Hi Christy,
Just wondering if youre thinking of adding a final verse maybe to the Bord Na Mona Man given yesterday’s announcement of a massive scaleback? Heard you singing it in BNM country in Edenderry about 30 years ago. It was great then and perhaps more poignant now. Are the lyrics available?

its all coming back to me..that gig was somehow connected to the Shoe Factory..it was a wild night..a bit like a Kildare v Offaly Junior B Hurling match where there is only gonna be one winner..the publican…
I think there may be a set of lyrics in the book “One Voice”..

P.S. These days my little donkeys are seriously jealous as all the attention is on our local harriet .Poor thing has had to go into hiding after an online video of her soprano voice was put online. Cant walk down the road without people pulling over asking for her location.! As far as I am concerned shes 20 miles over the other side of the mountain! She never brayed for years and then started this carry on ! See the video here . https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vg7ftpjhJ08
Thanks for coming back about The Voyage Christy. Such emotive memories of Sligo. Here’s the flip side of having a First Mate & Crew. I can’t make the weekend you’re in the Hawks Well next June, I’ll work something else out though…

Good morning christy,
Charlie, cammy and i have our own wagons in a ring here in germany for the fitba, but a lack of musical talent means there is no banjo or mandolin. We have had a wee chorus or two of joxer after a few flagons last night however ,and the celts in europe wish you were here to join in.
Next week ,i think, in Glasgow it will be 50 summers since the great Hamish Imlach donated ‘black is the colour’ to you, and whilst he is sorely missed, we trust that his gem of a song will be added to the set list alongside kevin barry and other tunes at the barras.

Hi Christy, myself and the good wife are making the trip up from Liverpool to Glasgow for the Barrowlands gig next Saturday. Had the pleasure of seeing you many times over the years (since about 1985) but our last Barrowlands gig was back in 2008 (the Come All You Dreamers year).Anyway I was thinking of making it a regular event but as you know Barrowlands tends to sell out very quickly so could I be a bit cheeky and ask you for the heads up just before the 2028 Barrowlands gig, wouldn’t want to miss it..
Christy's reply
Thank you “Good Wife” and John for your continued support over 33 years….I’ve taken note to remind you of the upcoming 2028 gig in Mags McIvor’s…spoke to Tony Bennett about it last month and he assures me that all I gotta do is practice every day and dont die…
I seem to bracket Liverpool-Glasgow together in my gig memory…maybe its to do with ships sailing into the hearts of those Cities….but also to do with music, friends, football, singers, songs, clubs, bands, sectarianism, politics,
Howya Christy ,

I went to see you last November in the carrickdale it was brilliant.
I grew up with my brother playing the guitar and singing your songs he sounds just like you he wrote to you when he was younger and you replied there was great excitement in the o neill house hold. You wrote on the card ride on Paddy and a wee guitar beside it I highly doubt you remember ?
Hope you will consider Perth some day ?

Now listen here to me Daithí, for fuck sake dont be getting my portratit tatooed on any part of your body..if you must get it done make sure its somewhere where no one can see it…under your doodle sack or the sole of your foot…I’ll be feckin mortified if I meet you in Dag Welds or Mulrennanns, or Carrols or Hill 16 and you have my mush on your biceps….

Gidday Christy, I visited the UK & Ireland recently for the first time. I stayed with my cousin in Knebworth who just happened to be a Christy fan. He drove us to all manner of places in his van and thats where I heard Christy Moore for the first time. It was Smoke & Strong Whiskey. I purchased the album from the Play Store right there and then. Couldn’t wait to get to Dublin where I found Tower Music on Dawson Street where I bought On The Road. Honestly, I can’t get enough…I would die a happy man if any of your music was the last I ever heard – just amazing! Are there any music DVDs available online? My cousin has seen you perform twice in Australia, I think he said. Any plans of touring Australia again? I’ll be sure to follow you on Facebook for updates, concerts and new music. Love your work! Morra Brendan,
Far as I can remember there were 5 or 6 DVDs released over the years…the ones I remember best are “Journey” from 2017 and “Live at Barrowland” both these appear to be on ebay…others include ” Planxty Live 2004, Planxty Retro 2017, CM “Uncovered” 2002 and CM “Live at The Point”..there was a doc called “Christy” released circa 1990 ..dont know if those earlier ones are available..there is a sister site called 4711ers.org that provides good infoon such matters…
Its unlikely that I will make it back up to OZ and NZ ….great memories but I lost my parachute
Thanks for the reply Christy. Couldn’t find the song, but I’m sure i will when I go to the clubhouse. I often remember JohnJoe talking about you, but I didn’t realise who he was talking about. Which makes it even more special

(He sang Irish Heartbeat and was very different to Prince but definitely brought tears to glass eyes that night). What a man. But Christy Moore I have yet to see. I say yet because I still think there’s hope. My son was singing “Back home in Derry” with me the other day. It’s not bad in an American accent haha. Thanks for the songs Christy.
Dear Christy, Oh how your voice, your lyrics, your absolutely unique sound choreographs my life. Thank you thank you. Through the 80s we wandered Ireland under purple skies in The West and discovered your music in Clare. In the 90s we traveled from Germany where we were teachers to hear your sound in person. At Vicar Street years later, we loved seeing you again. In my video classes a decade ago, 13-year-old American children animated St. Brendan’s Voyage with bits of colored paper, cameras and an iMac, an exuberance of laughter and mayhem. A whole school was singing “Is it right or left to Gibraltar?” .. and now here we are in 2018. “The Voyage” was part of my husband’s memorial. Any Christy Moore song brings memories that sparkle. So I am bringing friends to Ireland in the springtime. We’ll see you in Killarney perhaps? It is their first time so I am sending them lyrics, links and Christy Moore lore. That has to be the best way for them to begin to know Ireland and feel the magic. Right? All the best to you. Thank you again. XOXO Mary
Christy's reply
I hold you long time listeners in high regard…I thank you for all the years, the good vibrations, the singing, the requests, ye create the air that helps us all to fly, to play to sing..let me know next time and I’ll sing a song for ye
I wonder how you felt the first time you heard “The Voyage”. I’ve been a guest on this planet for over 50 years now. This song found me for the first time yesterday and it stoned me. Coming from Sligo stock the old endorphins can sometimes be in short supply. Yet again you’ve managed to find something to fill the shelves again.
Thank you.
Ian
Christy's reply
Ian…I first heard “The Voyage” when author/singer Johnny Duhan sang it to me over 30 years ago…I liked it immediately …however it took me a few years to recover the love to sing it…. I’d been singin angry for years… until a time came again that allowed me to close my eyes and sing Johnny’s ballad of love, partnership and family……a small number of listeners back then resisted and left, some of them never to return…the last 2 nights in Donegal (and most nights) audiences welcomed the opening chords as we all entered that warm cosy place that the song seems to create….now I hear young voices calling out for “The Voyage”, listeners that were not born when Johnny first shared his song with me….
As we drove through Sligo late last night I thought of your post…so much music and so many good times remembered…Joe O’Dowd, Pumpkinhead, Midnight Well, Nervous Animals, Moxie, Seamus Tansey, Steve Wickham, Seamie O’Dowd & Family, nights in Coolooney and Coolaney, The Blue Lagoon and Hawkswell, The Venue & Coolara House, Ballisodare and Ballymote….I feel I could do a World Tour without leaving Sligo…
I somehow missed Weekend at Amsterdam on Folktale, but it sure caught my attention as featured On the Road. A hilarious and fun presentation to be sure!
If you find yourself in the right state, would you give me a short One Voice style write-up of your history with that great song?
Thanks for your years of great music.
Christy's reply
It was written by Paul McCormack, a leading songwriter from my Home Town of Newbridge in the County of Kildare…..he based it on Barney Rush’s 1960’s odyssey “The Crack was 90″ which I recorded 40 years ago. I took liberties with both songs but only with blessings from the authors….
Amsterdam has created quite a stir….I’ve been read off the Altar in a number of Churches in my home diocese….the Bishop of Kildare & Leighlin is reputed to have stated ” Moore is an utter Disgrace to the Holy County of Cill Dara, it is now impossible for him to be accepted into the Kingdom of Heaven ( or Kerry for that matter). His disgusting versification brings shame upon the good Catholics of this sacred Parish”
I cannot get verifiction from the Bishop’s office regarding these comments..perhaps some oy our readers hear can provide clarification.
I served as an Altar boy in St Conleth’s Church from 1953 to 1957….I poured the wine, quenched the candles, swung the thurible, rang the bell, held the patten, pounded the breast at numerous Masses, Funerals, Weddings and Christenings. I attended to all the clerical needs of Monsignor Miller, Fr Gorman and Fr McNally …….and this is thanks I get and me only singing an auld ballad …
I have a new song on the way that may very well settle the matter….watch this space

That has to be the best way for them to begin to know Ireland and feel the magic. Right? All the best to you. Thank you again. XOXO Mary
I hold you long time listeners in high regard…I thank you for all the years, the good vibrations, the singing, the requests, ye create the air that helps us all to fly, to play to sing..let me know next time and I’ll sing a song for ye
Hi Christy,
I wonder how you felt the first time you heard “The Voyage”. I’ve been a guest on this planet for over 50 years now. This song found me for the first time yesterday and it stoned me. Coming from Sligo stock the old endorphins can sometimes be in short supply. Yet again you’ve managed to find something to fill the shelves again.
Thank you.
Ian
