always poignant…Little Richard was so vital to the changes made by rock n roll…and, superb that Dylan paid such a brilliant tribute-so quickly…Robert Zimmerman’s year book when he was c 16,shows the depth of his admiration of Little Richard, from early days…
Some excellent writings/podcasts about Dylan’s current activities…
as mentioned previously… http://www.annemargaretdaniel.com and a recent find…www.definitelydylan.com and great anticipation re the new Dylan LP,due in a few weeks…
In the meantime,we all do our best to ‘keep on keepin’ on’
Hi Christy. How’s your thumb? Talking about soreness, I have worn out the barbed wire around my 26-year-old knickers! So, please can you have a whip-round and find me a chastity belt? The atmosphere of “Changes” from the “Box Set” sends me off across the Irish Sea. Is there still barbed wire around Dublin Ferryport? HELP!!!
Hi Christy hope all is well . And that you had a good birthday.. came across a good version of dark end of the street by Jimmy Barnes with dann Penn https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=nwLZ271g-jg
Saw u were asking on the lyrics section did any one have a dvd copy of the documentary film were you and Keith Donald played dark end of the street did u ever get a copy ?
Great bird update ,Rory…I’ve just looked in on the Californian peregrine chicks..no idea what the parents feed them, but it must be high energy grub…the ‘kids’ must have doubled in size in the last week or so…
Back to folk radio..for those who are interested, but don’t want to get bogged down/too diverted…under ‘genres’ and via ‘Celtic’,there are ace pieces on Julie Fowlis and maestro,John Doyle…
I’m away for the allowed walk now…heading for birdsong…
Hi Christy,
Dave’s musical tips, hilary’s info and Mary’s literary advices are a daily boost, this forum ( and ALL contributions) is just fabulous, even before we touch base with the old bunker man himself.
I have spent two lovely hours in the company of a fledgling blackbird ,feeding on my crumbs at my feet in the sun. He or she, and his perched nearby folks clearly adore the Box Set version of ‘folk tale’.
I know i have mentioned it before ,but the melody, gentleness and your own blackbird singing away to it on the recording seem to draw them in to listen and join in. It is a song i enjoy playing on repeat loop. Thanks.
Regards
Rory
Hi Christy, wishing you a belated happy birthday. Can’t wait until the world gets back to some sort of normality & can see you live again. Was introduced to your music over 20 years ago & to quote a line from – If I get an encore, “I was bitten by the ballads and ever since that wound has never healed” 😉. Have been playing Bodhrán about 7 years now, the 1st one I bought was signed by yourself after a beautiful intimate gig in Kells in the old handball ally a few years ago now sits pride of place over a large sliding door in my kitchen overlooking the hill of Tara. Thanks for your wonderful music all through the years, it’s gotten me through some testing times, and definately continues to do so now. Stay safe Christy & keep the head right 🎻🙂.

for you and fellow bunker residents, wherever they may be …the above website has an abundance of ‘good stuff’…especially, the ‘current show’ that includes the latest Dylan release…and I’m never passing up a chance to hear John Martyn…
How ya christy.
Great to hear ya on the wireless with ray the other day.But one question I need to know is what’s your highest score on snake?
Ya said ya had an old Nokia so ya must be king at snake at this stage!!!!😂
Happy birthday man!
The music is keeping the spirits high!
Happy birthday Christy. Great to hear you on the radio the past few weeks. I’m enjoying being at home with the family and getting to ask Alexa to shuffle songs from yourself each morning. It’s a different way of life. Were blessed with the weather. Never realised the Curragh was such a fantastic amenity. Full of families every day all spread out and away from each other. Kids have started a trail kilometres long of painted rocks all thanking frontline services , messages of hope and support painted on them and different kids tv characters. Lovely to see. Among all the grief and fear theres happiness too. Stay safe and enjoy the break. Thanks for the decades of music.
