Hello Christy I hope the rest and relaxation is going well. Mick and I went to see Declan O Rourke last night in Shepherds Bush. Someone called for Lightning Bird and he said ‘Christy Moore recorded that… And does it much better than me…’ which I thought was really charming of him to say. Needless to say the gig was sublime. The word is mellifluous I believe. He is a very human performer. And he writes some very potential wedding songs. 🙂
So I thought I’d ask a question which I hope you don’t mind considering? Recently on the guestbook someone said they wanted to write a song about you and how great you were. Which you politely recoiled at. We went to see Jackson Browne at the Albert Hall and this lady next to me was positively transcendental. I mean like apoplectic with joy. And he was very good. So…
My question is this. What makes do you think makes one voice/artist more meaningful and in some cases life changing than another? What connects the sound to the soul/psyche? Is it luck? The answer is probably very simple. But more than just a question of personal taste. (my sister in law would throw herself under a bus for Dave Grohl but I’m like whatever whenever). It might help to explain why people want to write songs about ‘heroes/legends/great loves.’.. Or why people who have no other connection apart from being human join together with one love? Thanks. Xx

Yes indeed Anuk, what a generous comment from Declan O’Rourke, what a great song…. a sound man and a beautiful singer…covering songs from other writers seldom elucidates such warm response
With regard to your question….its the colour, the sight, the sound and the beautiful smell plus the indefinable, the magical, the spiritual ingredient that can be neither analysed nor bottled…why can a piece of sculpture make me cry, a painting make me happy,I once heard a singer who is loved and lauded ,I went in expectation and almost lost the will to listen….I am often enthralled by singers who fail to please fellow listeners….music affairs of the heart….it can be passion,it can be soulfullness, …. mood, frame of mind, personal situation can play a part…..

just to say “hello” and to wish you all the best. I hope you’re doing fine.
It’s great that I can find so many of your videos on YouTube. That’s my only chance to watch you singing. Brings back memories when I had the chance to join some of you concerts in Munich/Germany.
Some minutes ago I was listening and watching “Nancy Spain” one of my all time favorites. This gave me the inspiration to sign up here and say thank you.

Greetings to Chiang Mai from the West Coast of Clare.I cherish many memories from my earlier trips to Germany.
We are currently working towards a specific youtube channel where we plan to offer our own recordings of the work..
Its almost 50 years since I first heard Nancy Spain. Sung by the man who wrote it..the late Barney Rush from Sallynoggin, Co. Dublin.
The thunder and lightening storms have been battering the Black and Divis Mountains all weekend. I haven’t seen storms like this over the city in a long time but it maybe suits the mood in the North at the minute. The expectations and hope of the Good Friday Agreement seem like a lifetime ago and we are in a dark place at the minute. Martin McGuinness is badly missed and that stark reality is only hitting us now. Looking forward to your concerts in October as always. All the Best.

Hello Christy,
My wife Sarah(who is a Dub), myself, and our 7 year old daughter Katie, just returned to our home in south Florida, from our pilgrimage to see you in Arklow Bay, last Thursday night. She surprised me in March, with U2 tickets at Croke Park, and completely overwhelmed me last month with tickets to your show (which was the cherry on the cake of our trip.) Needless to say, we left musically enhanced, and spiritually fulfilled, and can cross seeing you live, off of our bucket list. This truly was a dream fulfilled. You played our wedding song, “The Voyage”, and her favorite, “The Bright Blue Rose”. We can’t say there was not some divine intervention involved in the set list, lol, although the good Lord did leave “Natives”, my favorite, off the set list. Years ago, my future brother in law lent me your “Live at the Point” CD, which I have not returned to him as of yet. I played it to death, a few life times’ worth. After work on most Saturday nights, I listen to your music in my backyard, while winding down the day and week, in an attempt to decombust over a Pint or two, etc,. Anyhow, please continue doing what you do. On days and nights when it may seem to be a challenge or less than a labor of love, please remember the joy that you are offering to the world, and people like ourselves. We are very grateful for your musical efforts, past, present and future. It has brought us much joy and emotional refuse, and provides inspiration and comfort, but mostly joy. Your presentation of the lyrical content is a gift that is highly relatable. It is truly “candy for the soul”. Thanks for you, and to you, Christy, and God Bless. Slainte’…..PS, Saw Declan, in the restaurant, having breakfast, on Friday morning. Did not want to disturb him, and had to respect his privacy, for fear my wife would murder me on the spot. Please thank him on our behalf as well, as he is truly an amazing musician, and perfect complement to yourself…..

Hello Christy, Afraid this is a bit tardy, but I wanted to express how much we enjoyed three May gigs – Westport, Carrick-on-Shannon and the second Letterkenny. Each had its own spirit and feel and all were just plain beautiful and inspiring – the highlights of our tour of the island. We even were able to sing more words than in 2014 in Salthill and 2012 in Tullamore. We were introduced to your music by a young man singing “So Do I” (still a favorite of ours) at a session at Matt Molloy’s in 2009. (If we ever come across Hamilton’s Rest, will definitely drink a pint there.)
So many great songs and such great guitar play by you and Declan – big reasons we always want to get back there. Hope to see you again real soon.
Enjoy your break and second half of this year’s tour.

Hey Jerry, always good to get a bit of feedback, thanks for taking the time to share…far as I know “Hamilton’s Rest” refers to Hamilton’s pub in Leenane, County Mayo…..Wally Page wrote this fine song 40 years ago…I should sing it more often..let me know if you are returning and I will have it in the set…we visited Matt Molloy’s a few months back…sat drinking tea in a quiet snug and reminisced with Matt about tunes of old…..later walking the Streets of Westport we happened upon a Coffee Bar called “Christy’s” so we had to give it a try….a haven of good coffee & vibrations.. A few days have passed since I met you and experienced your show in Arklow. I’ve had plenty of time to reflect and write. The best I can come up with is a very simple, yet deeply heartfelt one hundred thousand “thank you’s.”
During my first trip to Ireland more than 25 years ago, I walked into a tiny record shop in Killarney where I discovered your music. I never thought I’d have the opportunity to see you perform, let alone shake your hand.
Thank you and your crew for such overwhelming hospitality. Y’all are the perfect ambassadors of “Cead Mile Failte”.
Thank you for your conversation and for listening while I opened up to you about the current chapter of my life. Thank you for welcoming me into your world for a bit.
I haven’t yet come down from the emotion I felt the entire day and evening. I took my seat and let the music take me wherever it led me, which is the best way to experience music. I’m still overwhelmed with tears of joy.
Tomorrow, I’ll be back home in Texas where I will continue to put my thoughts to electronic paper and discern where my life’s journey will lead. Eire has been a wonderful place to continue searching for my soul. Eire taught me a lot about living in one short week. In the words of Athens, GA band Widespread Panic (a Grateful Dead inspired band), “An honest tune with a lingering lead has taken me this far…” In this instance, back to Ireland.
Thank you for your honest tunes. Thanks to Declan for the enchanting lingering leads. Until we meet again…one hundred thousand Thank You’s, Dear Christy, for an unforgettable experience.

first time back in Arklow since 1987 ish….I remember the occasion well for Paddy Clancy of The Clancy Brothers came to the Concert. His presence in the room meant a lot for it was The Clancy Sound that raised all our spirits way back in the early 1960s. He came and spoke afterwards and I will never forget that meeting with him. I was fortunate enough to also meet Liam,Tom, Bobby and Peg Clancy and to meet Tommy Makem on number of occasions. Every now and then I enjoy a wee Clancy Brother session, usually on my own…I like to rattle out Rosin The Bow, The Jug of Punch,Brennan on the Moor,The Barnyards of Delgatay, Whiskey you’re The Devil, Whiskey in The Jar, Tim Finnegan,Leavin of Liverpool, Holy Ground and think back to those heady days cavorting around Fleadh Ceols, Hurlin Matches and Race Meetings….
and on it goes Fin..thankfully still a few choruses left to sing..
Dear Christy, tomorrow morning I arrive in Dublin and Friday I head to Arklow for your Friday show. This Texan can’t wait to finally see you in concert. I’m ready for craic and to do a little shit kickin’ (that’s a piss-up to us Texans)!

Hi Christy,
Thanks again for all the music an a craic.
We have a young local bhoy here in Denny who has performed at personal occasions of Celtic managers as well as the other 60,000 fans on match days
He sings songs old and new, of yours, others and his own and all I ask is a wee shout out to Denny’s own Liam McGrandles.
His own song, the white and the green, is fantastic and I urge all a wee listen to it, I’m sure it will brighten up your day.
Anyway, thanks for the forum to chat,

Warmest regards,
Bobby Meehan
dead heads always gratefully welcomed
