Christy Do you remember the night back in the late 1980’s the night you played in Moran’s Tavern (Tom Moran of Red Cow, Playwright etc), Carrigkerry, Co Limerick you said “that it was the first time playing on top of a mountain”. (The tavern burned down in later years and the pub & shop/Post Office are now long gone) Here is the FREE Postal Code (The FREE Postal Code that the government wont take for some unknown reason) for that very spot QWD-49-FR9 in the website http://www.myloc8ion.com/maps/find_code8 (Google Chrome best results)

Hi Christy,
I’m so glad to have taking part in songwriter showcase. The song I entered in was my land. While I was upset at first as you would be. I really enjoyed the process. And for you to take the time to listen to all them songs is amazing. The song forgotten sons was one of the songs I had on reply myself. Brilliant song , really hits home. Thanks Christy. Sean 🙂
Christy's reply
It was a difficult and responsible task but one that I enjoyed..I would never undertake to do it singlehandedly again…I hope all the songsters will continue to create…great credit too to Tony Lawless who initiated the concept and brought it all together….I look forward to meeting The Jeremiahs and Trad Connect
Raining in Oldham, shock, horror.
Your memory of the game back in 1962 made me chuckle. Not just because it was the year I was born. Reminded me of a game I went to a few years ago at Lansdowne Road watching Ireland duly outclassed by New Zealand. We had met friends far to early at Scruffy Murphy’s pub and by the time the match kicked off I couldn’t focus enough to see whether I was watching from the side or behind the goals. I’ll let you know how the weekend pans out. Someone recommended a visit to the Cobblestone Pub on King St, ever heard of it.
P.S. I love a sad song and all it’s mesmeric. Part of what makes us Irish is our abiding sense of tragedy which sustains us through temporary periods of joy.
Frankie
Christy's reply
The Cobblestone is renowned for music…it is adjacent to a very fine Art House Cinema,The Lighthouse ( not a likely destination on an International Rugby Weekend) I used to know another Frank Byrne, he was from my hometown…he played Rugby for Ireland, got a few caps on the wing where he was a flier
Christy,
Just got your ” Where I come from Album”
Christy I can hear you loud and clear. I am so thankful for that.
I’ll be a little critical here now. I can handle a lament.
What I absolutely love about Irish Traditional music is that it can go from a joyous jig to a lament.
I am so happy to have this album. And all of the stories incased.
But, ok, for the record ,yeah, I haven’t heard all the songs yet.. And I am looking forward to hearing them all Christy. And I absolutely love your sharing. your telling in text, the historical background behind them. I am glad to have gotten hold of these favorites of yours. I have them now on my computer and I feel very lucky to have them.
But, I bailed after listening for awhile because they all were sad, all sad ! They were all a dry drunk sad,
Sorry Christy, you’re a bit of a sad preacher now.

Christy's reply
will see about The Flicker…dont do it often these days but I still love the song..lets see if the Daddy Longlegs will come out to play…the photo after the show is a bit tricky….normally its straight into the Oxygen tent followed by blood transfusion, then when debriefed its upwards into some meditation and shiatsu followed by Reiki and Rogan Josh…by the time the make up is removed and I’m prised outa the corset the audience will have scattered in every direction….then its a swift deckit of the Joyful Mysteries before slipping into the arms of Morpheus…round we go heel to the toe
Afternoon there Christy
I hope you don’t mind me sharing this little verse I wrote of my current plight.
There was great crowds to be seen
In two thousand and fifteen
When the first day of spring came toward us
Seemed nothing we lacked
With the cases all packed
Till the ill wind of fate blew right through us
I can’t blame the man
Who said that he can
Get al of the seats we require
It’s the fecking arsehole, who dampened my soul
When he said the price is now a little bit higher.
200 Euros for the match on Sunday. No chance. I have my flights and Hotel booked so will have to support the Men in Green from a bar somewhere.
Enjoy the match if you’re going.

thats tough Frankie….Back in 1962 I travelled by train to Dublin to go see Ireland v England at Lansdowne Road. I had my schoolboy ticket and £3 to spend. I met up with my pal Pat McGowan who was in his first year at University. We went into the “College Mooney” for one drink and that was the end of the match. But jasus Frankie we had unmerciful crack.I missed the last train as well as the game. And if I had to do it all over again this coming Sunday, the result would be the same (except I’d stay off the Rum& Black)…..just had a call from Jo Schmidt, hes asked me to be there at 3 on Sunday and to bring my boots
Hey Christy, Declan and Jimmy,
Thanks for a magical night in Mullingar on Friday. Myself and my better half Debbie love your shows in Mullingar park as it’s the hotel we married in 10years ago. As you probably often hear from couples “The Voyage” is a song very close to our hearts and it absolutely completed a wonderful night. Hope to see ye in kilronan next month. Thanks again.

Hello Christy,
Just watched the programme on TG4 player from last night in Cork Opera House. Thanks for pointing Gradam Ceol out. I’m delighted your Companero Máirtín O’Connor was presented with the Award – well deserved! He’s such an outstanding musician and a real gentle man too. It would be great if you’d pass on my Congrats to him when you’re meeting up in sweet Mayo in a couple of days.
Hope spring is in the air soon.

I believe that some of The Trad Outfit read our comments here so your words will be delivered. Yesterday we had wind rain snow and sunshine simultaneously. Did a long interview with the singer Iarla ó Lionard yesterday. We spoke for hours about singing, singers and songs. It was a most interesting interlude. Its for a series on singing currently being broadcast on Lyric FM. Heard a very good talk that Iarla had with Peter Gabriel which was transmitted at Christmas time.
Thank you so much for the fabulous gig in Mullingar – Stuart and I made our annual pilgrimage and you sang Two Island Swans – a song which means so much to both of us. The audience were in great voice as well and Declan’s guitar was magic! Hope you enjoy his book – a tale of an ordinary man in troubled times. Look after yourself!
Christy's reply
fair play to you and Stuart for making the trip and for the book which I will read in due course. Only on the way home did I realize that I got my Lough Ennel and Lough Owel mixed up when introducing your song ! Greetings to all love birds, linnets and songsters across the water where Riffkind & Straw appear to be getting a roasting.
