Hey Christy.
I have to say you sounded marvelous on the Late Late on Friday, and you seem to have a renewed passion for the songs. You seem to have lost about ten years off you itself in the last two years so what ever you’re doing keep doing it.
You have always said that Little Musgrave is your favorite song. I have been following the songs into some god forsaken kips around the world for the last thirty five years and you always sang The Cliffs of Doneen with the greatest passion. You offered to sing it again on Friday as your final song even when other requests were throw at you. Is the Cliffs secretly your favorite song or are you just danderin in your auld age?
Christy's reply
The Cliffs has never been a constant in the set…it only comes out when the wind is blowing from The West…played it the other night for one reason…It was the first song I ever sang on LLS back in 1972….that said I do find myself “danderin” more with each passing decade but I’m not totally gaga yet !! I have never “always said “such a thing about Musgrave…it certainly has been in my top 5 or top 10 depending on when….. But Lord Baker has been my Number One for manys the year…maybe you are getting your Lords mixed up..understandable in that neck of the woods
Glad you noticed the “10 years off” as it has been a costly business..the Lipo, the Botox, the augmentation, the moob reduction, the Colonics, between the lot of them plus the stylists and wardrobe assistants ( takes 4 of them to tighten me corsets) the feckin arse is worn off me from all the prep that goes into a gig…I long for the days when I could pull into the El Ruedo or Sean Fureys with just my guitar, songs and thirst to get me thru the night
have you got the words of “The Carlow Fifteen” by any chance..how about “The Ridge and Coolcullen Brigade” ??
Picked up Lily Saturday evening, spent yesterday driving around listening to her…what a brilliant collection of songs…at first listen the favourites come through, but then on third and fourth listens, they all become as strong as each other. The Kildare song is top of the heap this morning, followed closely by Lightening, Bird, wind, river man…but The Gardener is closing in…but we all know the fav will change from listen to listen….I love it and thanks for this this great set of songs…and to all the band, musicians, producers etc…a labour of love is right…it’s a humdinger CM (71)

Lily came in yesterday and it’s a beautiful album. Fair play! Well done!
So after listening to it, I gave my children Myrthe (23) and Jelle (21) a call if they were interested in going over for a couple of days to a place called Bantry. And they were!
So, on the 15th of July you’ll have some listeners in the audience from Amsterdam & Rotterdam enjoying the old and the new songs! See you in Bantry! John
Christy's reply
see you in Bantry John…you have picked a good spot to visit

Hi Christy,
Just finished reading Joseph O’Connor’s feature ( a letter to Bob Dylan @75)…superbly summing up what Bob means to devotees.(The Irish Times weekender).
I’m gradually absorbing ‘Lily’ and picking up its rhythm. The track order is excellent and now I find myself regularly returning to ‘Lightning,Bird…’ and ‘Laurel…..’.Great to have these tracks back to back. The trad outfit make the former fly, then contrast with the subtlety of ‘Laurel’,plus Declan’s tasty slide on it.Vocally, you have it nailed…I find trad songs especially powerful. For me,’Laurel’ is a perfect companeo for ‘Lord Baker’,’Little Musgrave’,’Bogie’s Bonnie Bell’ et al.Its a wonderful song to find and the tune is perfect.’Haunting’,in fact…
Hey Christy, will you get yourself over to the Isle of Man for a gig!!! Saw you solo in Plymouth Devon, but that was a long long time ago. ‘Lily’ is just beautiful and ‘Journey’ very insightful. Always listening to the songs and would be fantastic to hear them live again. They would love you over here. You’d certainly get an ‘Encore’.
Thanks for reading Christy
Take care

Oh and is this the closest I’ll get to hearing you live I wonder? I never took advantage when I had the chance many years ago…..to my lasting regret? Remains to be seen. I’ll remind you, you have plenty of admirers over here ( maybe a few more since the traffic incident)
Me Mum informed me you were on the late show so I swiftly got it on my phone. As you streamed to me live as I was stuck in traffic on the BQE heading to Brooklyn. I couldn’t help but notice his efforts at trying to get a good whine and rant out of you , a sound bite or something that might go viral. I was very relieved and impressed at how you dealt with it Christy. “Let the music reign”. Anyway I loved the new songs. Btw I put the volume at max so the ballix who cut me off could hear ya aswell ??

Great show last night Christy. I just want to send on my great great thanks to you in February you did a show in Glor and you called out my son Sean who is 9 and learning the guitar he grew 10 feet taller after that night and hasnt put down the guitar after seeing you play . You have inspired him in an amazing way . Keep up the super work we see you again soon
Hi Christy, Lily arrived in the post yesterday morning, she never left the CD player all day. Then to discover you were guesting on the Late Late really made my day.
Brilliant cd and a terrific performance with Ryan. What would be a real bonus would be a dvd with Declan, Jimmy and Martin’s band. I remember the night in the opera house with Martin and co. terrific.
Really enjoyed the chat last night on the Late Late… from flowing locks to hairy chests, it’s been quite the journey! Looking forward to adding Lily to the collection. Thanks xx
Great effort last night on the Late Late Christy. You have done us proud again. Have to check up on the 4 verses now.

Played Lily all day yesterday. Different from your earlier work. More personal, as if that were possible. The sound crew captured the Presence of the songs. Feels like you are right here, almost afraid to breath, as each new song takes our breath away.
Great to feel your fighting spirit still as fresh as ever. Telling it as it is – Oblivious. Sharing the marriage of music and Mother Earth within your good heart – Mandolin Mountain. Personal stories painted in harmony within lyrics – Patrick Murphy.
Grounded – The Gardener……..
Memories of Tintán quality Newbridge carpets woven from African sisal rope; more hard wearing than wool; warmer than Lino. And that captured in just two lines of Lily……
Then the LLS.
A lovely well rounded piece of fireplace session. Anecdotal tales of white-flour bags (from Leinster Mills? – My own mother, rest her soul, made our pillow cases and sheets from them).
Then you flew off West and brought us with you to the Cliffs of Dooneen.
All that and more in just one yesterday. Thank you, Master.
I must arise now and wonder what new beginnings today has in store? Daylight is peeping through my sun blinds and I commit to living as the Dali Lama teaches – Live one day at a time, and make it a Masterpiece!
Now, where’s me Rosary Beads and Sandwiches?……..

Hi Christy,
I agree with Lar, about the buzz of leaving a record shop with new LPs by favourite artists.Yesterday,I had the reassuring feel of carrying Dylan’s new vinyl, with Lily nestled into the bag beside it.Both albums have similarities.Thoughtful interpretations, empathetic arrangements ,tasteful vocals/musicianship and beautiful production.
Lily is a brilliant indication of where you’ve reached on the journey,so far.Planxtyesque touches are a treat from the trad lads,Declan’s fills as tasteful as ever.Early personal favourites are the title track and Green Grows The Laurel – a wonderful version.
At first glance ,the block ,black letters on the cover were unsettling, but their solidity, somehow seems an interesting contrast to the imagery conjured up by the title. Also, being very taken by the inner sleeve illustration,I checked out some online images of Brian Maguire’s work.Very glad I did as well -fascinating and thought provoking.I know you give a lot of thought to the whole ‘package’.On Lily,it shows, and its a fantastic piece of work, well fulfilled.
Thanks for a fine addition to my CD collection.Bob’s LP is settling in nicely, too.
Have a good day,
Dave

Glad you tuned into the Painting of Brian Maguire..his work is vital…he is gaining recognition of late..he is a good friend His painting of Rachel Corrie “Death of an American Hero” was iluustrated on my Burning Times album..he also slapped down some green paint for the sleeve of “Traveller”
In the door and RTE on Player before bed. What a lovely relaxed, entertaining and insightful glimpse into you and your thoughts combined with song. Could easily have been a 2 hour CM show and I think Ryan would have loved that himself. Thank You Mister x
Hi Christy.
Really enjoyed you on Late late show tonight.
I can’t wait to get copy of the album.
I really enjoyed the song about Newbridge. My father is from Newbridge and was a barman in Cummins years ago it brings back good memories. Best luck with new album and hope to see you again this year if you are playing in kildare.
All the best Christy.
