saw you too times in germany. Cologne in the beginning of the nineties and about 2010 in Bochum. But I wanted to feel the Barrowland experience after watching the videos of “Ordinary man” and “La quinta brigada” in Glasgow. And we flew to Glasgow last saturday morning und we had a hotel just half a mile away from the Barrowland Ballroom and it was really a terrific experience to be a part of this enthusiastic crowd of thousands of voices. And you got them all with the first chords and the first lines of “City of Chicago”. As you said .. “Like 5 goals in the first minute”. And cause i fall in love with this old school, atmospheric venue and this great city .. I just cant wait for your next concert in the Barrowlands. Thanks a lot. You, the Ballroom und Glasgow have given me a weekend which I never forget.
Christy's reply
Hey Otto,
Glad to read of your trip to Barrowland…thank you for sharing your story…..
hi Christy hope you are well I have tickets for april 26th 2019 for the gig at university concert hall in limerick and I was wandering if ye will also be doing the Saturday night there or if ye will be returning to the lakeside hotel in Killaloe anytime soon I would also like to wish yourself and family and all the band and stage crew a very happy upcoming Christmas and a great new year
Christy's reply
Morra John…I have checked with the planning Dept…it looks like we’ll have a second night in Limerick…..no word on Killaloe
“O they hackled them both hands and feet with twines they could not break,
and brought them down to Killaloe by steamer on the Lake.
Without witness judge or jury on the Bridge they shot them down,
And their blood flowed with The Shannon, convenient to the Town.”
Definitely no need for an apology! That quick minute topped off our weekend. Even though it was a rush, such a rush that I got cut out of the photo.
Music is going well. Managing to get to different gig around. Seen John Spillane and Luka in De Barra’s. Seamie O Dowd is in Cork Friday night.
Currently on the hunt for some gigs/band for myself (If yer ever looking to add a bass player!)
Thanks again, appreciate it.
Dear Christy, I trust you and yours are all well and safely ensconced in the bosom of your homeland. We passed a most incredible week the highlights of which are innumerable. Three very different experiences. Especially for the new song which is exceptional. I don’t know if you have heard of One in Four based in Holles St in Dublin. A while back I was able to work with the UK branch in Catford (well Bellingham actually) working with survivors of the church abuse. Wouldn’t it be great to have some sort of fundraiser? To launch the song? Am I getting ideas above my station? (Sorry if I am) This matter is never far away from us and rightly so. I have the opportunity next Friday to catch Rob Corcoran at the Betsy Trotswood in Farringdon so thanks for the heads up. I had seen his name about especially in Harrisons in Kings Cross. Talking of heads (and feets) up ….You missed a blinder at Parkhead, especially the striker known as ‘Frenchy Eddy’, according to Gary who plays pipes for the Glasgow James Connolly Band, originally from Donegal, who told me the best place to stand to meet Brendan Rogers (even if I didn’t want to meet him). Michael got us seats betwixt the union jack and the tricolour.(Basically next to the away section! Hearts fans seemed to be quite angry about something. I know not what.) Nothing beats a bit of sectarian tribalism to get the intestines going. I became quite inflamed I can tell you that for nothing. One of the corner stands is taken up with synchronised drumming dancing and singing. Adam has taken a lovely photo of the audience at Barrowlands and if you look deep into its centre there is a solitary Celtic scarf. That Adam is a fine young man. Anyhoo, there is too much in my head. With our best regards to the mighty lads. (In the interests of positive discrimination and tokenism I think you should recruit a female member of the crew. Minorities are currently underrepresented.) I feel mightily blessed to have these experiences and memories. So thank you. See you soon. xx

the suggestion is not “above your station”, not at all…….there are many many such suggestions to be considered…and we consider them all…8 such gigs have taken place this year
I spotted thon scarf in Adam’s shot….he is taking some great pictures
our current band and crew has assembled over decades, each one with specific talent and skill, none chosen for their gender….hopefully we can continue our work in harmony….if someone has to leave, if a replacement can be found, gender, race nor creed will not be a consideration ……
hope all is well with you and family… great to read that you are going to hear Rob Corcoran..he is coming along to Vicar St in December when I look forward to meeting him.
its all go here, working on a few new songs, trying to keep body and soul together, hair tonic still not working, grandchilder calling in today…..its all good, Thanks Be
Finally after many years trying to get a ticket for the Barrowlands ,i finally got to see you,my dad who hailed from Fintown Donegal, always said you were an icon of ireland, who could put angst and love in any song that was put before you….sail on Jimmy is in my opinion one the greatest songs, and sing alongs i i have heard in that famous barrowlands ballroom….and ive seen a lot of bands and artists in there….thanks for a memorable night Christy…..haste ye back…..cheers Jonno.
Well Christy, How are you keeping ?
Just popping in to show some appreciation for yet another outstanding gig. Barrowlands was something else Saturday night. The atmosphere was electric. Loved hearing some of the older songs in the set (Only Our Rivers, Companeros, Boy from Tamlaghtduff). Couldn’t believe our luck when our taxi pulled up next to yer van just as ye pulled up outside Barrowlands. Thanks for taking the time to take the photo! See ye again soon.
Christy's reply
Good to hear from you…I did not recognise you outside the venue last Sat…..hope I did not come across as a crotchety auld bollix…I was in Gig mode, I was revved up and straining at the leash to get up dem steps to our sound check….its been bugging me ever since, so I’m glad to get the opportunity to apologise…..hope your music is going well…tell us what you’re doin these days
.’You may travel far far from your own native home,’ but if the journey is it to see Christy Moore in Barrowlands it is well worth the trip. On behalf of all those who travelled up to Glasgow, thank you, great musicians, great songs, great venue and a great audience.and the cherry on the cake an unexpected (always the best kind) name check prior to Ride On. Spent yesterday at The Peoples Palace (where they had a small exhibition all about Barrowlands) educating myself about Maggie McIver and The Gay Birds before returning home today. Dear Christy, I discovered you and your music only a few months ago when I was looking for SineadO´Connor Songs on YouTube. One of the most beautiful songs is Lord Baker which has a Video on YouTube with a slightly different Instrumentation, there are some pipes and very decent drums. Is that version available anywhere? I really love it! I also love all that Irish stuff from you and Planxty. Big fan of yours and Sinead! Wishing you all the best for the upcoming Shows and merry Christmas!
Chris
Christy's reply
Hi Chris,
The Planxty version of Lord Baker is on our 1981 album “Words and Music”…I sourced this song from John Reilly along with “Raggle Taggle Gypsy”, “The Well Below The Valley” , “What Put The Blood”, “Tippin it Up to Nancy” and “Green grows The Laurel”
The version you seek is on Sinéad’s album Sean-Nós Nua
of course the best versions to hear are contained on John’s 1978 album “The Bonny Green Tree” on the Topic label
Banging night last night Christy…me and the missus travelled up from sunny Leeds for our first time at Barrowland….lived up to all my expectations. Seen you a good few times now but never as fired up as that. …long may it go on.cheers
Great gig on Monday Christy,
My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Hope to see you again next year.
You don’t get any older. You look the same as when I seen you 30 odds years ago in the premier in Dun Laoghaire
Hiya Christy, Saw you Wed and last night, cos I never miss a Glasgae gig and love the chalk and cheese of the 2 venues. But nothing stirs my heart like you and Declan and the band at the Barrowlands, what an electric night of fun, jiggin and laughter. You dealt with the mob admirably, as always. Loved to hear Beeswing, not heard it for a while and sang along to Ringing the Bell and Sail on Jimmy as I’d heard them on Wed night, fantastic! My memories will linger on, til next time, love u to bits, safe journey home. JULSEY x
Oh Christy, what a fantastic night last night. My first time seeing you in the Barrowland. It’s definitely a unique experience. Difficult and joyful all at once. I particularly enjoyed hearing Only Our Rivers live, and your new one, Ringing the Bell. Very moving and powerful sentiment behind that, if my amateur interpretation is correct. And our course Barrowland, the most magical song. Go raibh mile to you Declan, Cathal and Jimmy.
Ps. I sadly had to leave before the encore. What did I miss?

I like and agree with your appraisal ….”joyful & difficult”
But the joys totally outweigh any slight difficulties…..the enthusiasm we encounter in Barrowland remains unequalled in any venue I have encountered over the past 52 years on the road….nowhere else are the songs sung with such familiarity, love and gusto….its such a high for this auld singer when 2,000 voices join in and make some songs their own…….
Barrowland is like a pit-stop we visit once every 18 months…we always leave re-charged for the journey ahead…..hopefully we’ll make it back again to stand beneath that Carousel of Healing…
Fare Thee Well The Noo
GRMMA to you and your companeros, Christy for yet another fantastic night. There were many soul-sticking and mind-moving moments. A special one among the many was to hear your song to Francis ringing out in the sudden silence.
Stay safe. Hope you got the email re MH.
Hello Christy!
Can you feel the intoxication vibe? Ha.ha. God Bless for your sobriety Christy. I’ll be saving up my meager wages to come to Ireland next summer. I’ll do the 4 day unlimited rail pass also. Anyway, my tonights muse for ya. https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=2&v=tAG8qHZwSwU
Amazing set tonight at Barrowlands. First time I’ve heard bees wing at the show and was beautiful. Always there with my dad and sometimes my mum tags along too. See you next year Christy!
Christy's reply
Glasgow never fails us…. no audience anywhere sings like the Barrowland Choir…the Paradise Chant gives me time to draw breath….the front rows full of familiar faces that make me feel at home…the room full of listeners and singers, ranters and ravers, rebels and mystics, dancers and chancers, poets and painters,
Thanks a million for the request and for an absolute cracker of a gig tonight. There’s no place like it!!!!
Safe travels back!
