Christy,Birthday wishes from the Lake County.Heartfelt thanks for all the years of joy, and warmth you have given to us the Listeners.
” I’ve played every Lounge in Ireland from Dingle right up to Donegal,
I’ve sung Nancy Spain on stages where no other ballad singers played at all,
From the Rising Sun in Brownstown,to the Blue Lagoon by the river in Sligo Town,
Ballymurphy and the Bogside, Ballinamore and once in Ballinasloe……
If I get an encore I go home feeling like a King. ”

Many happy returns of the day for tomorrow Christy. I hope you have a wonderful day on such a landmark birthday. My husband and I are coming to see you in Basingstoke on the 13th, and we’re really looking forward to that. We’ve just returned from a long weekend in Kenmare to celebrate Eamonn’s 60th, so it seems to be big birthdays all round! As ever also, many thanks for the music which really helped spark my interest in folk music some five or so years ago as a relative newcomer to the genre, and which has given me such pleasure since then.
Best wishes.
Sue
I just found this site, and thought I’d stop and comment for a couple of reasons.
Firstly, I’m 19, and I’m currently rediscovering your music through technology (I.e. tonnes of YouTube videos) – music I might not have heard, save trawling through mum’s old collections. (So I’m glad you don’t do what big labels do and shut down independent uploaders.)
Which brings me onto the other reason! My mum literally shrieked in excitement when she heard you were playing Bristol (where we live) on her birthday! (10th) She’ll be 64, and so 1: she doesn’t often shriek, 2: she’s been a fan for a while! So much so that she named me after you! When people ask me why I’m a guy called Christy, I just shrug and tell ’em “it’s Irish” 😛
Can’t wait to see you next week! And I can guarantee ol’ Linda will be in tears the whole night! 😛

Bristol, here we come…I look forward to hearing Linda shriek
“Everybody needs a break,
Climb a mountain or jump in a lake.
Sean Doherty goes to the Rose of Tralee,
Oliver J. Flanagan goes swimming in the Holy Sea.
But I like the music and the open air,
So every Summer I go to Clare.
Coz Woodstock, Knock nor the Feast of Cana,
Can hold a match to Lisdoonvarna…”
I go to Lisdoonvarna often, Christy,
I can go anytime…
Thanks for all you’ve worked to share.
You remain an inspiration.
Happy 70th Birthday wishes

I’ll burn a candle for you Thursday.
Absolutely love watching the video of ‘Live at Vicar Street’
The Musgrave tune is such a pleasure to me, and I’ve long since lost track of how many times I’ve played Liam’s ‘Dark Slender Boy’.
I’m coming late to Planxty, but I simply had to sign in and express my thanks to you and the (many)lads for your wonderful contribution to the world of music.
May God truly bless you and your continued music-making!
Peace,

Me again.
Just clocked the post yesterday from J1983 about a spare ticket at Warwick. Can’t be quite certain yet because I would need the afternoon off and some night cover but am interested. Is there a way of contacting this person other than on this forum.

Bus Airin’
Well there’s been five years of
travel
That he could have had for free
With guitar in hand he’s welcome to most every jamboree
He’d take you down contentious roads
Of injustice and despair
And take you high on rocky slopes
Fine sights he’d show you there.
I’ve travelled Ireland far and wide
I’ve even seen south Tipp
And Galway and Roscommon
On that self same wayward trip
But one sight I’ve never witnessed
It would prob’ly cause a fuss
Is Christy singin’ Raglan Road
While sittin on a bus.
I understand the travel’s free
If you live North or Sout’
As long as you’ve hit sixty five
And you can get about
You can take the bus and journey
Parnell Place to Malin Head
Or if you don’t like traffic
You can take the train instead.
But I guess he’s windin down now
He’s near three score and ten
Tho’ he might just be aroun’ to see a nation once again
If he cuts back on the tourin’
And the money’s gettin’ tight
Public transport is the answer
It run’s both day and night.
So if you witness an oul fella
Sittin on a bus
With a happy band of passengers
Don’t you make a fuss
A sight as rare as
Christy
On a double decker’s fine
But you’ll never get a seat again
It’ll be a bloody shrine!!
Happy Birthday Christy and wishing you many more!
you’re rapid out of the traps there KiWi..thanks for the Birthday verse..fair play to you
