Thirty years today since our warrior woman was taken from us. Her legacy still walks beside us, and it always will.
With a bit of luck we might hear Veronica by the Lee tomorrow. The training is done now, Christy — as you set off, just loosen the shoulders, settle the breath, and get ready to let it fly. By the time you walk on stage, we’ll already know two of the football semi‑finalists.

to see that Veronica is remembered here today fulfils the very purpose of this guest page…..I set it up as a means of communication….in far off days I’d meet thirsty listeners at after gig lock-ins..there would be occasional good chats but inevitably it would descend in drunken rawmaishing….today I appreciate the comments, information, feedback, suggestions that flow here….I’m not that bothered about big click numbers , more interested in the conversations that develop, albeit briefly….many earlier contributors have flown away to different platforms..and fair play to them…I remain happily anchored here…( that said, our back up team do post info elsewhere)
I asked you here some time ago if you might make it back to Great Britain in the near future so that we might see hear you sing live again (I think I’ve had the pleasure in Llandudno, Rhyl, Liverpool Manchester, Glastonbury) but it didn’t sound like it was on the cards, so my girlfriend and I have made it over to Ireland to watch you play tomorrow in Cork. It is Anna’s first time here despite being a Murphy, her father was born in Dublin in the 30s and landed in London some time afterwards, he passed in 2022 but we feel him here on this trip.
We discussed over dinner last night what we’d love to hear you play and the list was endless, please play whatever comes to you! This message might not reach you by showtime but just in case, if any of these feel right on the night we would love them; Magic Nights, Butterfly, Beeswing.

I’ve opened every gig in recent years with my brothers song “City of Chicago”..Its an ideal opener, everyone knows the song and everyone sings it with me….perfect start to a gig ….

Meself and Olivia met up last weekend with Marylne before she headed for Santiago Bay via Paris. It was a real joy to sit and remenise about past visits and gigs and fellow fans…walks on Dun Laoghaire pier, stays in Williamstown, meetin yer from Aerosmith in the airport and of course the Armagh gig…and lots more. Lets hope it wont be nine years before the next visit..it was a lovely couple of hours…L x

After a few weeks of mulling things over,today I replaced a long serving,knackered,record deck.
Managed to avoid melting on trams and working out vague set up instructions…hallelujah…the debut LP was ‘Iron behind the velvet’.. chosen for the choice of songs and subtle,intricate arrangements…what a fab album.it contains a song that resonates with imagery and reminds me of seeing you in the 70s…ironic too,on a day that’s as hot as hell…Ian Campbell’s ‘ The sun is burning’…a gem in every way

its getting on for 50 years since we recorded that album
twas another very sunny Summertime when we gathered on the Castlecomer Plateau to rehearse and play these songs….
I think we played a bunch of gigs to knock the edges off the arrangements..
its all a bit hazy, a lot of good weed grew up there… the chillum glowed frequently, Sheerin’s Ridge Bar was close by…flagons of Bulmers plentiful…..
some good songs on that album, Joe McCann, Morrissey & The Russian Sailor and Dunlavin Green come to mind…..
none but “JOHN ‘O DREAMS” have survived onto recent set lists ..
It was a good project….it ages well

May we all be captured by the late Johnny Duhan’s beautiful song
Greetings from Sunny Spain Christy, although I’ve heard that it’s also sunny on the Island! I’ve gone back to the well on “Spancil Hill” courtesy of Nicholas O’Carolan and a recording of a man from that neighbourhood. I transcribed the original version and have learned it off. It’s not the radio friendly version, being over 5 minutes in length and 10 verses. For years I’ve been singing the well known version including the two verses that are on your Prosperous album. As you know, the song was written and sent back to Ireland by a young Mike Considine who tragically died shortly afterwards. (The name Johnny seems to have crept in to the song for some reason). Anyway I thought I’d share that with you. May I say, in closing that, as a man who will be getting his bus pass next month, yourself, Andy Irvine, Donal Lunny, Paul McCartney and The Rolling Stones continue to inspire me onwards Best regards, Brendan McGrath , formerly of Carlow town.

a club run by a Dublin singer called Billy
those times ,like you, my heart was back in Kildare..

I had another great trip to the Emerald isle with the highlight on Thursday night in Armagh. It was again a superb gig of yours and so much fun to attend. Very young and older people sang along to your impressive voice. You, your whole team and Hilary again took care of us all and fulfilled every wish. Thank you all so much!!! I’ll have a smile in my face for quite a while now and hope for another gig to attend, whenever that may be, hopefully in autumn.
There was a little singalong afterwards in the lounge, another example how music connects people from all over the world.
Now it’s back to work for me, but as I said: with a broad smile.
