Firstly thanks to yourself and the 3 boys for putting on such a great show last night, ye were all in flying form. Secondly thanks so much for the shoutout to Holly. She was mesmerized for the 2 hours last night, took her a while to take it all in but she can’t stop talking about it today. A really nice touch, it’s not easy at times, this living abroad craic and we live for the 1 or 2 weeks each year that we get home here – last night was always going to be a great night with great people but you made it extra special, and you made a little girl (and her parents very happy). We all appreciate that. It’ll live long in the memory. Thanks again and take it easy

Holly was the star of the night for me…she never missed a beat nor a chorus..there was a lovely light shining from her…..usually, very young listeners can falter after an hour or so but She stayed with us to the very end….
Thanks Christy for the connection. I’m glad the Milltown days were good times for you. And for my Dad. You remind me of the names from my childhood – Magin, Prendergast… They moved from the bars long after and came to each other’s houses, playing cards, switching from poker to Solo. So many highlights from it.
You could hear a pin drop when you rang the voyage, the trad set with the lads was majic.
The Mother and fatherr in law can’t wait till you come back next year they really enjoyed, especially the mother in law who hasn’t seen you live since you played in prosperous in the 70s.
Here’s to the next gig on home land.

I still feel a deep connection with the Homeland of Cill Dara…..I lived there for the first 18 years of my life, those were the years that branded me….much as I love the four corners, the highways and byeways, I always retain a soft spot for the Plains of Sweet Kildare…..golden memories of boyhood scenes….learning to swim in The Liffey waters, kicking the ball and winning a county medal u14, mitching in the Seven Springs,paper chasing across Flood’s Field, bottles of ale in Hanly’s Jungle, square bashing in the FCA,heart breaking crushes,the train to Portlaois to see Kildare play Laois,Punchestown Races,dancing in Dreamland…..
(there are many painful memories too but we all have our own shit to deal with….)
First class last night in the Killashee hotel was 100 percent worth the flight over from Scotland in the Gael force winds I’ve saw you in many a venue up and down the uk over the last 20 odd years but you saved your best for your home county what a show I might come back in tonight if there’s spares on the door 💚🇮🇪

Last time I played in Prosperous was 1978 with Liam Óg, Donal Lunny and Andy Irvine…it was a the start of Planxty’s re-union and we played in Pat Dowlings prior to heading off on an 8 country European jaunt….in retrospect I’d have preferred doing 8 weeks in Prosperous….Continental Céilí is on a list of songs I hope some day to revive but it wont he ready for tonight….

Tue nights out in Miltown was like our Las Vegas….I have happy memories of those times….your Dad and Uncle Con playing cards in the front shop with “The Red Lad” Prendergast, Pat McGinn, “Long Paddy P, and whoever else might drop in….in the back room the Ballads would kick-off….if things went well we’d adjourn to Angie’s Kitchen after where the songs would resound ’til dawn….
lovely to get your note, to know that your Mother was in attendance last night, to have that link with almost 60 years ago……

sound Donal..what lovely observations you share…. it was a similar in the front row…a 14 year old listening with his Father and Grandmother…Its a priviledge to have such age diversity among listeners…..
I sometimes get a glimpse of the audience when the lights go up….to see that gathering of faces all listening, singing, requesting,cajoling, celebrating ..it is uplifting and inspiring, it gives me the energy to continue
of course I will occasionally spot the unfortunate audient who simply does not want to be there…my heart goes out to such afflicted….there perhaps with a spouse or an intended, I saw a woman last night who was hating every moment o her ordeal, her partner was in his element as she yawned,scowled, fidgeted and farted for 2 hours….her discombobulation simply drove me on to sing my head off for her beau….
I had a lad in the front row last night with whom I was an altar boy over 60 years ago….manys the time we swung the thurible, doused the candles, poured the wine, held the patten, and there he was with his Wife and Son…

Frankie and Joan are all lined up to come with me tomorrow night. They’ll be fierce disappointed if we can’t get in!

My family and I are looking forward to seeing you this Friday 14th in Kilashee Hotel. My Mam (85 years young) is joining us. She often talked about a song of yours that includes my Dad, Dick Collins from the Curragh. He’s gone from us now, he died in 1995 from a sudden heart attack. I wonder if you remember him? And the song? It’s 1945 – a very good year by all accounts. I found the line ‘Dick and Con Collins were dealing out cards’ – its a lovely memory. He played cards all his life. As we still do.
In any event, I wanted to thank you for the wonderful music and memories. I live in London now and cherish it all the more.

Hi Christy, hope all is well. Don’t post here as much as I used to but still check in for a nose every now and then. Counting down the days to the weekend, O’Leary will fly us home Friday and we will be well warmed up for Saturdays gig at Killashee. Big crowd of us heading in on the Honda 50s from Coill Dubh, my better half, parents, few aunts, uncles, cousins the whole works. There’ll be no one left…
Special one for us as we will be taking my 7 year old daughter Holly to her first gig, she asked last week if it was ok to have two favourite singers, I told her it depends who they are and she said Christy Moore and Johnny Cash. So you’re in good company. She later added your old pal Ed to the list, so she’s on the right track. See you Saturday, face the puck out
