Hi Christy, hope the gigs are going well. Myself and my girlfriend Marie just got engaged and only today booked our wedding in Doolin, County Clare (great music country). We’re on our way to see you in Liverpool to celebrate. Can’t wait to see you again, we’re big fans and would really love if you could sing the voyage to wish us well on our voyage together. Jasus Earnan, this Liverpool gig is setting a new record for callouts….half the crowd are looking to be mentioned….if I do all the feckin callouts and requests there wont be any time left to sing a few songs..

Liverpool awaits your celebration..lets see how the requests pan out..I’m gonna put them all in a bucket and have a draw
Hi, just reading an article in the Irish News about the launch of RTÉ Radio 1 folk awards. Great picture of you and Paul Brady. That will be some event in Vicar Street. Will tickets be made available for the hoi polloi? You sang Middle Of The Island and I’m now tuned in to you and Sinead O’Connor singing together. Your powerful song and Paula Meehan’s equally powerful poem: The Statue of the Virgin Speaks, also about Ann Lovett contribute to the ‘repository of human stories and social commentary.’ Looking forward to seeing you in the Orchard County ?. Go well Christy. Mary

RTE Folk Awards..
This could be a great initiative if properly addressed…..a great platform for young performers as well as a means to offer recognition to those who have given life long commitment to the broad genre….. I recall being present when Barney McKenna recieved a lifetime achievement award from the BBC..and he accepted and responded in Irish which ,I felt, was a beautiful gesture that London night…
but there are potential pitfalls. many in the area of presentation, I hope it will be a night for those who follow Folk Music rather then a gathering for “celebs” to flout their pouts as they mingle with the usual supects…..
The launch was a good start…I wish them well upon this new journey..lets hope its real, funky, sweaty, hairy, sincere, plámásless, radical, true, fun, …. free of red carpet palavar, P.R. control…Keep it real

just a thought– i dont think she would have had a wolfhound ,they cost too much ,they eat too much ,and they’d never catch a rabbit for the pot.
She’d have had a lurcher ,what do you think??

Cheers DAVE
Christy's reply
you’re spot on there Dave…She had a lurcher alright, until one morning this wolfhound turned up and ate the wee dog for his breakfast…whats a girl to do…
the black album ? there were 2..in 1972 the First Planxty album became known as “the black album”….6 years later I released another black sleeved album..it became known as the “roots’ album or the “Kunta Kinte” album as it coincided with a very popular TV series..
Wishing you and all the crew a safe and successful tour “On the Mainland”.
I stumbled across this little film about the power of song and music during difficult times and thought that it might be of interest to some 4711ers. https://youtu.be/ViMBsbEkTdk

Hello dear Christy,
Hope you enjoyed Bealtaine and your break! And the worms and birds are still happy … maybe even about some sunshine.
Here the songbirds are jubilating over the early summer and we are having a busy time in the garden.

Hi Christy. I’m so looking forward to seeing you in York on the 9th. I won’t be bringing my Mum this time as she’s not too well. Hope you remember my special parents Tommy and Kathleen Boyle from Rotherham. You stayed at our house in the early 70’s which us kids remember so well. I remember a huge bag of sweets you brought us out of your blue mini van. We thought Christmas had come early!! We have a lovely recording of you singing to us as we came down stairs one morning too! Dad always loved The Voyage , and Mum ..The Cliffs of Doneen. I personally love Nancy Spain.
Enjoy the Tour Christy .. can’t wait to hear your magic again.
With fondest memories …

I remember your parents well Caroline.Tommy’s smile and warm welcome, Kathleen always made me feel at home. Please give her my best wishes.
Hi Christy,
Hope the gigs are going well. I just want to send a quick thank you your way. It has been a sad time for us here after losing our dear mother last month. Your music has been powerful, not only for the way it lifted her spirits throughout her illness, but the comfort it has brought to us as a family over the years. Thank you for dedicating Bright Blue Rose to Mam at the last gig she attended. It really meant a lot. Motherland has been on repeat since she left us. Such a special song. We look forward to seeing you back in Galway for the two nights in August. All the very best to you and yours. CC
Christy's reply
Bless The Mothers…from whom we came..from whom our bones were formed, our blood distilled, whose heartbeats were the sound of life…who held us ,fed us, loved us,made sacrifice for us ,guided us
and then, after all that, did their best to put up with us….
when the Ma went I felt finally cut adrift from my moorings…..26 years on I still turn to her in moments of doubt or need..her spirit never fails me..
Thanks for sharing…..to hear that the songs gave small comfort is a blessing
Flown over from Belfast foe tonight’s gig at the Phil, Christy. Thanks a million. ‘Does this train stop on Merseyside’?! Phil and Deena xxx
