Hi Christy,
Delighted to see your support for the homeless, it could happen to anyone.
Watching and listening to you on Planxty’s CD while I write this.
Brilliant stuff,….any chance of another tour in 2017.
Looking forward to seeing you again in the Park Hotel Clonmel in the new year. I’ve been dropping hints all over the place hoping Santa will get the message and provide the tickets.
Wishing you and yours a happy and peaceful Christmas and a “Prosperous” new year.
Kindest regards…John O Neill.
Hey Christy,
Took me 4 years to remember my password I don’t make things easy. Just a line to wish you well over the festivities and hope Vicar Street goes well, still enjoying the new album, Lily is a marvelous picture song that would bring a tear to a glass eye on how things used to be, a certain kindness and warmth in every verse. Reminded me of my daily sprint up to eddie’s to get the evening press for the old man before they were ‘gone’, hard to pick a winner without one.
The ropes factory kept the town in porter for many years and probably still does in its new guise as the shopping center, its couldn’t have burnt down at a better time, them electrical faults are a cruse!
Anyway i’m off out to the veranda to figure out Pat murphy, lovely mild night here. All the best
HM
Mulling over a funny old year with way too many downs, but superb to hear ‘Lily’ and see you here in Autumn.
‘Rolling Stone’ mag played a blinder with online pieces about Nobel Bob.I’m not sorry he didn’t attend the bunfight….his words in the acceptance speech were eloquent, humorrous and modest….nicely summed up Bob world,I thought.
The rationale behind the Nobel bigwigs’ decision to award Bob such a prize caused mutterings amongst the literati..,.The Times They Are A’Changin” LP says it all,for me…..a young Midwest kid writes ,plays and records 10 songs that become classics and summed up/sum up storytelling, emotions, life and death….just about perfect. And how many people has he inspired/influenced?
Also ,wonderful to see Scorsese’s ‘No Direction Home’,with superb Liam Clancy moments.
Season’s Greetings to you, family and companeros.
Hope your band wagon keeps rolling for many moons yet…
I haven’t seen Sully yet but I did see the plane floating in the Hudson, the news channels were lit up right away and I was at work on 44th and 9th so I walked a few blocks over to the river. It sure was odd to see that plane drifting south, all the folks were rescued by then thankfully. Looking forward to seeing the movie.
On another bright note, the fedex man brought some tickets today to a gig in April, down Gallowgate…
Hi Christy.
Great to see all the brilliant reviews of recent Gigs. Unfortunately social life goes out the Door for those of us who endure the night shifts to get all the Christmas Cards out at this time of year….. I will have to wait until 2nd if Jan for my next fix in Vicar St….still it will worth the wait…. then we will have the tour of the Midlands before we set off to the Clyde.
Enjoy the Xmas with Val and Family, and thanks for all you do.
Best regards
Patsy

The Accountant…………I enjoyed this, Ben Afleckcarries off a difficult part

Hell or High Water……..good but mumbled dialogue made it hard to follow betimes..great pity
Just to say thank you to you, Declan and Jimmy for a fantastic night in Limerick on Friday. It, in my mind, was one of the best performances yet. Lovely to see you in such great form and looking well too. Your choice of songs would make a wonderful album.
Take care and God bless.

this old tour is lasting longer the anyone expected…its life enhancing to have such great listeners coming to such fine venues to hear us play the songs…I stil remember my first time playing in Limerick..was back in 1972…Planxty were riding high in the charts and we played the Old Savoy Cinema which,at that time, was the biggest venue in Ireland with a capacity of 4,000….I could barely believe what was happening as 12 months previously I was playing in small Folk Clubs…44 years on and the tour continues….
Friday and Saturday last week at the UCL were as enjoyable as any gigs I’ve ever experienced…. we were playing tight, Jimmy was rock solid and Declan was finding the sweet notes…sitting between them I was having a grand time delivering the songs to enthusiastic listeners…and some of them so young !
First saw you live in the late 70’s with Planxty in UL (then NIHE) and many times since. Sat night was one of the best of the shows I have seen. Superb.
Christy's reply
Fair play to you Rob,,,we have great respect and appreciation for our long haul listeners…perhaps some long-service medals should be minted !!Keep coming back and thanks for the thumbs up…I still hear from a couple who were at my very first Folk Club gig in 1966..that was in Blakeley, Manchester..a Folk Club in a Pub called “The Old House at Home”

Thanks for “True love knows no season…” last night . When yourself and Declan get into this one it’s like an old black and white movie runs in my mind.
So true what has been said by the others re your songs being an education for the younger folks who get to hear them….. it certainly was in our house too.
Different aspect sitting up in the balcony at the gig , a bit like being in the upper hogan …..you can see the whole pitch much clearer.
Christy's reply
morra Marty, you mention the “Hogan” and forgotten memories come flooding back….I was very young, we were in the old Hogan Stand long since demolished.Meath were playing Cavan so it may have been an All-Ireland Semi-Final. I was with my Father Andy Moore and Grandfather Jack Power. Jack was a loyal Royal County devotee. At one point I was thrown up into the air and that is my abiding memory. The Green and Gold, the Blue and White….paper caps and rosettes….tea and sandwiches from the boot of the old Ford Prefect…
last two nights in Limerick were dingin….what a great venue…run by Limerick’s finest and attracting listeners from all sides, (even from far off Dún na nGall)
thinking of John Montague this morning…wonderful poet and beautiful man
To add to the discussion, I’m more a visitor than a poster, as Hilary has made the distinction. I visit every day (sometimes 2 times a day) but on average would only make an annual post. Maybe that’s got to do with not being to a Christy gig since 2010 as I live out of the country. The three sites I visit everyday are sky sports football news, irishtimes.com and the Christy guestbook. I would agree with James on the educational aspect of Christy’s songs. I spent my teenage years listening to Christy, Bob, Bruce, Paul H. + more. They are teachers in a way, I learned more about life from their songs than from any 3rd level course I could have done.
Christy's reply
Morra John….to tell you the truth, I still have not figured out the difference between a “visitor and a poster”….where is the dividing line…who gives a shite…recently 4 days passed with neither visitor nor poster… I’d gladly have read a note from a victualler or an imposter…I thought the site was down or thatsome hex had been visited upon us….
anyway John, keep coming back….hope all is well wherever you are in “The East” this morning…
Christy sorry for taking so long to respond to your October comment. Book launch was in aid of cystic fibrosis and was poetry and pieces I wrote about caring for son with cf. It was all in memory of my son Derek who had died. He was a sound engineer and had worked one time with you. You were so kind . You liked the poem
Now I’m 64. All proceeds and book were given to CF Association.
Just wanting to say thanks for a truly memorable evening in UL last night My little one, Meabh, was one of the lucky ones you so kindly invited onto stage and for the chat afterwards. Her first words this morning were “was that a dream or did I really meet Christy Moore last night?”! My better half put it best “what a kind and gentle soul” you are.
There was seven of us there last night from three generations of the clan, from 75 years young through to 8 years old, and each and every one of us has a spring in our step and a smile on our face today.
So looks like my future will be like my past – no music except ‘Christy CDs’ are ‘allowed’ in the car. With the little one in the back, lyric sheet in hand, belting out the tunes. Followed by the inevitable question – what’s that one about, Daddy? Sometimes the answer is full & frank, other times a bit of age appropriate censorship is needed……but no better education could she have…….
With every best wish,
James
Christy's reply
the very idea of three generations coming together to hear the songs….for this old singer, its music to my ears….thank you for sharing this nugget..
I think that the Concert Hall at UCL is becoming my favourite venue in Ireland…the connectivity between stage and auditorium is unsurpassed in Ireland…last two nights I had a great sense of “togetherness”…the staff and crew contributed greatly to our experience there…then the venue itself situated at the heart of that beautiful campus, half in Limerick, half in Clare divided by The Broad Majestic Shannon ( broad in parts !!)….already looking forward to (hopefully) returning, whenever that might be
greetings to Meabh, and all the other young listeners who attended
Hi All,,,You are spot on about that venue Christy,,,,, its a grand space,, reminds me of the Phil in Liverpool…. here is the duet you referenced with Mícheál Ó Súilleabháin ,,,, https://youtu.be/WH0MFI2qF9Y its some River of Sound alright… I saw those 4 guys in action in St Patricks Cathedral as part of the Temple Bar Folk Fest in 2015 it was indeed a very lively gig,,,,lets hope there will be more, BTW do you think that there could be a distinction between ” visitors ” and ” posters ” ?? (not all facebookers have abandoned ship !!! ),,beir bua agus beannacht,,, H
Christy's reply
my dear visiting poster, fair play to you for not jumping ship…thanks for all you do…I never saw that clip with Michéal Ó Súailleabháin before….I think we may have perfomed “Mystic Lipstick” as well….Himself,Frank Patterson, Mick Delahunty, Johnny Morrissy all buzzing around Clúain Meala
A wonderful gig in the UL concert hall last night….. a great hall for a concert . What a special night for those two young girls , something that will stay with them forever , fair play to you. Loved the Well , with the two bodhrans in full flow , the songs are always evolving too I see with Tuam Beat getting a small update and the songs from Lily forming a little mini-set showing how strong the latest CD is. Always love to hear the crowd join in the Colonial Boy during Encore and Fairytale was a perfect finale. Looking forward to tonight now…..think we are in the upper stands …..
Christy's reply
Sure thing Marty….what a great room that is in University Limerick….it seldom happens that communities feel so connected to Campus venues….it only happens when the ethos of the University is inclusive and outreaching….the feeling in that room last night would indicate that the people of Limerick feel very welcome in UL..fair play to all concerned…most of all to Chuck Feeney..
special too have Michéal Ó Súilleabháin in the room…he has been at the centre of the world renowned Music College at UL until his retirement retirement…I hear he is gonna be doing gigs with Liam O’Flynn, Neil Martin and Paddy Glackin..that has the sounding of a mighty quartet..there’ll be skin and hair flying
Getting back to last night..it was a joyful 2 hours in the best of company…having those youngsters listening to the songs made it very special…keeps us auld troubadours on our toes, new listeners coming along to join with listeners who’ve been gathering over the decades….
Lets hope we can all travel on a few more miles together
yours is a welcome post Marty, first visitor in 3 days….them facebooking twitterers have abandoned ship
