Would love to hear McIllhatton as there’s reference to my mother’s home in Glenravel and it brings fond memories of the stories she used to tell about Micky when growing up there. Many thanks.

Thanks again to Christy, Declan, Jimmy, Hillary and the crew for an amazing two nights at The Great Northern Hotel in Bondoran last week. The five of us came out from Milwaukee to see Christy for the two nights and it was such an amazing time and trip! We sat in the front row on the second night and Christy shared Lisdoonvarna with us. Would love to hear any Milwaukee stories from Christy. What an amazing experience that will not be forgotten and I look forward to doing it again.
Many thanks!

Fair play to you Milwaukee 5…..
no stories to share from that historic place….nearest I ever got was singing a song that contained a reference to the Glendale Train..( from “Jesus Christ and Jessie James” by the late Brian Moore who played with a band called “The Men Of No Property )
Hi Christy, Wednesday and Saturday can’t come quick enough this week. Myself, my other half and my mum and dad will be along at the concert hall on the 31st. It’s mum and dad’s 48th wedding anniversary that day too so will be a lovely celebration for them. Life’s been tough for them (losing a son some 15 odd years ago). I’ve seen many relationships fail under similar circumstances but their love for each other gets stronger by the day. Would be great to hear Two Island Swans for Frank and Agnes. A fitting tribute in my mind.
All the best for the coming week Christy

Finally getting to see you at the barrowlands on saturday , been hoping to for years so can’t wait. Me and 2 friends from Derry travelling over.
1 of our good friends 2nd anniversary is on 31st october. Gareth Phely Phelan.
A great irishman who loved your music , he travelled Australia and new zealand before he passed away and always carried his 4 provincies flag with him aswel as having a tattoo of them on his arm.
Always spoke well of his country and people wherever he was and blasted your music wherever he went. Called everyone Mo Chara, lots of great comments on facebook when he died from people all over who mentioned he always called them mo chara.
A great character and badly missed by us all and his family.
Was hoping for a song dedicated to him if possible , thinking four green fields if its in your current set list or back home in derry.
A rebel he came and he’s still the same
Thanks Christy.. roll on the music
RIP

our Mother, Nancy Power ( 1915-1992), would sometimes sing Tommy Makem’s song. I’ve never managed to sing it myself…your second choice is always played in Mags McIvor’s….. in memory of “Mo Cara”
Dear Christy, I hope you and yours are all well. I’ve had a cracking year this year. But the icing on the cake (there’s gotta be cake) is Glasgow and Edinburgh. (we’ve tickets for Celtic v Hearts before Barrowlands!!!) So I’m wholly without exception looking forward to the highlight and the pilgrimage. I hope you have a good journey. I said to Michael the other day that there were tickets for the folk awards available but he said we couldn’t go because the new gas meter was being fitted. It looked great fun. I hope you had a good time. We got to see Lankum last night in Soho (well Tottenham Court Rd) so that was brill. Radie does a superlative version of Hares on the Mountain. Take care the cold begins to set. See you soon. Xx
Christy's reply
Michael has his priorities right…you might have missed the awards but ye will be warm thru the winter months….its wise to be vigilant when gas is being installed….a few years back I left the house empty for installers…when I came home there were skidmarks on my sheets and two pairs of Calvin Kleins missing from the wash basket…
Lankum in Soho sounds right…they are a fine bunch of rapscallions..always a pleasure to meet them…we sang together in Lynch’s Kitchen a few years back…they laid on some serious sangwidges and the Tea was stewed to perfection ..I was hoping to sing “Green Grows The Laurel” with them but it never worked out…maybe another time we’ll find a song to share…
We are hoping to attend the Hearts game ourselves….but come the day I’ll probably have to save myself up for the evenings fun…..as you well know..Barrowland is always a challenging match
Thanks for coming back on the Bord na Mona Man Christy. It was a great night in the Copper Beech in Edenderry all those years ago. Thanks also to AdamWicklow for the link to the lyrics.
Hi Christy,
My friend is a great person and a great songwriter.
Much like himself, his songs have a real authentic soul.
You have always been inspirational for him, as is Albert Niland. He has often said that he would really like you to hear and critique one of his songs in particular.
He minds everybody else around him in lots of ways Christy, but for him personally, music and song-writing is at his core. That’s the time he minds himself.
Is there any way he could send you this song?
I know he did try on Facebook before but it just didn’t happen at the time.
I know you’re probably very busy, but this person is very special, and easily worth the time it took to write this message.
Thanks a lot Christy, I hope you can help, Mairead
Christy's reply
Hey Mairead,
Its always poss to put a lyric up here…I could not “critique” the work of another songwriter….but I could have a look and then, perhaps, have a listen…fair play to you for encouraging your friend, for taking the time….
Dear Christy, been a fan for many many years and loving your new song Sail On Jimmy. Sorry this message is long but I was wondering if you can tell me if any of these lyrics are incorrect as I want to learn and sing the song (sing songs at christmas haha) and i think this would be a fun tune. Keep up the amazing work! Will you be back in Carlow soon??
Yours sincerely,

Hi Christy, hope all’s well with you. I’ve got the next trip planned and a couple of tickets for Barrowlands on November 3rd, I’m really looking forward to the gig, last time I was at Barrowlands Celtic had hammered Rangers and it was electric…so excited to be there and hopeful to hear The Lassies of the Broomielaw. Such a great night was had by all…such music and song….it was emotional betimes, it was beautiful, there was fun, respect and a sense of unity..the audience knew their stuff and showed their appreciation…there was none of the guff or shite sometimes prevalent at award events…not a dicky bow in sight, no red carpet but real, heart felt respect for what was being celebrated…the old and young seemed to meld into one from Daoiri Farrell to Andy Irvine, a baton passed and held firm…..from Mary Black to Emma Langford, from Sweeneys Men to Ye Vagabonds, Planxty to Lankum, John Reilly to Steo Wall..the Music and Song still reverberating….we all shared a sense of pride in our collective last night..
it was a priviledge to be there
