Your bastardized solo version is underrated, should be on the radio at Christmas as much as shane and jems masterpiece. Buck the fegrudgers is right, I’m sure you enjoy playing it as much as I’m looking forward to hearing it on March 30th. Il be singing every word with you, out of tune of coarse but by fuck does god love a trier!
Was getting root canal treatment yesterday and i asked the dentist, can I listen to my headphones, he said sure, what you listening too, when I replied Christy moore he laughed and replied, jesus, didn’t expect that. usually yous young folks listen to djs and that shit, he then started a rendition of “north and south” and every few minutes through the treatment he stopped to ask, what songs playing now, and when I told he he battered away at the tooth while humming it! Settled the nerves of the big drill in my mouth down that’s for sure!

Hey…
I just dusted off the old 1969 album and I was going to give it a spin but realized I don’t have a record-player anymore… so I just sat and looked at it, the sleeve, the cover, the groves, thankfully all still perfect, I’m sure it will still sound great despite it’s age, it’s been well minded. Congratulations Christy, 50 years “on the road” and such an archive and body of work to behold. Like so many others I’m sure I feel like I’ve shared a little bit of the journey with you and even though it hasn’t been too long since the last Barrowland, I’m working on a visit to catch a gig and I’m thinking about bringing the old album, maybe get you to put your stamp on it if possible…what a gift it would be in the 50th year anniversary, best regards Christy and thanks for everything. Brian.
Christy's reply
Hey Brian,
Reading your post, memories come flooding back..to make an album back then was very difficult to achieve..I had 3 years gigging under my belt before I got the chance..
50 years on it may be easier to make an album then get a gig !

What a performance on Tuesday Christy.. Very special atmosphere in the room and what a performance. you had a few songs I hadnt heard before and loved, was wondering what the banjo song was .. All the best
Christy's reply
Alex..there may have been 10 “banjo songs”
If you meant the Banjo set, thats currently called “The Rock” ..its a piece we are developing at the moment with Cathal Hayden leading the entourage…
Yes, the room was in great order last Tue night…the audience created a welcoming atmosphere, the Band was tight as a bull’s arse going up a hill…we all had a good time together…

One of the best vibes ever at the gig on Tuesday last, can you please tell me the name of the song you sang about the Belfast couple in the chippy, great lyrics.
Thanks Mark.
thank you for getting back. the inspiration for my plan has come from the flow of the song. i dont want to use the song directly, but I want to credit my inspiration. It is a fantastic song. I’ll try to contact Johnny. thanks again.
Dear Christy, I am currently completing a partime course with DIT. The program is on International Selling. I was listening to your song “The Voyage” and, overall, resonates very well a vision I have with regard to a sales plan. The concept is that we are bringing customers on a journey, relationship selling, but the journey is based on trust and commitment, instead of “Love” (there would probably be a bit more planning in there too!). I just want to credit you in my plan, so I am asking if it is okay to use the concept. Many thanks.
Christy's reply
Graham,
Any credit due should go to Johnny Duhan who wrote this great song….he shared it with me over 30 years ago. I still sing it regularly.
I’m not quite sure what you mean when you say “use the concept”.,But if you plan to use the song you would first need Johnny’s permission.
Hope it all works out…
God only knows where they’ll be is right, but by god I know where I’ll be! Better than any weekend in Amsterdam! 🙂 time will never slow down when your as busy as you are. Your music brings too much joy to take a break, sure you don’t look a day over 30!

Christy's reply
I think martin medium bronze but I’m not certain….
one of the many hardships I must endure is that I’ve not been allowed to change strings for the past 20 years…my colleague John Meade looks after the guitars that live on the road…he keeps them in perfect order and only lets me near them at gig time… I remember I used to use St Augustines years ago and before that Black Diamond…often boiled them in Salt Water too…Alex Cambell said that it extended string life slightly, I found it also made a good stock for Scotch Broth
Hi Christy.
Thanks for a wonderful finish to the Vicar Street run. You were all on fire tonight, right from the get go.We are privileged listeners that can leave the World outside and journey off with the Music.
Alas, Vicar Street as we know it will soon be no more…….. suppose that’s progress . Still we have many memories of all the fantastic gigs.
Best regards

Here in the leaba Patsy, still reflecting upon last nights fun…..you were in real close last night …..
I’m hopeful that recent rumours around Vicar St might be the rantings of a deranged, avaricious mind….
the plague has returned..nothing learned… the hungry hoors are at it again…. so little social housing yet new Hotels and Office Blocks in construction round every corner…..Banks and Landlords seem to rule the roost in Dáil Eireann….
vast tracts of public lands being held in cold storage for future exploitation by developers and envelopers…
sorry Patsy, you caught me on a bit of a rant, I better close here…. (before the behaviour in Westminister and Washington begins to raise bile…its fear of the unknown that is so unsettling)
Thank you again for your feedback and ongoing support …..
I was hoping this project might go the same way as Mr. Crosbie’s bizarre Wexford Pods…the PR company have the temerity to describe this as Urban regeneration, that it will benefit the local community and infrastructure…pull the other one Harry….yet all Government agencies weigh in behind it..green lights all the way….pull the other one Leo

Hey Christy.
Messaged here before saying I was coming to see you in bundoran in October but never made it the tickets we thought were getting off friends who couldn’t make it actually went, ragin! We weren’t as silly this time around and coming to see you in Monaghan march 30th. Cannot wait. I was just at your Vicar Street show last night (Jan 14th) and it was amazing, one of my favourite shows to date.
I hate to be cliche but I’d like to request a song. I’m going to your gig again in May 11th at the Clanree in Donegal with 2 good friends and fellow Big Christy Moore fans who had The Voyage as the first dance on their wedding day. I was wondering if you weren’t inundated with requests on the night you could sing and possibly dedicate it to them. Not only would it make a bunuch of 30 year olds very happy. It will be their wedding anniversary and I bought the tickets as a birthday present.

Thank You Annie….

Last night the gig took its own course…so much so that I failed to include intended dedications…
I had taken note to play “Wandering Aongus” for Sally from Sligo, “Metropolitan Avenue” for David from Brittany and “Raggle Taggle” for two visitors from Norway…
However, in the heat of the night, I got carried away by the atmosphere and spontaneity took over….
There is a lot to remember in a 2 hour set,… lyrics, melodies, chords, arrangements, tempos, solos,intros,outros,tunings…..I give thanks that this old head can still keep track of it all ….
Come the time, we will do our best..
Dear Christy,
there is an ocean to cross again and again and a “Hamilton’s Rest” for dreams – if in Leenaun for example or anywhere in the world.
Thanks for the concert on 2nd January at Vicar Street and thanks for singing “Well Below The Valley”. A great start for the new year!!! “Well Below The Valley” beamed me back to the time behind the wall as we sucked up your music like sponges the water.
However, it will be happen not so fast that we hear a concert again. Berlin is not just around the corner. But never say never! And your songs – that’s for sure – are in our hearts.
For you and the crew and for all of us a peaceful 2019.
