Christy's reply
“Cry” was a noble call and we enjoyed playing it again…The Raggle appeared out of the blue..twas only 20 miles away from where I first heard it 53 years ago…John Reilly silenced the pub when he began to sing in Bridie Grehan’s…. then he sang, Lord Baker, Son Come Tell, Tippin it Up, The Well below The Valley, The Ships Captain… we were all stilled in the night
Hi Christy. I hope your well. In terms of songs, I think the Arthur’s day song was one of your best moments of the last decade.

as for “Lingo Politico ” it was written by Pat Quinn, no one else could have written it, it is utterly unique in structure and composition….I like Pat’s writing a lot, where he comes from and where he goes with it… your comment is quite obscure but to the point and I do appreciate you taking the trouble to contribute…
I did struggle initially with using the word hate…thinking long and hard I realised that the word here is very much with a small h……like I love spuds but I hate carrotts….some of my best friends are politicians (with a small p)…i love some of them, dont Hate any of them…but I hate carrots
And what a grand warm gig you, DECLAN and Jimmy gave us in Roscommon last night.
Thank you, Christy for playing my request from Collooney – Coolaney (and even on to Rockfield?).

Dear Christy,
Uwe and I are back home in Hamburg after two weeks travelling Ireland around your concerts in Carrickmacross, Tullamore and Kilkenny. We added some days in Youghal and Cork City and made it a two weeks trip – it was lovely to meet good friends at each of the spots.
What began as a pensive evening still under the effect of Martin McGuinness‘ funeral turned into a merry set with the help of the boisterous crowd in the Nuremore ballroom – no way to stop their singing along and shouting for Joxer (although Joxer has had his appearance 20 minutes before ..). Once we accepted the crowd as contributors to your singing (Barrowland style) we enjoyed the concert. Thank you for dedicating ‚Smoke And Strong Whiskey‘ to Uwe and me at the Nuremore.
The next evening in Tullamore brought another superlative – it will stay in our memory because of the young woman Aine you spontaneously invited on stage to sing the Tuam Beat with you – she was brilliant!
The audience had a ball with your new song about politicians – nice one! I was wondering if the lyrics can be re-read somewhere – not easy for non-native speakers to catch all the subtle details … My personal favorite on the first two nights was Joni Mitchell’s Magdalene Laundries – a familiar song and still so sad and beautiful (and even more sad that the subject had to come up once again).
All people we talked to said that your energy at all these gigs was incredible, you left us almost breathless as the encore was over – fair play to you! You couldn’t have had any better company on stage than your little „orchestra“ – Declan playing extended solos on his electric guitars was superb as always – we never get enough of these … And Jimmy’s „rhythm section“ added the perfect drum beat and good vibes. But we missed Declan’s singing at these concerts – his own songs always used to be a lovely intermezzo.
Last but not least we would like to mention the entire crew behind the scenes – management, organisation, the sound and lighting team, the hotel staff – everything was just perfect, as always, and everyone did a great job.
Hope to be back to Ireland some time soon !!!
Christy's reply
Morra Petra & Uwe..you are a great pair of travellers..thanks for all you support…
Thanks too for extending gratitude to all those who make the gig happen…without our crew we could not deliver these gigs….. great care is taken to have everything right for the gig…I have been on the road 51 years now and I have never had such a dedicated crew…. we hit the stage at 8pm..they arrive in at 11am and start assembling….its now mid-night and they have just finished taking it all down ..they will repeat the exercise tomorrow in Claremorris….we are very fortunate to have such a dedicated team…
“Lingo Politico” is not quite ready for publication here..as soon as I have it recorded I will post the lyric …greetings to all our German songsters

Hi Christie, I’ve seen and heard you play numerous times here in England and each one has of course been a unique and special event. Each one evoking special memories to treasure. I generally bring the father in law. He’s another long term fan from your planxty days. Now for the first time I’m preparing to see you on ‘home’ soil. Claremorris on Friday night. And I’m bringing the wife whose a brain washed fan I’d say. It’s been a dream to see you play in Ireland and it’s now going to be a reality. I’m as excited as a 52 year old can be!! We celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary a few years ago with all the grown up family around us. “The Voyage” was our theme song for the day and the wife loves it. What wonderful lyrics. If by any chance you could give that one a lash and give us a shout I’d be so grateful!! I normally shout out for Ordinary Man but I’ll leave that to others this time. All the best to you. You are simply extraordinary.

I’m looking forward to that gig myself…played there about 18 months back and its a lovely Community venue in the heart of Claremorris..there was a great atmosphere in the hall last time which has us returning so soon….I have 20 years “on you” and I still get excited before every gig…. have a safe journey back to home soil and together we’ll raise the rafters come Friday night
Hello christy your music is just amazing been listening to your music from i was a little girl. I believe you new my granda tom cahill hopefully get to see u the next time you are in belfast ❤

Christy's reply
Sure did Michelle….I did a lot of concerts with TC back in the 70s and 80s….came to visit with him when he was very ill….talked with him a lot about his project at The Conway Mill and also played at the opening night…. TC was a good friend of mine and I often think of him..we had some great times together….John O’ Dreams was the song he always asked for
Hello Christy, hope that you’re keeping well. How excited are we all about seeing you in Worthing later in the year?! Thanks to Hilary for giving us the tip off. Love from us all Helen, Manuel, Tallulah and Noah

the caravan rolls on..hither and thither….listeners gather to create the air in which we play..as we move on through life our paths forever crossing, songs emerge as children grow, some of us run out of steam while newcomers enter the picture..long haul audients and fresh listeners sit together as on we roll….
“Come gather round me people and a Story I will tell”
I’ve listened to you from Newfoundland since I was a little girl and I will cherish the memory of seeing you perform in Kilkenny forever! I truly feel blessed to have seen such a stellar performance. I will continue to listen from home with an even deeper appreciation?
Christy's reply
Thank You Deanne…Harbour Grace, an intriguing place name, such a journey all the way to The Marble City…had I known, I’d have sung “Sonny’s Dream”
“he sits by the window of his room on the stairs,
watching the waves gently wash o’er the pier”…..(Ron Hynes)
Funny thing happened at the end of the gig in Athlone….. two ladies came to us and asked us what the name of that song was, and we told them of Allende and the background and they were very impressed with how you sang the song and that it was pulled up from the heart, not having been on the lists for quite a while.
Yeah, it was Ger that said that it was no matter to hear the verse twice , actually she felt it was one of the finest gigs we’ve had the pleasure to have been to.
So, Glasgow is on the horizon ……. and a first visit to the Barras for Ger ,
Christy's reply
I have included venues in songs across the years (The Blue Lagoon,The Meeting Place,The Baggot Inn,The Rising Sun,O’Donoghues, Dreamland,) but Barrowland has its own song….
My visits there have been like milestones along this journey….there are some performers who find it all too much, some listeners who find it daunting…..but for me there is no place like it….its not for the fainthearted nor the genteel of nature.. but for those who experience the magic of the Barrowland Buzz it draws like a magnet….I have struggled there betimes, felt the gig go down the tubes….something stirs in the room, we all begin to connect beneath the spell of some random lyric, we get back on track and waltz once more beneath the carousel of healing
Brilliant night by the Shannon last night. Some of my work colleagues in the audience for their first gig…… they were wondering what’s my obsession with this “auld Christy Moore “music ?. Glad to report they were impressed.
I’m sure Declan will have plenty of his Wexford buddies in Cat country tonight, all hoping they can do the business in Nolan Park tomorrow.

A fantastic gig for sure, Athlone never disappoints. Sorry for the awkward call….. I’d been trawling thru some older songs this last few weeks and Allende stuck in the head. Have to say tho. Ride On was so special the way you sang it tonight…… your generosity and kindness are without equal.
Christy's reply
twas’nt awkward at all Marty….its a song I love to sing but seldom do….there are many such songs that seldom get an outing…the imagery of “Allende” is startling, always feels closely linked to “Victor Jara” …. when I stalled last night after singin the same verse twice someone said “it does’nt matter”….(it may have been Hilary or Ger)..that was a sweet moment for me…
later on got the call for “Flickering” but it came too late..thats an “early in the gig”kinda number….also enjoyed the blast of “Johnny Conners” even tho I made a bit of a hames of it…
good energy in that room last night..we got a whole bunch of new young listeners comin to the gigs these nights…aint that somethin….keeps the process in motion…. but I need my long haul listeners just as much…..hope ye have a good trip back up the country

Christy,
I am a teacher here in the U.S. and want to use the song “Natives” by Paul Doran in one of my classes to paint a view on religion/colonialism that is often overlooked. Besides what my personal interpretation of the song might be, can you give me any insights on Paul’s writing of the song and your own personal meaning of the lyrics? I would like to be able to have the kids interpret it, and then compare their thoughts to the writer and the artists view. I appreciate your time, love your rendition, and have a great day.
Sean
Christy's reply
Its 30 years since I began to sing Paul Doran’s song…across time the song has meant different things to me..has painted many pictures…depending on place and circumstance it has been imbued with different interpretation…
not a lot more to say Sean….let the listener decide..
its always heartwarming to hear of songs being used in this way….over the years I have heard of songs being utilised in the manner you describe….it means more then any golden disc
Hi Christy, I’m the man that has your first LP that I bought for seventeen and six pence. I was at your concert last weekend in Tullamore. Myself and my Grandson were in the front row. My grandson is third generation of Farrell’s that loves your singing. I joined in with you when you were singing Bright Blue Rose. Brilliant concert. Thanks to Declan, Jimmy and yourself for a brilliant concert.
Christy's reply

I would like to be able to have the kids interpret it, and then compare their thoughts to the writer and the artists view. I appreciate your time, love your rendition, and have a great day.
Sean
Thanks to Declan, Jimmy and yourself for a brilliant concert.
good man Seoirse…not too many have that auld record…”Paddy on The Road” was my first recording back in 1969…I was 24 and hangin out over in London…I met Dominic Behan in Shepherd’s Bush and he took me into the Studio….
it must be a great buzz to go to a gig with your Grandson….hopefully I’ll experience it myself some day soon
Keep singin George and we’ll meet again along the journey
